  1. Anyone celebrating Earth Day? With a minidisc player on or off?
  2. Nice equipment it would be nice to hear a few samples.
  3. I found a box of old vhs tapes destined for the garbage. These older tapes were all made in japan. Using them now with a dtv converter. Fun to use.
  4. http://www.kromerradio.com/promo.htm It is still available Jan 02 2012 Happy New Year everyone!
  5. Interesting comparison. You ranked the iPod last.
  6. Thanks for the tip the 27/30 is a good starting point.
  7. I tried the line out setting and it really works! Some of my units do not have volume out. What do I set the volume to in this case?
  8. Works with any track mode (SP, LP2 Hi-Md, etc.) 1. Listen to your favorite mp3 player (iPOD, Sony, etc.) with headphones. 2. Using the same headphones listen to your minidisc player. 3. Enjoy and appreciate the minidisc sound quality. Which one did you find better? I always find minidisc better.
  9. I should clarify the volume drops off completely but its only for a millisecond there are no long pauses of silence just short droputs
  10. Recording carries on but the volume drops. Playback is fine (for a non dropout recording). Strangely I can minimize the dropouts before recording by first playing a full disc in SS and exercise the pickup. Play first track then jump to last track using SS play mode. The pickup moves along the entire sled. This seems to make the recording afterward on a blank disc with the fewest of dropouts. I happen to have a 505 with the same problem.
  11. What could the problem be? Ribbon? Laser?
  12. I bought one of these used recently and recording (I tried from SS in both LP2 and LP4 mode) I can hear occasional dropouts. I verified it is the unit and not the disc as recording with another unit was flawless. Is there any "laser power" adjustments someone can walk me through here, if you think this is the issue. I am willing to try as it was a gamble buying it used. Thanks!
  13. Option 2 sounds interesting. If the cloud companies legally allow sharing of your playlists, it would be possible to use minidisc to record but recording is illegal of course?
  14. Attached are some links on the general topic. But really anything could happen, so anything is possible. I thought I would ask the experts on here. http://music.google.com/about/ http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/11_15/b4223043644684.htm
  15. A lot of new Cloud services are coming online, Apple and Amazon to name a few. What new options if any will this present to minidisc users? What do you want to see?
  16. Open the clasp there lies the serial #. I have 516xxxx another one 517xxxx
  17. Sound may vary from setup to setup - im using mdr-v150s. I don't like the sound from n505, it sounds grainy. The S1 drive is quiet, you can barely here it while is is recording from SS. The fallback is weight. However that is a strength. The metal clasp design appears to take all the impact every time it drops - and it still works afterwards.
  18. I guess your unit may have an issue. Where is the unit made in? And fw. version?
  19. Sony MZ-S1 S2 Sports Net MD I remember reading the manual saying it had a special drive unit. When recording it sounds very quiet but also fast. What headphone circuitry is in this model? Standard Issue? It does sound very clean.
  20. Sony chairman credited with developing CDs dies He is holding a minidisc and player in this photo! http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110423/ap_on_hi_te/as_obit_former_sony_president
  21. There are a lot of reasons why an mp3 will not convert in SS. For those ones it is just easier to convert to wav file. MP3 files as mentioned can contain tags, bits etc that SS does not like.
  22. Use another tool to convert to WAV then import the WAV into SS. Always works.
  23. I had similar issues how did you clean the contacts? Suggest to clean them up with alcohol and q tips both terminals.
  24. I have the standard SS installation from connect.com on W7-32bit. SonicStage : 4.3.01.14050 ... Hi-MD : 5.0.00.11280 ... Net MD : 5.0.00.11280 Do I have the latest drivers? What shows up for W7-64bit?
  25. I don't think it is possible however as a workaround (Some other members will be able to give the proper technical steps) you could add or remove 2 second silence tracks then merge song track with a silence track to mimic delay time between tracks as you desire. I even think in SS you can merge tracks.
