irrespective of whether this would be the reason for the error... I definitly think it is better to back up that music library and upgrade to SS3.1: more stability (for most users at least) and more options but like I said, it's only my opinion and I have absolutely no clue whether this has anything to do with the error

I've just recently picked up a pair of MX350s as I didn't have any small 'phones (except for the stock'buds) yet (only my bigger HD497 sennheiser for home listening) and they were only €9.90 they still need a bit more burn-in, but after a very flat sounding first 20odd hours, they start to show a lot more trebbles and (?!?) quite some bass (even thinking of eq'ing them down a bit!!)... For the very low price these things come by: "not bad at all" and definitely a (big) step up fom the stockrubble provided by Sony. So for anyone who comes by these or the MX450s at a low price... just get 'em! Even if they won't be your all-time favorites (and I presume they won't), they will always be better than the stock'buds!

Either you rip the cd in some audio program that allows PCM (don't think SS does either) and import the files in SS. Go to 'Tools/options/transfer' select 'Hi-MD' as the device and press 'transfer settings'. Here you can select the first check-box: 'standard transfer mode' which transfers files 'as they are, without conversion'. To be extra sure, you can also click 'advanced settings' and check the 'ask me every time'-box with the 'what to do if a file can't be transferred as is' question... so no unexpected/unnoticed conversion will take place at all. Or you download SimpleBurner 2.0 with PCM mode from the MDCF-downloads and just flick in your cd, press 'config' (on top right) and select Hi-MD/PCM for bitrate to encode in and just press 'transfer'! Don't know about you, but the SB-way looks a bit easier/faster and you don't even have to screw your SS settings up, but just as a tip I included the location to change these setting (especially for you Stampy )

huray! but actually I would say... just keep up the good work! by far the most pleasant, usefull and wellmanaged (almost no spammers and very little flaming!!) forum I've come across. (and no, I don't need a favor of kurisu, this is a sincere thumbs up)

Upgrading From Ss3.1 (asia) To Ss3.1 (mdcf)
The Low Volta replied to The Low Volta's topic in Software
ok, easier for me, don't use mp3 as I'm still 1st gen... but still... big thumbs up for the effort by Daijoubu and I for one am eagerly awaiting the customized MDCF SonicStage... plus, I hope that when Sony finds out about this, they won't be bumholes and complain about infringing on rights and stuff, but that they finally realize that there is still a sizeable community out there that cares about their minidiscs AND the sotfware that accompanies it (please release the copyrights on our own recordings! pretty please ) -
brilliant, good work Daijoubu, that shows Sony that a little brains and brawn CAN construct an answer to MD-users' wishes just one question: exactly what bugs are fixed? Is there any reason to reinstall SS3.1 using this installer if one currently has SS3.1 (asia/pacific version) installed? I'd rather do a little effort now than regret it later when one of those bugs hit my fan...
-
been using the same method with my NH900 and haven't seen the batt indicator budge even one stripe even when having it on rec/pause for quite a long time (almost 3/4 of an hour), nor seen the player shut off... so think this probably the best way to circumvent the 'no backlight'-recording-handicap of this otherwise pretty little machine and at least seems safer to me (and probably a lot of techno-illiterates like me)
-
just a little tip: you can enable 'e-mail notification' at any time in a thread by pressing the 'options' button at the bottom of the page and then selecting e-mail notification (no need to double post if you forgot to check it the first time)
-
quite a strange combination at the moment but all excellent: - tool: Lateralus - explosions in the sky: the earth is not a cold dead place - Arvo Pärt: Alina
-
just to rule out the player, you could try recording something on another (1gig) disc (with the same settings: PCM,...) and uploading it... I know this won't cure anything, but it's easier to help when one knows where exactly the problem occurs. good luck, and I help you hope it's not your player that's acting up
-
works fine for me! just the fact that it only has a loop to attach it to your belt... makes me look kinda stupid when taking it (and half of my belt) off in public could be usefull to check the other caselogic MD-case if it has this same problem, 'cause for the rest it looks almost equally ok
-
Thanks, and sorry for not using the obvious 'search engine' option, but I just vaguely remembered the ancient topic, and when I couldn't find it, reposted... MDCF is just too good at answering questions!! I don't even think of any other (obvious) options anymore...
-
I was looking for the little program that puts your gmail account on your desktop as an external drive... but the topic ('Gmail=personal File Server' I think it was) seems to have been lost in the great MDCF-crash of early April . So if anyone knows what I'm talking about... please (re)post this info as it would come in very handy... Tanx

and you could even upgrade to 3.1 now http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=9586 enjoy your MD-experience!
-
ok, but just to avoid any problems: the 1st gen Hi-MD recorders (MZ-NHxxx) CAN record in SP and this will have backward compatibility the 2nd gen Hi-MD recorders (MZ-RHxxx) CAN'T record in SP, they can create SP-MD's through SS or SB downloads If you need compatible RECORDINGS, a 1st gen would be easier, with a 2nd gen machine you could always record in a Hi-MD format (Hi-sp/lp or PCM), download to SS (in wav) recode to SP and upload to a MD formatted 80min disc to provide you with backwards compatible recordings but this takes a lot more steps...

I recorded a show in Belgium (actually the recording ended up real bad, but that's completely beside the point ) but I was frisked on entry and I hadn't really tried to hide my material... the security guy asks what this 'thingy' is, I tell him 'my walkman' (not lying at all) he asks if he can see it, holds it right up to his face, the rec button is simply staring at him... he says, ok, it's not a camera!?! and I could pass just to say, don't buy the camera-himd combo if you want to go stealth! btw, what actually happens on detection? anyone ever lost their equipment or anything?
-
for on the road listening use, I have the Case Logic MDC-2 it's ok, but only has got a loop (no clip) to slide it over your belt; makes you look rediculous if you want to take it off (have to unbuckle your belt)... and forget about 3md's in the front pouch, like their site says! I couldn't even get one in... I use it to carry an extra batt (or AA-addon with my nh900) when I'm out recording interviews and stuff, I've got my heavy duty, big enough to carry all equipment Lowepro D-RES 10AW (actually a digit camera bag, but very protective/soft and with a lot of nice subdivisions and ample space for a small mic, extra batt, two or three md's,...) and it's highly durable even has a rain hood thingy (this is the one that goes with me on snowboardingtrips!!

thanks for the reactions guys, yes, those Soundman mics sure look good, but a bit too expensive I'm afraid and I would still have to import (they're still looking for a Belgian distributor, now there's an option ) ... I've mailed the Belgian customs (again) for some info, but even if they won't answer (also AGAIN) it still looks like I'm going for the SoundPro stuff in the end (even with import taxes, I'll probably won't do that bad a deal, as the dollar is very cheap here at the moment) so thanks again and see you on MDCF

I stand (partially) corrected... a day in which we've learned something is a day well spent!
-
as far as I remember, feel free to correct me Dex , md-data (and music) is kept in blocks spread over the disc. So the laser wouldn't be jumping around more when playing in shuffle than in normal... ok, it's nitpicking , I agree, but there's no need to let a mistake spread
-
and a happy from me too! I'd send you both a box of Belgian chocolats, but shipping and import taxes would make that a very expensive present but still, have a nice celebration and I hope there's many more to come
-
hi all, I've been recording interviews and lectures aplenty with my nh900 and my sony mono mic... but now I feel it's time to move on to concert recording! I've read a lot of good things about the SP-BMC-2 stereo mics, especially in combination with a battery box and I'm really tempted to buy 'em... but alas I live in Belgium and reckon the SP-BMC-2 mic/ SP-SPSB-6 battery box with bass roll-off will cost me about $173,62 with shipping and taxes (I'm not really sure about the taxes though, could be a little bit less)... My question to you all, would this still be a decent price? And especially to all the EU-members of MDCF or MDcenter.nl..., do any of you guys now of ( r)etailers with similar products within the EU, so I wouldn't have to pay inport taxes? thanks P.S.: to kurisu (and all other mods)... I'm sorry for kinda doubleposting (I DID rewrite it though ) but it's quite an urgent question and I haven't had an answer yet

Is There A Problem On Using Huge Earphones ?
The Low Volta replied to necrotoxico's topic in 'phones
ah, 'cause "at home" is a relative expression (at least in my case): I (officially) live with my parents in Hasselt (Belgium), occasionally I stay at my girlfriend's parents (Beringen/Belgium, but actually all cities I'm going to mention are in Belgium ), I study in Brussels and I've lived and studied in Ghent for six years and still have/visit a lot of friends over there and finally my girlfriend has a house in Antwerp which isn't completely finished yet, but we already camp out there from time to time... add to this that I have well over 400 cd's... and you see why it's easier for me to put 'em on MD, and just carry my little machine, a number of md's and my big 'phones around for a nice audio-experience (I could use the line-out and let everyone enjoy the sound, but my girlfriend doesn't really agree on my music taste ) just to show that context can determine meaning: my 'home' = 'portable' -
yep, with the original battery, that was kind of the duration I could get, but I wanted a bit extra, so I invested in a new battery (and dug up some older but ok rechargable AA's for the addon...) so now I'm ready to tackle some concerts, at least if I get my other problem ( http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=9546&hl= )solved I don't want to double post (even in different forums), so for an update on my GP stick performance... see http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=9523&hl=

I bought a GP 1450mAh gumstick battery for my nh900 yesterday and started priming (charge full, play with big phones and permanent backlight till depleted; repeat): first charge didn't stick at all, took off the ac-cable and indicator went down immediately; second charge (took a lot longer to charge) lasted a 'bit' longer... batt-indicator dropped from full to almost-empty-and-flashing within 1 hour... but then it continued... and continued...and continued... at 6pm (local time) last evening the indicator started to blink, it played straight till 2am, then I switched it off as I went to bed and wanted to monitor the battery perfomance, put it back on at 9am this morning and now (11.30 am) it's still going strong...although with a blinking indicator! so it's been playing for 10.5 hours now with a blinking indicator... [edit] still running at 1.15pm (i.e. 12+ hours on a blinking indicator) [/edit] [edit2] my player has just stopped, at 2.30pm, so after 13.5 hours with blinking indicator and in total more than 14.5 hours of playing with backlight on... this could really be a nice buy!! [/edit2] either my indicator can't handle 1450mAh batteries very well or this batt will really rock once it's been decently primed actually think it will be the first option, but quietly hoping it's the second!
