  1. Which decks are these remotes for?
  2. You'll have to play the discs on the JE330 and record the output via the input on your sound card. According to the MD Browser, the JE330 has no optical output so your only option is to record via the line level output on the deck and into a comparable line level input (read: NOT microphone input) on your PC sound card. Many folks around here and elsewhere use the freely available recording application "Audacity", just Google it, download it and start recording. You'll have to break the one large recording up into multiple smaller tracks after recording, or you can just import the single large file right into iTunes.
  3. I have also had pretty good luck with these parts. I picked up a half dozen of them when I saw them for $4USD each. They seem to charge well and last nearly a s long as the original. That's not to say that the ones I got are anything like the ones currently available ...
  4. I just checked mine for play in the closed door with a disc present and there is a very, very small amount of play, the door moves ever so slightly, but no reset of the unit.
  5. You keep working on feeding that bug .. ;-)
  6. I have noted very similar behavior with my NH1 which I purchased new in August of 2004. If I recall, it was related to the battery and it's inability to charge in the NH1 itself. If I charged another battery in a DH10P or an RH1 and then transferred that charged battery into the NH1, it seemed to work. I plan to sell my NH1 soon as it is only collecting dust and I want to get a few bucks out of it while I still can.
  7. The disks you are looking at are standard 80 minute MDs. The disks themselves will work in HiMD equipment as well as your MDLP DiscMan. You are correct, a HiMD 1GB disk will not work in your machine. I do not do much live recording personally so I won't be able to advise you regarding a suitable microphone. There are many factors to consider when making live recordings and one of our many other forum members with experience in that area will certainly jump in and offer you some advice! :-)
  8. Those should work perfectly. That is a pretty decent price for a 10 pack as well. Sometimes you can find better prices on eBay or Amazon, be sure to figure the tax and shipping into the equation. Not all disks are created equally as I am sure you know, but those Sony Gold disks are a good quality well built disk. Welcome to the forums!
  9. Sony would have been better off utilizing third party software development resources based in the US or UK to develop the software for the MiniDisc. Rather than rely upon poorly written and difficult to understand/use software created by the Japanese, or even translated from Japanese. We have all muddled through figuring out the oddities of SonicStage over the years, but it never had to be that way. Comparing SonicStage Connect Player to iTunes for example clearly shows a level of understanding of the "Western" target user for the application iTunes whereas SS CP does not have that same polished look/feel, etc. As another example, Sony Corp, which clearly operates in silos with poor communication, has a division which has produced the Vegas/SoundForge/DVD Studio software which is actually written and produced by an American software development company out of Wisconsin. I use all of these applications and I cannot even begin to describe the difference in the quality and usability of the tools created by this division of "Sony". It is too bad Sony did not have the forethought to utilize similar resources to create software for the MiniDisc. I have an iPhone and have a copy of my music library in iTunes, it does have its own set of odd usability issues and proprietary functionality, but it is somewhat more usable. Do I use it more? No, I prefer the sound of my various MD players and use them with SS CP instead. I also often record realtime SP and title with SonicStage. Just to dispel any thought that I am not versed in all platforms being discussed; I have owned and used Various MacBook Pro models since prior to the Intel switch going back to before OSX and I have used Windows since before there was Windows. I am a software developer with 20+ years of experience writing code for so many different platforms I could not even list them all. I personally like Windows the best, particularly since Windows 2000. I currently develop daily on XP for Windows Server and various UNIX platforms and I have two machines at home with W7 which is a change from XP but is very usable. I find, for myself, it is just easier to get many things done in the Windows environment. OSX lacks terribly in the file management department, sorry it is just a fact and as a developer, I can't tolerate fuddling with finding and moving/copying files. Sony definitely missed a great opportunity to fill a need for Mac users and portable recording, had there been usable software for Mac users, they may have had few more customers but as previously mentioned the largest market share of users was and still is running a computer with a Microsoft OS.
  10. You sure are a talented photographer Stuge! I hope someone is paying you for your efforts! :-) Another very nice picture.
  11. I also feel like I left everyone here hanging with regards to reporting back to you all after receiving my unit from the seller on eBay. I have had it for about two weeks now and it is a really nice combo deck. I have it hooked up to my Marantz SR18 via its optical out and it sounds superb. I have used it to make multiple recordings CD -> MD using the high speed dubbing mode and it is awesome to be able to perform a transfer at 4x real-time. Even when I make recordings using my Sony DVP-S9000 -> JA20ES, I typically do a "Set it and forget it" recording, meaning I never listen to the real-time playback whilst recording. This 4x stuff is sweet. I have made LP2 and LP4 recordings which sound really good when played back on the Type-S MD unit. The LP2 mode is especially nice although, I am still partial to straight SP mode for its excellent sound quality. I have used it as my primary CODEC for some time now and perhaps this deck will cause me to include some of the MDLP modes more often. A note to vindicate my friends here and for the advice of others, I was advised that the MXD-D40 would suite my needs just as well. I now understand what was meant, if I do not intend to use the deck to playback a bunch of MDLP mode recordings, the Type-S of the D400 is not necessary. The D40 offers nearly identical features with Type-R which is for the best encoding possible. I probably could have saved a few bucks and had a larger selection to choose from had I listened to the advice of others and included the D40 unit in my search. I snapped a few photos of the deck as I was unpacking it and as I made some test recordings. The unit really is in pristine condition, the original owner really treated this thing with kid gloves. I hate to say that within a year, in my house, it will gather more dust than it was ever exposed to in its numerous years of life prior to my ownership. Well, I was going to post the pics, but it looks like I will need to host them somewhere else and link to them. I haven't the time this morning to do that, I'll try to add them tonight. Thanks to everyone who has helped me in my quest for one of the nicest MD combo Decks Sony ever made!
  12. Yes, I think the need to find one outside of the US will be a bit of an additional challenge. These decks seem to be less common on the used market. I suspect the fact that they have the CD player causes more people to hang on to them even if they lose interest in using the MD side of the deck. It is a desirable unit. I was not patient and found one pretty quickly and snatched it up. But there were a couple of less desirable units on eBay before I found the one I ended up with. I saw the one with the missing knob too, I think the seller is asking way too much for a unit in that condition.
  13. Me too man, what a sad story ... He was awesome. :-/
  14. Kind of like Phil Hartman as "The Caveman Lawyer"? LOL I suspect you are just slightly more advanced than that. ;-)
  15. Of course with 3TB of storage, even FLAC may not be necessary! I wonder if it supports AAL? Somehow I missed the photographs yesterday. Very interesting indeed ...
  16. Both the SA and the SB series seem very full featured with all of the latest and greatest specs. I don't think I could afford an SA series machine, but the SB seems very reasonably priced and still has good specs.
  17. Thanks for the update on the recent outages. I have gotten worried the past few days, I need my MD fix!
  18. Indeed, that is some great info and tutorial. I would love to get my hands on one of those devices just to play around with it! Thank you for sharing.

I looked too and did not even see any of the mentioned variations in nomenclature the OP mentions. Sometimes, non-OEM manufacturers will add additional characters to their model numbers to differentiate their generic product from the original manufacturer's product. I have bought a few different models of "knock-off" Sony WM batteries and very few of them have lasted as long or held as good a charge as the originals did. There are however a several manufacturers who create and sell replacements for the originals, they do not try to copy the exact look, colors, writing of the battery packaging etc. Many on the board have had good experiences with these. My next batch will likely be one of these "replacement" brands rather than the cheap copies. Do a search, I saw a thread in the past month with this very topic.
  20. That's awesome pc. The timer idea is very cool too!
  21. It looks like that's the one he wants then!
  22. This page specifically lists software for your unit: Sony Remotes
  23. Hey paperclip, I don't know if you've seen this site, but you should check it out: Remote Central. I used to frequent the site when I had and used a Philips Pronto remote. You may be able to find the software and drivers you are looking for there, it's a cool community. On another note, I had one of the ancestors of the remote you got, it was not nearly as cool as your model, but still a cool Sony with the large back-lit touch screen, very cool. This was back in the late 1980's maybe 88 or 89! It's amazing that Sony has continued this line and made it so much more useful with USB based programming.
  24. Gently grab it with a pair of tweezers or small needle nose pliers and pull it out. Are the batteries in these units aftermarket replacements? I have a few of those and mine do not fit exactly right, they are a bit large for the space. When I suggest "gently" I mean do not crush the battery and do so at your own risk! I would not suggest prying them out either, no sense putting any undue force on the unit itself ...
  25. I was afraid someone else would snatch it up if I didn't grab it quickly!
