With that sort of budget I would go for the Sennheiser CX300's. A much better sound than the EX71's & EX81's.

I thought the A8xx range was expensive and offered all the above? At £200GBP for the 8 gig when it first came out, it's not cheap.

I have tried the ipod on a few occasions and didn't like the feel of the scroll wheel. I have also heard stories about the volume getting turned up and down while in peoples pockets. I also like a few buttons on my gadgets.

Better sq, build quality and get rid of that damn scroll wheel, I would maybe consider.

I was wondering why I was seeing a lot of the S7xx's on the London Underground, everyone's been picking them up cheap. I have the same music on both players. I am far too lazy to use one for one genre and the other for a another genre. I listen to mainly House and dance music anyway.

Now I don't think we should jump to conclusions just yet, Argos have simply stopped stocking it. It would make sense though, as it has been around since before Christmas of last year. It has also dropped in price considerably. They will probably bring out another noise cancelling NW-S walkman to replace it. That's just my opinion anyway

I would say the S7xx has been around for about 9 or 10 months now. That's pretty good compared with the HD5, I don't even think it lasted 6 months.

I noticed them on the Argos web site. However, they no longer stock the NW-S7xx range. No doubt this amazing player will be discontinued very soon. This sort of player I would buy for my 10 year old son. I guess it's aimed at the younger user or one who just wants simplicity.

These are now selling in the UK for:- 1 gig-£34.99 & 2 gig-£44.99.

The last version of Sonic Stage, 4.3, was released with the NW-A8xx series about 3 or 4 months ago. As for it being dead, who knows. Only time will tell.

Congratulations on re-purchasing the S706. Out of all my Sony dap's, the sound signature of the S706 is the one which I prefer.

Your welcome! Yes, the A1000/A1200/A3000 have the Line out feature, and the volume will greatly improve once the hack is applied.

I find it fine, although I prefer the line out on my A1200. The line out on the HD5, if you forget to turn it off and put your headphones on your in for an unpleasant surprise. The A1200 on the other hand would be silent if you forget to turn the line out off.

This is true. My A1200 is slower at responding than my HD5.

No, the restriction on the volume won't effect your line out as it will be your amp providing the volume. The volume control on the HD5 will not work once in line out mode. You can apply the volume hack, the instuctions to which can be found on this site.
