To the topic starter, no, that is one of the main weaknesses of the jog dial walkman. And to "juli", no, if you do that you'll skip the song. You're referring to the players after the S70x series.
-
And the same can be said for the S61x series (I have the S616F). No free space information on the unit.

NW-E016F - Popping sound when unit shuts down
ender325_ replied to greendolphin1610's question in Audio
You are correct, even my S705F does that popping sound which is a bit annoying. -
1,0,1,1,3 here using MDR-EX90SL on Rock and Industrial music along with Clear Bass at 2 or 3.
-
No, my old E507 which is about 3 years old still works like a charm and the battery still lasts as advertised in 2005.
-
Well if you feel like it could be malfunctioning you can always change it at the store. I for one never used Properties on Windows to check up the battery so this was something new for me, but I'm sure your player's okay.
-
Mine says 100% cuz...well I charged it through the PS3 while copying songs to the dap (and don't trust Windows, trust the player's indicator, that's why it's there). Those are approximate times to charge the battery and can also vary due to humidity, temperature and that stuff. I'm sure your unit isn't malfunctioning.

I have the S616 version and yep you are overworried. You can unplug the player safely as long as it doesn't say "Don't Disconnect" message on the screen so no worries there. About the battery...that can vary. It depends on the bit rate, which audio format is used, brightness setting, if equalizer, clear stereo/bass, dynamic normalizer, DSEE...and if other stuff are used or not. The battery is very good in my opinion but I grew used to the 50 hour battery of Sony's past MP3 players (such as E505 and S705F) so I miss that feature. Relax and enjoy the great battery/sound your dap is providing to you. About the registering benefits I don't know because I've never registered mine lol.

I knew these series had a problem with the headphone port. Mine was affected, no sound at all coming from it. Since this is a Canada news...I wonder if this will apply to other regions as well. I really want this for my region too, that was an excellent player I would like to use again. Edit: Thanks a lot for the news! !

Many thanks but...the link doesn't work...I just see some japanese code and something about Framework.

I once had some issues with my NWZ-S616F player, didn't want to connect at all through USB. I suspected it was something related to Windows Media Player 11 so I downloaded it again and re-installed it and the player worked again. Try reinstalling WMP11 from microsoft.com, hope this helps.
-
*sigh* I still keep hearing more and more issues with the S70x series. Mine began by not outputting any sound on the right channel unless you played a bit with the headphone jack.....weeks later the left channel was dead (now with no sound at all) and I do take good care of my stuff. Something tells me these series are just plagued with issues (not all of em I know). I just bought the NWZ-S616F (black) and haven't looked back...well...sort of, I just miss the recording function along with Noise Canceling (although the last one can be solved).

Sony WILL Release WMP update for older Walkmans!
ender325_ replied to veggiemusician's question in Audio
Those are my worries exactly. I hope they also remember the S700 series. -
Being an owner of both the E507 and the S705F, I can say it is a big improvement in the soundstage. The sound's clearer, warmer and fuller. The earbuds that the player comes with are very good (they have a punchy bass) but I prefer the clarity of the EX90 earbuds (although these don't have the punchy bass pretty much).

Petition to sony asking for WMP update firmware for walkman users!
ender325_ replied to veggiemusician's question in Audio
All I ask for is Sony to release the last two SonicStage slaves through a firmware update (I'm talking about the S700 and A800 series) making them WMP11 compatible. I love my S705F because of its design, battery and sound and I'm sure the WMP compatibility can be achieved through a firmware update so Sony come on! (Weird thing is that the S700 series have never seen an update) -
Well that's true, even the Connect website says "New SonicStage 4.3". About the PS3, like Max said earlier in this thread, enable ATRAC on Settings. My PS3 can play music from my NW-S705F like a charm.
-
So true, even more so than the S70x series which is leagues better sound-wise in my opinion.
-
True, yesterday I went to the Sony Store here in Puerto Rico and both the S600 and S700 series are available for sale which means they are not yet being discontinued (at least not here).
-
Phew! That also happened to me using the original earphones, in less than 2 months one night the left channel's volume lowered while the right channel was fine. Unplugged the thing, reset the player and then the same problem was still there until 3 minutes later. The LC (left channel) hasn't given me any problems after that night. It fixed by itself....I think lol.
-
I have a little curiosity. How does these series sound compare with the S700 series? Do they sound the same or just a bit louder than the S700s?
-
I think it's the way Sony MP3 players organize music and because of the DRM on it. But you know, I think Sony can fix this with a firmware update that lets the PS3 access Walkman's (and every other Sony DAP) files...so who knows, guess we'll have to wait. Please note that I don't have a PS3 (maybe it already plays Walkman files I don't know), but I intend to get one this month if everything goes alright. Another nice thing would be if the PS3 would play ATRAC Advanced Lossless files.

My vote: 1st place: NW-E50x series (as AntiPod said) 2nd place: NW-S70x series 3rd place: NW-A80x series
