All of the HD series, HD1/3/5

Unfortunately not. The headphone jack has a small sensor attacched to it, which will only work with the S7xx series of players. As far as i know there is no way around this.

Must be a good company to work for? My employers have put so many restrictions on our pc's, there is no way I could install Sonic Stage and get away with it. Our work pc's have 10 gig hard drives, so up to 8 gigs of music would be way out of the question. A drag & drop dap is your best bet on a work pc.

When I first got my A806 3 weeks ago, I wasn't too impressed by the sound compared to my S706. I think it was the supplied phones that let it down. Now I have been using the player day in day out since I bought it and using the supplied phones, and I think the phones have now some what burnt in and have growen on me. They're not the best phones I've listened to, but they're not too bad. However, they offer no noise isolation what so ever. I do agree, the sound of the A806 is cold compared with the S706's sound which is warm & full. However, the A806 is more detailed. I used the S706 this morning on my daily commute and can now say I prefer the sound of the A806.

Lonely & sad with only Atraclife as a freind???............mmmm sounds like me!!!

If you are looking to upgrade your phones, I would recommend the Sennheiser PX100-(on ear head band type) or the Sennheiser CX300-(in ear type). Both affordable good quality phones.
-
Yes, the supplied phones that come with that unit are quite good. Are you happy with the output now?

I have carried out this procedure on both an A1000 and an A1200 with great success. The volume on both was greatly improved. It sounds as if you are doing it properly as you say the SP setting goes from "on" to "off". Im afraid I have no other suggestions. Are you using the stock buds, if not what are you using? With the volume set at 30 and using the stock buds, it should blow your ear drums out once you have carried out the procedure.

Hi & welcome to ATRACLife The AVLS has nothing to do with the volume capping. Are you sure you carried out the procedure correctly, as you should notice a difference. The NW-A8xx range does not suffer from the Euro capping.

Early??? It's late afternoon! and no one has said happy birthday yet? Enjoy!

Many happy returns aob9

Thanks for the pictures LuLu. Is the silicone case made by Sony or Proporta? It's just that the Sony Centre's here in the UK charge between £20 & £25 GBP for the silicone case. Proporta only charge £12 GBP (Approx.)

If you are not using Gracenote, what are you using for album art on your NW-A808 & S706?
-
Hi & welcome to ATRACLife. The NW-A3000/A1000/A1200 sound is a little brighter & crisper than the HD5. One advantage the NW-A series has on the HD5 is that it's graphic eq works on both ATRAC and mp3 files, while the HD5's graphic eq doesn't. It does however have bass & treble settings that work on all codecs. I would say the sq is about the same.
-
I have neither adjusted the brightness nor experienced the vaio pocket. However, compared to the S706 the display is readable in sunlight and we have had some pretty good weather here in the UK recently.
-
As long as they can deliver the same calibre of hardware ie. the NW-A8xx range, and increase the capacity as it becomes available ie 16 gig flash etc. I'll be happy.
-
It's readable, your not straining your eyes. I would say it's better than most mobile phones.
-
I own both the S706 and A806, and can confirm the display on the A806 is far more superior to that of the S706 in direct sunlight. The screen on the S7xx range is OLED while on the A8xx range it is LCD. OLED screens are totally useless in direct sunlight.
-
This is also my favourite setting as far as VPT is concerned.
-
Hi & welcome to Atrac Life. Your local Sony Centre should stock them.
-
Yes indeed, as are all Sony headphone plugs and dipped in yoghurt if it takes your fancy

The NW-A8xx does not have the noise cancelling feature, and the supplied phones don't offer passive noise cancellation either. However, I do find the volume loud enough and is not crippled by the notorious volume capping as other European flash players have been in the past. My advice to you is to get yourself some good iem's that do offer excellent passive noise cancellation. Enjoy your NW-A808, it's a good one

I couldn't agree more guys. It's all about the music and the sq. Not about ease of use.
-
I couldn't agree more with the above. Both the S7xx range and A8xx range have excellent seperation and soundstage. The A8xx in my opinion has a more detailed sound signature while the S7xx has a lot more bass. They are both excellent units, though sounding very different to one another.
-
The clear stereo will work with what ever phones you wish to use. In the case of the noise cancellation on the S7xx range you are restricted to that feature by only being able to use the supplied (MDR-NC022) phones.
