Format's demise leads to Australia facing massive Minidisc liquidation.

...and closer... It will of course come when I'm out, but anyway... Edit: My thinking was right, I was out (with our dog) when DHL arrived - but we chased him down and now the package is here... -

It's getting closer... -
I don't know - I don't have the newest version... Many burning programs can burn to an image drive, check the program you usually use. And then mount with daemon-tools, if the burning program itself doesn't come bundled with image drive software.

Why does nero use the FFDShow filter for encoding?

Are the songs originally mp3? -
Yes, you can use a burner program lika Nero and instead of burning to a CD-RW burn to an Image file (selectable as a pre-defined burner in Nero). Then mount that image, you could use Nero Image Drive instead of Daemon Tools, and it then behaves just like you have an extra CD-ROM drive. Everytime you make a new disc, just overwrite the old image file.

I'm sure. I have both 33EL, 35EL and 40ELK and all work with my NH600.

Yes, Sefu wrote that he would go through with the orders where credit cards were already charged and they had tried to send the packages. They get extra work and cost by having to open all bundles, removing the batteries and sending them as airmail in a separate envelope. That's not something they want to keep on doing, so for now they are putting a hold on international orders. Looks like my package is on its way then, despite the non-informative tracking info... -
It's just to make the software Open Source...

Yes, a Hi-MD recorder (not a 600D or other "download only" unit) would let you record on a "Hi-formatted" disc (even in uncompressed PCM) and then using the USB connection upload that to a computer.

Yeah, but it hasn't changed that text for three full days now... Maybe it means it has left Australia, maybe not. It doesn't seem it has been registered anywhere else, like Los Angeles or Singapore which would seem like two of the alternative places where my package could be put on a plane with a direction in the proximity of Sweden... -

My tracking info still just says " Your item was transferred from SYDNEY at 20:55 on 09 Nov 2005 for international despatch scheduling."... -
Also, that's 16GBit - not GByte - meaning it's 2GBytes. Still, it's the way to go with no movable parts. Flash will probably always (or at least for quite a number of years) be more expensive than MD-like media, but it's possible to make the players cheaper. With no movable parts it's possible to make players that last longer, but that seems to be i no manufacturer's interest.

Let's come up with a name for the ATRAC3plus 352kbps bit rate.

Hi-CKUP. -
I ordered batteries from an other eBay merchant: http://stores.ebay.com/id=91985007&ssPageN...I:SIB:StoreView I'll get back with if I got something and if it's useable... Minidisc Australia still have NH1's, but for being allowed to export them they have to remove all batteries and send them separately by airmail, making the workload too high on them so they stopped international orders.

Well, the batteries are already sent by airmal and the main package should take off any hour now - keeping my fingers crossed... -
You can use a standard 3rd party adapter - 20 dollars - it just has to give the right voltage out. It's DC, so it doesn't matter if 50 or 60Hz goes into it. The problem with the Australian units are that they don't work att 110V, better replace them than buying a transformer. But right now you can't buy a NH1 from Minidisc Australia.

I ordered ten days ago, the 20-pack of Hi-MD discs I ordered was removed due to being out-of-stock and MD Aus not knowing when new should arrive. The order was dispatched a week ago, then it was "delayed slightly" due to Airport Security stopping the shipment. Australia Post won't keep any packages at the airport, so they were returned to the sender. According to the tracking info "An attempt to deliver your item was made by the Sydney Contractor delivery service at 10:06 on 05 Nov 2005. Addressee not available", according to MD Aus that was not correct and they got them back last Monday. The batteries were said to be okay, so the parcels went back Tuesday. The tracking info showed " Your item arrived at the international processing centre in SYDNEY at 19:16 on 08 Nov 2005, and is ready for processing." But the packages were once again rejected, and now firmly and definitely. How they could talk by each other for several days I don't know. MD Aus have now removed the batteries and are shiopping them by Airmail hoping that will work. The "Tracking Info of the Day" is "Your item was transferred from SYDNEY at 20:55 on 09 Nov 2005 for international despatch scheduling" meaning it will probably be shipped tomorrow, if there are no dangerous cables or similar stopping the shipment this time. In the meantime the Hi-MD discs arrived in stock a day ago... And all the time I have this situation hanging over me, that I might need to go to England for 2-3 months of work with just a couple of days notice, and my wife is right now on holiday in India. So the package may arrive with nobody home, and then probably returned to the sender. And of course I can't hope for not getting that job... -

They have had problems with not being allowed to include the batteries, so I think they have not had time haggling shipping cost. I don't know how it is solved, but last week's international shipping is scheduled for tomorrow. -
That review indicates that they indeed have hired some new software designers - new as in "have never made a program before-new"...

We have only guesses. My guess was (is) that 352kbps adds 40% storage demand to Hi-SP, but it gives maybe (I haven't listened to it yet) only 10% better sound or so. It's not space-effective, so it was kept hidden. But now they have decided to give out what's available, maybe for a last try to save the format or maybe because they don't care about the reputation of MD anymore, since it's doomed. As I mentioned, we have only guesses...

Any anti-virus, ad-aware, spyblocker, firewall or similar application running?

This stuff is imported under the same restrictions, nothing is manufactured in Australia, nothing is added by Minidisc Australia... If no rules were broken by Sony Australia then no rules will be broken now, it's not so much exporting as "redirecting". It would be a clear case. If it weren't for customs being involved. And the current terror scare... -

It would probably be better not to say that the NH900/NH1 includes batteries, even tiny gumstick ones... Nothing has made it out of the country, it's close to having to cancel the order for me...
