    MZ-N1 bargain

Sweet deal for you! That was my first NetMD unit, I love them to this day, I have 4 of them! Only a couple are in really nice shape. The N1 is a very nice unit.
  2. Yes! I was literally just looking at that same unit! am going to check with the seller and see if he'll ship to the US. Thanks Stephen!
  3. Hudson, you have me thinking again ... Would this unit fit in my E46?
  4. Nice find Hudson! You know I am looking for the same unit just not sure if it will work in the E46 models sold in the USA. Post some pictures once you get it installed! I wonder if you can swap the knob from the Business Unit CD?
  5. I think my E909 is an MDLP capable player only, it's a really cool little unit too, all metal case, small and light. Type-R, no Type-S but has pretty good sound on LP2. Three disks can hold a days worth of tunes ...
  6. That's a nice collection indeed. I wish I had started collecting them before the prices for them got to be so high ...
  7. The N1 was my first Net-MD unit (maybe the first available?) Great unit, so great I think I have four of them. You definitely need the dock for this unit if you want to use its Net-MD capabilities. Recording real time through analog or digital optical in will produce fantastic results when using SP (which is 292Kbps versus 132Kbps which is LP2). Even LP2 via analog or optical sounds great but the Type-R DSP makes SP recordings really shine. It's no ES deck mind you but still very clean recordings all the same. SonicStage will likely be able to import ATRAC recordings made in Sound Stage without issue. If you are looking for SP quality you don't want or need SonicStage, the best bit rate you can transfer using it is 132Kbps LP2 (on a non-HiMD unit), it offers "pseudo" SP which is really just padded LP2, same quality as LP2 not real SP. I would call the seller out and demand a dock, just for the heck of it; the unit is worth less without it and cannot be used as a Net-MD device without it either ...
  8. I think some versions of 4.2 also had had ties in to the now defunct Connect music store. I can't imagine anyone having a need for that ...
  9. You have to record in real-time using the analog or optical input on the R50. This is a great portable, built like a tank. The unit predates MDLP and NetMD.
  10. I took your survey! I think another student from your school took the same course a couple of years ago and posted a very similar survey.
  11. I saw that yesterday, your listing I believe? The price is so high even if I wanted it I could never justify spending that much. Good luck to you.
  12. Agreed, nice grab! slugbahr and bluecrab are right, the disks alone are nearly worth 150USD.
  13. Beautiful! You are a talented artist Abhinav ...
  14. Hey Guys, I have been lurking for a few weeks, been so busy with work lately I have not taken the time to keep involved around here. This thread got my interest. I took my JA20ES apart tonight and got some pictures. The unit does indeed have the CXD-2656R chip, although I was incorrect when I stated that the "Type-R" moniker was on the faceplate of the unit, it is not. This should clear things up. I have to say I have made hundreds of fantastic recordings with this unit in SP from a Sony DVP-9000ES via optical transfer and I listen to them all of the time, I have yet to note any odd artifacts in the recordings, my ears of course. Check it out: My JA20ES under my JB940 The ATRAC board is actually mounted upside down under the drive mechanism. A little closer This last one my wonderful wife, the photog in the family, took a nice closeup of the chip
  15. As usual, a top notch listing with a nice honest write-up and great clear pictures! 8 days left and it's up to almost 150USD, I hope you get your reserve and them some!
  16. That unit looks new, beautiful!
  17. Hey, that's great news, congrats! Stephen definately know his stuff ...
  18. Yeah, I like the idea of the tweaked Wii, that's a pretty affordable solution, must be sans HDMI, video via analog component. I use a PS3 and a small powerful laptop with HDMI to stream stuff now. I also recently bought an inexpensive "Home Theater in a Box" which streams from the DLNA server on my NAS as well. Stephen, I have a few TVs with USB as well, but all are loder and it is intended for firmware updates only, too bad. I do miss the portability of VHS though!
  19. I agree with Soundbox, I love MD, I love the form factor and I love the sound. I have only ever strayed with a couple of Sony HD based units which used ATRAC any way, same awesome sound. In the past few years I have used mainly SP recorded via optical in real-time. I have an iPhone (my third in four to five years) and I would not waste my time copying music to is because it sounds like crap compared to any SP recorded (or Hi-SP for that matter) content. I do long for the days of the ease of a VCR ... I have a DVR and the OP is right, the ability to be mobile with the recording is not the same. A few years ago, I bought a DVD recorder made by Sony, it records in the same way as a VCR does but uses DVD-R media, it works OK, but it is limited to standard definition (480i in US) and does not really look very good, well, it looks almost as good as a decent SVHS VCR, but it would be nice to have a usable format for easily recording broadcast HD content. I have been experimenting with PC based DVR software and NAS storage on high speed network in the home ... Not optimal yet, but it will come around. Oh yeah, and unless I setup streaming to external networks, I can't really take it to my friends house to watch.
  20. So when I rip at 4x in SP from CD -> MD on my MXD-D400 I am not getting a Type-R recording? I will need to perform some comparisons of the same source material recorded in real-time versus 4x and see if I can tell the difference ...
  21. That's a bummer. Your search must continue. I have to guess that very few of these units were made?
  22. You may also try changing the following added lines: %NETMDUSB.DeviceDesc%=NETMDUSB.INSTALL, USBVID_04DD&PID_9013 %NETMDUSB.DeviceDesc%=NETMDUSB.INSTALL, USBVID_04DD&PID_9014 To this: %NETMDUSB.DeviceDesc%=NETMDUSB.Dev, USBVID_04DD&PID_9013 %NETMDUSB.DeviceDesc%=NETMDUSB.Dev, USBVID_04DD&PID_9014 When I got it to work with my Sharp unit, I did not have the string "INSTALL" but had the string "Dev" in its place.
  23. That is a really nice collection. I remember looking through that a few years back and thinking it was really awesome then as well. KJ_Palmer, I do think that is a word and you are so right, looking at the amazing diversity of the designs and styles of this particular collection really does bring out the collectability of the devices ... Thanks for sharing Jimma.
  24. So guys, I got my Sharp DR80 out and charged it up today. I was able to tweak the NETMD760 driver configuration file "NETMD760.inf" to include the necessary lines for Windows 7 64bit to load the driver and recognize the DR80. I was also able to transfer several albums from my SS 4.3 library onto a fresh blank. It works great! Windows 7 64bit tries to locate a driver for the USB device ID which it cannot find, hence you get the "Device driver was not successfully installed" error message. The device manager initially places the Sharp DR80 under "Other Devices". Drilling down on the NetMD device properties and locating the hardware ID string: USBVID_04DD&PID_9014 Using this data, I located the following three sections in the "NETMD760.inf" file and added the text below to each section (I think only two are required for 64 bit install) Section 1: [ControlFlags] ; Test Sharp Units ExcludeFromSelect=USBVID_04DD&PID_9014 ; DR80 Section 2: ; For Win2K and later [sony] ; Test Sharp Units %NETMDUSB.DeviceDesc%=NETMDUSB.Dev, USBVID_04DD&PID_9014 ; DR80 Section 3: ; For Vista 64 and Win 7 64 [sony.NTAMD64] ; Test Sharp Units %NETMDUSB.DeviceDesc%=NETMDUSB.Dev, USBVID_04DD&PID_9014 ; DR80 Once the inf file is updated, right click on the NetMD device in Device Manager and select "Update Driver Software" Next select "Browser my computer for driver software" Use the "Browse" button to locate the driver files from the NETMD760 package which includes the recently modified inf file. Click "Next" You will be notified that the driver publisher cannot be verified, click "Install this driver software anyway" If you are watching the Device Manager, you will see the NetMD icon move into the "USB Devices" section. You should be good to go. Remember, as Stephen mentioned, you need to determine the USB Device ID for your unit, the one listed above is for the Sharp unit I have the DR80. I tried to attach a few screen shots I grabbed but I can't figure out how to include them in my post! Try this out and let us know how it works, it seems like we can add at least some Sharp NetMD devices into the driver configuration.
  25. I am glad you are here S. My fact checking has been bad of late!
