Full length songs. The Connect store ins't available in canada sadly, which is a mistake since there are online music stores here. Perhaps someone who bought music from the connect store can tell us what bitrates can be chosen.

If you're going to bash the player, why post at all?

perhaps there is an issue with your A3000. try resetting the unit with a pin or somethign small at the bottom of the unit, this will not erase the tracks on the device. with the update thec cpu usage will be 100% but not all the time. I tried SS with my unit once, it isn't that much quicker actually, CP works better, updates the player by itself and will read info for fav 100 and play history which I don't think function with SS. Advice to people, install CP with SS uninstalled, and any directories for SS deleted, in the user files as well, ie my documents and settings. Installing CP should be no problem, the program should update by itself when installation is occuring as well. Shame, once you get CP working, it is so much easier with the A series. Perhaps that is why I am pushing CP, because it works for me with no problems.

Yes they are mp3, using the information option on the A1000, it states all songs are mp3, cbr or vbr, depending on what I transfer. While on my A3000 I still have the 2 original songs from sony, and while trying the info option, it clearly states, atrac. Perhaps the A1000 and A3000 does it differently? remember I don't have SS nor the mp3 manager installed, only connect player.

True, but the price here announced by sony hasn't changed yet at all. It could be perhaps our 2 gig nano is also 249.99 at the local stores. But the thing is, flash mem is expensive and rather rare now that apple scopped up the large majority of it. The 4 gig nano is the same price as the 6 gig A1000 here. Granted it is smaller, has a colour screen and better software, but there are downsides which i won't get into it. So I am not sure how sony US will market the A600s in the US. The NWE507 costs 219 up here so that is rather expensive, the bean walkman and the circle walkman are cheaper though for the same memory size. Sony can charge a premium here I guess, but not sure on the US with the popularity of the nano. Problem is, J&R may be charging more than sony will for the A600, but usually most stores that I have pre-ordered stuff from were of the same price as from the original store. Why bother waiting though, just buy one from canada lol.

Rumz as for the cheaper price, depends, J&R is preordering the 2 gig models for 249 US on their site, that is equal in price to the canadian unit, which is 249.99 Canadian.

The HD1 was offered in the main stores and I think even at sony stores as well. Not sure why Canada didn't receive the HD3 and HD5 units, kind of puzzling indeed. Oddly enough I bought my A1000 at best buy since I like their return policy and I hate dealing with futureshop people.

Nevermind the damn highlight problem is back, seems to only happen when I transfer songs. arrgghh.

Have you tried upgrading CP like I mentioned? the fav 100 and play history do not update on the go, they only update when you connect the player to the pc and open the connect player.

Instead of white characters on the oled screen, they have a green colour to them.

I filled almost 6 gigs on my A1000, so more than 2 gigs is usable. No word on wma yet. I personally don't care, never liked the wma codec.

Call came in today, picked up my A3000 silver model. I was pleasently surprised about the weight, it isn't that heavy as I would have imagined it to be. Size wise, it is a bit bigger than I expected, but I think that is because I got the A1000 before hand. The large OLED screen is massive when compared to the A1000, not sure why it's only .5 inches larger. The colour of the screen has a lightish green tinit to it, and so far it's looking good. Connect player found the A3000 and now I have both the A1000 and A3000 in the program with no problems moving files to either unit. Will be doing a battery test over the weekend with it, so stay tuned. Pics will be up friday due to exams over the next 2 days.

Wow that is rather expensive. Much more than the 2 gig nano in the US. granted you have a much better battery life, but no colour screen. It costs even more in the US than it does in canada, ouch.

NW-A600 Series | Features & Specifications - new "Intelligent shuffle" feature: 1) Most frequently listened tunes shuffle mode 2) Time/Date based shuffle mode 3) Artist link shuffle mode and 4) Sports shuffle mode I don't think these will work on the player if SS is used. I asked at the store in Coq centre, there is this one rep there that really seems to know jack about sony products and etc, but he said it's on the site in a different area, or section. I said no it's not, check the site, he then left to deal with another customer. lol Not sure why it isn't listed on the site, perhaps a screw up on sony's end, oddly enough silver A3000 was delayed until next week, dec 15th, and it just came in today, more than a week earlier thankfully. On a side note, saw the walkman bean today as well, never really knew it was that small. Also sony is now offereing for download both manuals for the A1000 and A3000 on their sonystyle site, after you sign in of course.

I don't think he meant that sony would discontinue selling mp3s players in the US, that would be suicide. As of today, Sony US has made no announcements whether they will carry the new models offered up here and worldwide, the A600, A1000 and A3000. Lamewing, all 3 models are sold in canada, with the A1000 at other retailers such as best buy, futurehop and london drugs. I have not seen the new 2 gig A600 at any other store other than the sony store. In addition the larger 20 gig model is only available from SonyStyle and the Sony store. That is where I purchased mine, and when I mentioned this to the rep at best buy, he wasn't even aware they have a 20 gig model available. SS can't be bundled with the new players since then some of the features of the new A series will not work, such as play history and intelligent shuffle. Oddly enough, there are plenty of players on the market that have also below average software when compared to itunes, but people still buy the product. CP isn't really that buggy anymore for me, it's the speed of it, it isn't as fast as I want it to be. itunes runs a bit faster on my pc, but it's not far ahead of the CP. My view on this is that Sony US will announce the new players or something at CES 2006 in January regarding the US markets for new hardware.

Would be nice for someone who has an A1000 or A3000 to work on this as well, since even though I transferred all the files across as mp3s, GYM sees them as atrac.

I don't think any e-retailers are selling the new units online and do international shipping, ie to the US. I haven't seen any of the new A600s on ebay canada, nor any of the larger HDD based ones. Mind you I was planning on buying an A600 and selling it on ebay, but don't have the time or cash for that now. Unless there are people in the US that really want the 2 gig version, I can always purchase it for you if you are willing to send the money over. The winter edition is for sale on ebay.com. 2 units for 600 US but they are shipped from japan so again, not sure how the fm would work. That comes out to 300 US for one unit, not including shipping. with taxes the A600 here with fm and 2 gigs comes out to 246 US. In addition the A1000 and A3000 are on ebay as well, but all shipping from japan, and some from the UK, but I think the UK plugs are not going to work for the US customers. If you do buy from canada, same voltage, and fm will work as well, warrenty wise, I guess you could send it back to the person in canada for a refund or fix up. With the 1 gig sony player on bestbuy.com at 149.99 plus state taxes, I don't think it would be that great to order the 2 gig from canada, unless you seriously want to. at 246US with taxes, or 216 US with no taxes, it is rather expensive.

angschte to answer your question, yes the larger A3000 has a different colour on the screen versus the smaller A1000. It is more of a greenish tint. But the buttons still have a white colour to them on the silver A3000.

Well the big daddy arrived today. It is much bigger than my A1000 of course, wasn't expecting it to be so much larger as well. Here are the 2 songs that come preloaded: Paperface - Dance Karate Colette - Feelin' Hypnotized (Kaskade Mix) both in atrac3plus at 256kbps. The screen is much larger and looks great, and it does have a greenish tint to it and isn't white. Will post pictures later on.

That's the thing, I am not sure each region gets the updates at the same time. Dinko tried updating to this version before and then his CP stopped working at all. Perhaps each region does their own testing before releasing the updates. Interesting that you still have the scroll problem and I don't. Do you guys have a bar now going across the logo when it open, the purple one, like it's loading something? What are your OpenMG versions? I got: PxEngine Version: 2.4.35.500 OpenMG version: 4.3.00 Doubt this has anything to do with it, but it might. When does it jump back though? when you have the player connected or even with general browsing?

Well no surprise here but I prefer Connect Player. It runs about the same as SonictStage for me, and has now stopped crashing. Importing files is a breeze and I like the way you can organize them via artists, albums, genres and etc. Never really tried that in sonicstage since my MD didn't have a huge capacity so I had no need to import all my songs into SS. But now with the A1000, I do and CP does a fine job of importing the songs and keeping them organized. The design of the program is less complicated and more windows like, which I prefer, SS seems to afterthought in some of its functions.

Yup, they are at the store now, no info on sony style about them either, they had 2 models, the blue (violet) and the silver model, both the 2 gig versions since I they caught my eye as I was looking at them. price is $249.99 Canadian plus taxes.

My Connect player updated this morning, it installed fine no problems so far. My current version is: 1.0.02.11150 again this is apparently region specific. This is the info via sony canada's support site: 12/02/05 - CONNECT Player Version 1.0.01.02110 / Auto-Update Version 1.0.02.11140 Not sure why I have a higher version, but who cares. A few things seem to have changed now, before when selecting a song, in the library and schrolling down, the files jumped back up to the first selected song, doesn't occur anymore, so I am happy there. It seems to be running much faster now as well, and less choppier. That was the auto-update I guess, since now the entire program reinstalled via the update process and now my program is the same version as this one here: 1.0.02.11170 Mem usage is still around 100 megs for me and the CPU usage jumps around from 0 to 60.
