  1. Yes, when I think of the software from Sony I almost change side in the New DVD Format War - from Bluray to HD-DVD...
  2. "The MCMD-R1 is a quick and easy way to transfer data from your Memory Stick®,xD Picture Card™, Compact Flash®, Smart Media, SD™ Memory Card media to a Hi-MD™ disc. With just a push of a button, you can start storing all your data on Hi-MD™ discs, which can hold up to 45 hours1 of music each. The great thing about this Memory Card Reader is you don't need a PC to use it, and it's incredibly portable. It operates on 4 "AAA" batteries, so you can take it anywhere and back-up your files on the go."
  3. Not much "cool factor" in that... I wonder if those two built-in mics are removable? On the low(er) end, Sony has released the "Electronic Razor-lookalike" ICD-CX50... It records both picture and sound, to flash: http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/337/C3817/
  4. With my NH600 I think it works OK, and has several display settings. One is like this: First, it displayes three lines with * Name given to Hi-MD disc * Folder name, same as group for me * Song title The first line scrolls, then the second, then the third. After that, it changes to display three lines: * Artist * Album * Song Scrolls the same line-by-line way as with the first combination. Then it starts all over again.
  5. Have you checked these? http://www.be-direct.co.uk/productDetails.asp?id=17420
  6. Well, there are 15 product lines needing changes. Minidisc is surely one of them. But Sony has given three alternatives for what could happen with these product lines: * Drop it altogether. * Downsize, concentrate on one or two models instead of several. * Joint-venture, have someone else share development cost.
  7. When I bought my three NH600 units a couple of months ago the sales clerk quitly asked me what that Hi-MD was - he had never heard of it!
  8. They would lose a hundred dollars for each unit...
  9. Great icons. I wish I had use for the EOS 1DS Mk.II icon...
  10. The M$ codec is said to be very good and efficient, but those (WM9?) DVD's with HD content look bloody awful.
  11. Yes, the Video2000 cassettes were really "long" (while VHS were mostly 120min) but they made them unnecessary expensive so there was no real advantage to 8h cassettes (just more wind/rewind) Video2000 had the best picture, Betamax had the best sound, VHS had the prerecorded XXX movies. VHS won.
  12. To buy it from a Sony store would not only hurt your VISA - they would keep it! eBay is the best solution, though beware of some sellers having very low prices and extremely high shipping rates. The RM-MC35ELK (or the RM-MC33EL) is the cheaper option, £15-£25 The RM-MC40ELK is nice, cost around £40. The RM-MC55ELK is usually more expensive, and not really worth the money (maybe £50) even though it is very functional and yet small. I have one RM-MC33EL, one RM-MC35ELK and one RM-MC40ELK for my three units.
  13. Yes, the certificate for https://www.atraclife.com is owned by the domain www.dharmaseed.org
  14. Prices on blanks are lowest in Australia, even if a seller who ships international adds an extra AUD/disc it's still cheaper to send them all around the world if they only charge nominal shipping costs (which they did when I bought). The new 1GB discs stores three times more than a regular disc (reformatted in a Hi-MD unit) and 6 times more than you can get in a NetMD unit. That makes it tempting to set a price that directly reflect this larger storage capacity, even though the added cost for manufacturing isn't that high at all.
  15. Well, Sony isn't really able to invest small amounts either, if it's not their core business: http://www.finfacts.com/irelandbusinessnew..._10003358.shtml
  16. Well, don't miss that it says "Minidisc Dead in Australia". I think Sony for now is killing MD in Australia and many other places where it's not doing so well, like Scandinavia (not official dead here, but in practice it's only HD & flash players). They will possibly continue to sell MD/Hi-MD in Japan, USA and a few other countries and then decide if there should be a 3rd generation (probably not) or they just will continue selling 2nd gen units until people don't want to buy them anymore.
  17. ...yes, and very reasonable shipping rates as well, and they ship immediately, I bought 10.
  18. NH1 usually goes for from USD 250 to just over 300 (new units), a little hard to compute this cost for just the MD since it often is sold bundled. I bought my RM-MC40ELK from Rapidelectronics (they always have one or two actions) and paid USD 58 including shipping Australia->Sweden, took 5 days after I had sent money by bank transfer.
  19. Do you use a 1GB disc or an 80min one? If the latter, is it reformatted?
  20. ...but they often go for pretty high prices anyway... Though the woman that had her slightly used NH900 at eBay a week ago, with a Buy-It-Now price of 497 dollars didn't get it sold, so she relisted it as new for a hundred dollars less but got it removed from eBay... UK Minidiscs tend to sell slightly more expensive than US, with Australian often being yet a bit cheaper - probably because something looks cheaper for only GBP 95 than AUD 219...
  21. I wouldn't make this reply if you hadn't specifically asked for feedback... It was a decent deal up until a week ago: http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-1GB-Hi-MD-Blank-M...1QQcmdZViewItem
  22. When Iron Maiden recently played in Gothenburg the concert was televised in Swedish TV. Bruce Dickinson called out "To all of you people who are recording this, see to that you not only spread it in Scandinavia but all over the world"... What temperature would it be in Hell when Metallica said that?
