Munich on DVD and Happy Feet in the theater.

Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 3 Studio in black and Shure E2g. My first tries at isolating earphones so I didn't want to go all out and spend too much yet. About $62 each + free shipping. So far, so good.

johnnybebad: Congrats on the new shiny thing and welcome to MDCF! This thread might be a good read for you (if you haven't seen it already): http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=18021

I had Firefox 1.8 and a lot, if not all, of the forum options weren't working for me. I upgraded to 2.0 and the problems disappeared (except the PM thingy of course). I can access all the drop-down menus now.

Unless you're picky about getting a plastic battery cover with the LIP4WM, then the eBay-bought batteries should be fine. Just a small note that I think they come in a plastic baggy and without a cover. Not a big deal I'm sure because of the savings you get, but just thought you should know.

I knew it was made by Sony. If you had read the thread that I linked, you would see that nearly all of the MD veterans (who have years of experience) in that thread recommend against ANY store-bought cleaner, head or lens cleaner, for MD units. Like Sparda said, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Edit: But, if you keep insisting that you want to use a head cleaner for yearly maintenance, then why not give Sony support a call about your dilemma. I'm sure the packaging of your MD-8HCL has a toll-free number on it. Forum majority advises against any commercial cleaners (unless used as a last resort). Sony advises regular maintenance with their store-bought product. You would like regular cleaning, albeit in a less frequent fashion. Clearly, you want to follow Sony's advice, so perhaps it's best if you consulted Sony directly.

Same here with PMs. I just figured it would be worked out soon enough. Lol, hopefully, the senders aren't looking for a quick response. Also, the Options drop down doesn't work for me; maybe these are signs that I should get to bed and play with my new gifts tomorrow morning. Edit: Oh, the "Last Visitors" feature is pretty interesting. You can see who's stalked you.
-
Sorry if I misled you, but when I said "those cleaners are recommended if..." in my previous post, I meant "those cleaners are recommended by people from minidisc-related forums if..." So, it's up to you. Trust what's printed on the package of a store-bought cleaner or go by what seasoned MD users have recommended in the past and present. Good luck.

MUCH, much nicer and cleaner. Looks great and easier on the eyes, too.

Happy holidays to all and especially to the MDCF Triumvirate - Rich, Adrian, and Ishii. Everyone enjoy the day off (hopefully) as well as the post-holiday shopping sales.
-
Same here in my area (in the US). That's why I've only bought Hi-MD blanks online.
-
No, you didn't but your sentence is misleading. So, I had to clarify your somewhat misinformation in case a newbie stumbles across this post. See Richy's explanation, Pita2001.

Yes, but using an EL remote will not allow Kanji/Kana, no matter what the unit is, the unit's region settings, or if it has Satanic origins. The point is that if your unit IS capable of displaying Kanji/Kana, then you will need a remote with a "K" in its name in order to do so.
-
For remotes, I just keep in mind that: EL = electroluminescent K = can display Kanji/Kana.

Posts #2 and #3 from the thread that I linked should answer your question. When people have had skipping problems or whatever with their units, the most that I've seen them do is clean things with isopropyl alcohol. I have yet to see someone using commercial disc cleaners for regular maintenance. Usually, those cleaners are recommended if no other remedies work and the only other choice is to send the MD unit to Sony for repair.

And, to make things even more interesting: 40ELK + E35 (legacy, non-HiMD) = 1-line display + track number 40ELK + N505 (legacy, non-HiMD) = 1-line display + track number 40ELK + NE810 (legacy, non-HiMD) = 2-line display + track number 40ELK + E720 (legacy, non-HiMD) = 2-line display + track number There could be more, but those are all the non-HiMD units that I've tested with the 40ELK.

AudioCubes, but you'll find that their RH910's price is close to the RH1's. You can also try looking for the MZ-M10 (http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-M10+RH910.html). Those are still around, but also at a price near the RH1's. Good luck!

No offense, but I think you're also paranoid. There are still online sources for blanks and whether they're new, repackaged old stock, or covered in 4 inches of dust, duct tape, and dirty bandaids from the 1990s, they are still available for purchase and usable. Thanks for the lesson on Guitar Center. Didn't really need or want it, but good to know (I guess). By the way, you kind of are hastening the death of MD by sending everyone into a blank-buying panic. "It's the end of the MD world! Buy 'em while you still can! No matter what the price! Everything's discontinued!" Anyway, I'm not going to argue with you about this. Your life, your paranoia, your disposable income. Good luck and I sincerely do hope you find time away from your realist and MD-hunting ways to just sit back and enjoy the music.

Here is a good read for you: http://www.audiotstation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30829. Good luck!

Guitarcenter.com has 1GB and 74min blanks as well as the M200. They're all under the "Recording" section. If you're talking about having a separate "Minidisc" section, then that's wishful thinking. Not even AudioCubes has a separate MD section anymore; all MD units are now under "Recording Devices." Don't spend so much time freaking out and instilling paranoia/hysteria on this forum because that's just less time spent enjoying the format and the music. You waste precious "fun" time mulling over the slow death of MD. Sure, blanks are getting harder to find, but they're not impossible to track down ... yet. Try to focus on the positive - there are still online e-tailers with blanks as well as eBay, we have the RH1, and forums like this are keeping the format exciting and going strong for now. No one likes a party pooper so come on, try to keep your chin up.

I had an N1 with that problem. It hasn't stopped me from buying more MD units. But, it did leave me a little paranoid with my current recorders so that's why I've also purchased player-only models to hopefully reduce wear and tear on those recorders. On the other hand, there are still some N1 users out there whose units still work 100%. If you get the RH1 and still worry about it crashing like your N1, you can always get a player-only unit (or a lower-costing unit) later on to compliment it and share the workload. Good luck!

There's always the NH700 (great unit for the price) or the NHF800 (= NH700 + radio remote) from MiniDiscAccess.com or eBay. They both take AA. The NH900 is also nice, but that one is kind of hard to find. You can also try the M100/M10. Good luck!

for $49, brand new, not refurbished. There are 2 brick and mortar stores in my area that had stacks of them at this price. The remote is decent and can be used with MD units. A good buy if you need a CD player with an optical out for use with your MD line-in. x 32. Also from a brick and mortar store in my area. I'm sharing this stash with 2 other people. Not the best-looking discs, but at this price, they'll be good for archiving.

Wow! Are you going to open it? I think this 2000 series has got some unpleasant, ok ugly - lol, designs (I'm more partial to the 2002 series), but they sure are unique. Not like some other sets where you have the same design in 5 different colors. Go TDK.

If you don't get any/many replies here, try http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/ if you haven't already. And, I don't take responsibility for any amount of money you spend after visiting their forums. Good luck!
