Wow, congratulations, you got $660 for it. Please be sure to let us know how the transaction goes! I hope everything works out perfectly.

I completely agree with Chris, this is excellent advice. I have done some business on eBay as well and there are definitely some scammers out there looking to make a buck in any way they can. I suggest you follow that advice for sure. Amazing that it has risen so high, I have seen two other E10 units in the past year that sold for less than $100, looks like you picked the right time to sell!
-
That is awesome! It is over $400 now. The unit is rare and a prize to own. It is great that you got such a good duration on the playback. I'll have to break mine out and test it like you have done. I would sell it for $400! Maybe I'll post it after yours sells.

The NH600 is a great little machine, a bit clunky (big, with bulges) but it runs forever on a single AA battery and plays every imaginable ATRAC format. I have the Euro model with the optical input, some US versions did not have this or the remote jack I think. Also, I think it has the analog amp which gives it a really smooth great sound. You'll love it!

I have this same unit and it is very cool. Amazingly small and light, the ultimate in portable MD playback. Mine still charges and runs for a good long time too. Good luck on your sale, I'll be interested to see how much you get for it. It's up to 80 bucks already!

Ahha ... I'll have to watch and see if all of the posts I see like this are polls. Thanks Stephen!

Oddly, this post showed up as a new post for me today. This happens with some regularity, old posts showing up as new. Regardless, that is one sweet looking cassette unit sailorman!

I agree with Stephen on this. If you have a DC input for charging the unit, you should just pick up a charger of the correct specifications and use that. USB charging can be finicky as it is sometimes dependent upon drivers for the USB port if on a PC and unreliable unless specifically designed for use otherwise.

What it the rated current output of the charger for the PRS-505? I suspect that the RH1 charger has a lower rated current capability and cannot provide enough juice to charge the reader. I just looked at one of my RH1 chargers and it is rated at 800 milli-amps which is actually a rather high value for such a small device. I am surprised that the 800 milli-amps is too low to charge your device. I know that I use a Kensington iPhone charger at work to power and charge my RH1, so it is unlikely that the RH1 is expecting some sort of signal from the charger other than the +5V. It is possible that your reader is looking for some signal to identify the charger. This is something Sony would do, Dell does it for their laptops. Is the USB cable for the reader the standard larger connector on one end and the mini-USB connector on the other end? Will the reader charge from the USB port on a PC or Mac? I suspect not as USB 2.0 is limited to 500 milli-amps as a current supply.

That's insane! You are one fortunate MD spinner Odyssey!

I think that's great actually! I think I receall you once telling the story of the "Fur covered MZ-RH1".

Elliot, you are correct. The unit, during normal operation, will only draw as much current as it requires. So as long as your voltage and polarity are correct and your supply's rated current is greater than or equal to the original, you should have no problem at all. I would keep an eye on the charge function of the battery the first couple of charges however. You may find that it charges faster and gets hotter but the charge circuits are designed to compensate for variations in current from the supply and will limit themselves when the temperature reaches a certain set point.

Nice catch Stephen, I read MZ1 and my brain converted it to MZ-N1 ... The MZ1 was the first unit ever available and had ATRAC 1.0

This is just my opinion, but there may be more to it than that. The act of recording in real-time via an optical input to a portable or a deck for that matter produces a much different sound to me. The encoding is done in real time by a dedicated ASIC designed solely for the purpose of compressing an audio signal into the ATRAC format. There is no question about the speed factor, using a PC with SonicStage or Simple Burner produces faster results, but I have many recordings made in real-time LP2 that just sound better. I am not sure why, I don't do them all this way, but the recordings I have made in LP2 real-time sound fantastic.

I suggest you start saving your pennies!

I am pretty sure that SonicStage 4.3 Ultimate will work as is with the original 32 bit drivers under Windows 7 32 bit.

I stocked up on 80 minute blanks a couple of years ago and I am sitting on 200+ unused blanks. I am amazed at how the prices have risen since I did this. Here is a great buy it now on eBay for 70 Sony Gold Blanks for $160. Shipping is free and it works out to less than $2.30 per disk. You should jump on it before I do! I'll do a little checking and see if I can find a few retailers I used state-side to stock up. There were a couple of places in NYC and I also had several batches shipped over from England which was quick and very reasonable.

On the Source machine: Some time ago, I ran the File Conversion Tool, removed the check mark next to "Add copy protection". Using the SonicStage Backup Tool, I created a backup of my entire library to an external USB HD, the library is about 25GB. On the Target machine: I installed SonicStage Connect Player 4.3 Ultimate version from the forum (Arvin's version). I installed to the default C: drive location. I did not connect any ATRAC device prior to restoring the backup of my music library. On my D: drive, I created a directory "d:\music\SonicStage\" I connected the USB HD and started the backup tool and selected "Restore". The backup tool asks for the location of the previously backed up library, I pointed to the location on my USB HD. The backup tool then asks for the target location you wish to restore the files to, I pointed to the new directory created on my D: drive. At this point the backup tool says something about authenticating the database via an active Internet connection, this dialog disappears after a while and the restore begins. Once the restore was completed, I fired up SonicStage and all of my library was displayed in the "My Library" browser. I noticed that the upper right "available space" figure was clearly showing the space available on my 240GB C: SSD and not my nearly empty 500GB D: I entered the options via Tools --> Options menu and on the "Location to save imported files" I changed the default location to "d:\music\SonicStage\" Upon application, the "Avaialble space" in the upper right of the SonicStage display showed the free space on my d: drive. I just ripped five new CDs to ATRAC Lossless 352Kbps and the new files were ripped right into the same location as the restored backup. At this point I connected a DH10P with no disk, it was immediately recognized as a HiMD Mass Storage device. I then inserted a disk and changed the mode in SS to NetMD, W7-64 tried to load a driver but failed as we know it will. I located the DH10P device in Device Manager and changed the driver to the 760 64 bit NetMD driver and the disk could then be formatted in SS as NetMD or HiMD. Everything seems to be working very well! I do not know for sure if my SS database structure was in order prior to beginning, but I had no issues performing a back up or a restore. I did run the conversion tool a while back to strip off any copy protection so I know for sure that was done. I have done this on a couple of machines over the years and I exclusively use the backup tool, outside of SS, I never use the File --> Import functionality except to convert an MP3 into ATRAC and get it into my Library. I have never used the M-Crew server tool you mention.
-
Sheesh, I must have been half asleep when I originally looked, there is also clearly an option to set the import folder! Thanks anyway gang!
-
Well, it looks like it is as simple as choosing the destination location upon restore of the backup! I expect it will work fine.
-
I am performing a fresh install of 4.3 Ultimate. I am transferring my library from another machine using the backup tool. I have my main drive in the machie as an SSD and want to preserve the space on that drive for programs and use my D:\ drive to store the data. I cannot seem to locate any setting to specify the location of the library of ATRAC files... This may be an option when I do the actual restore of the backup, i am not quite there yet, still copying a large file now. Stephen, this is something you are likely able to answer for me. Maybe it is so obvious I am missing it? Thanks in advance!

Battery is probably dead, it is nearly 15 years old ... According to the Browser it is :LiIon AD-S31BT (3.6V 800mAh). I would start by trying to locate a suitable replacement. MS702

Great pic PhilippeC! It's fun to see your rig!

Sadly, that is the fate of many cassette player/recorders. I have one old "boombox" left and it still plays tapes but the belts are so stretched out the "Wow & Flutter" would probably measure around 10%! There has to be some source of new belts online somewhere. Google is your friend. :-)

Not to mention the fact that changing that LiIon battery is nearly impossible for most users to perform. These units are old too, the simple matter of truth is that the original battery is almost certainly near death and it likely hardly takes a charge at all. You also do not have the AA battery side car. I would not expect anything other than lowball offers. Sorry Sony_Fan, this is one of those units which was of great value new but sadly has limited options for portable use after that battery goes ...
