Hi guys, Can any-one please provide me with the root files from a NW-A1200/1000?? I mean the files that are on the devices HD when there's no music on it. I would really appreciate that!! thx in advance!! hope you can help me!

If you look closely you can see that it might be a TFT/LCD screen without the trasnreflective backlayer. If you remove that backlayer from a TFT/LCD screen (like PSP's one) you can see trough it too. Place this on a nice painting or print or something that can function as background, place some text and logo's with photoshop on it and you're done. I have a PSP LCD screen lying here and it looks pretty much the same in the shape and the way you can see trough it as the ''device'' in this add. edit: and you'll need a good camera too!! greetz

actually, PSP does have an EQ. But only with presets. so no custom EQ like the walkman series. BUT this doesn't mean PSP has bad SQ. Good SQ has nothing to do with EQ. But if you want much bass, or other special things PSP ain't your pick. hi, I have to agree that NW-S70x has way better soundquality then PSP. PSP does have a real clean and nice SQ, and a very good SNR!!!! But all in all NW-S70x series is better. greetz

I thought "S" stands for Sport. Since S70x and S20x both have sport features built-in. weird... greetz

well, I have a question that's on my mind since the release of this NW-A80x. I see that you own a NW-S706 too. How does the soundquality on the NW-A80x compare to that of the NW-S70x? I'm really curious about this. Does NW-A80x have Clearbass, Clearstereo, VPT, Dynamic normalizer?? thanks in advance!! greetz

have you tried to reinstall? what version do you have? try to download version 4.1 greetz

I'd like to mind you guys that early Netwrok walkmans with native MP3 support were not fair to this codec. Sony muffled the sound of MP3 and EQ etc. was not usable with MP3. So in that way it's not a very fair comparison. If I listen too MP3 and atrac3plus on my NW-S700 I barely notice difference. If I'm going to sit in a quiet room all alone, Yes then atrac sounds better. But in daily use it's really not noticable. Expecially if you use good MP3 encoders (LAME 3.97 for example) greetz

I think EQ is not a bad thing. I also work with audio equipment all the time and agree that EQ intruduces distortions. But sometimes I don't wanne be listeneing critically to my music ('cause I always hear something bad) and just enjoy it. Then I turn Up my EQ on my NW-S700. But that's because I use clearbass and I wanna get some more highs and mids then too. I also think that you have to approach every audio device individually. Every audio device has it's own manners and signature. On my NW-S700 I urn on the EQ but on my Creative Zen vision:M I don't use the bass boost, smart volume or EQ at all. Im very curious when NW-A80x are coming out here in Holland. And what they're gonna cost. Ipod nano 8GB costs around 250 euros here. so sony should aim for that imo. If we're talking about value for money I think sony and apple are both on the wrong way, allthough sony is doing significantly better. For example, Creaives Zen vision:M is going for 200 euros here at the moment. Yu'll get superb video support, audio, photo, radio, voice recorder, 30GB for that price!!. Ok, it's a HDD. Flash memory is costy, but if you don't care for flash it's a very good deal. Especially with the cometing ipod going for 80 euros more. greetz

well, NW-S700's sound is loud enough indeed. If you do experience differents between tracks you coul try the dynamic normalizer. Thsi works great for me. I have to say SQ and dynamics do suffer from Dynamic normalizing sometimes. greetz

well As I own both I can assure that SQ on NW-S70x series is way better. in terms of vividness and bass. Bass is way better, stereo seperation is better and in general overall SQ is better. S70x is the best MP3 player I've ever heard, and that's a serious statement, not from some guy who's just happy with his player. If capacity is not an issue I defenitely recommende sony NW-S70x greetz

samsung T9??? does it have decent SQ?? I have onwed a samung DAP and must say SQ did disappoint me... greetz

hi guys, as some of you might know I've solde my NW-A1200b to my little brother a few weeks ago. Well, today he dropped it out of'his pocket from a chair. The problem is that when you start it up it gets stuck on the ''good music, good day'' screen and you have to push the reset button to shut it down. I listened to the HDD and I think it's the HDD that's stuck.... I know NW-A1200 has G-protection. Could it have something to do with this? I hope any-one could help me!!! greetz

Hi guys, I know that SSC{ 4.3 is supposed to be fixed zo it would work on Vista? right? Weel, I've got a brand new laptop with Vista pre-installed on it. I installed SSCP 4.1 (wich came with my NW-S703FB and it workd smoothly so far... So what were the issues with SSCP 4.1 running on vista? I must say that Vista is annoying me since it needs to much from my PC so that I can't get the full potenial of My PC. Therefore I dualbooted Vista so that I can use them both. And on winXP my PC is really racing!!!! Vista is just too heavy, It's not fun anymore and its not practical to use... greetz

I think NW-HD series couldn't match up to good old MD. I swapped to HDD when NW-A series were introduced. They sound very well. BUT if you wan't even beter SQ, I should go for NW-S70x. They sound very good. You could also wait for NW-A80x. If I look up the specs they should have very good SQ too! I'd mind you that MD has a typical sound signaure of its own. If you wanna stick to that I'd advise you to get a Hi-MD unit. MZ-RH1 is a very good unit. It's the dream MD unit greetz

damn.... If this player really has better SQ than my NW-S703 I might have to get one..... didn´t expect that! Especially those response times are promising. I mean, an ipod is pretty fast. And this one is even fatser? should be great! If I judge upon the review, I think this will really be a good player! IF they get their marketing and pricings right...... The only thing I think ppl are going to complain about is the variety of software that has to be used. Ipod offers an all-in-one solution with itunes, so does creative an the zune too I think... I still think NW-S70x looks better, But as said, I haven´t seen NW-A80X in real life so maybe it´s pretty neath after all. I must say that the backside of my NW-A1200 felt a bit plasticy to me. But I guess it was metal ´cause it responded to temperatre changes quickly. overal it looks like a very good player.. especially that SQ has got me wondering......( I hope that they finally did something about the SNR. 84Db on NW-A1200 was just too low ) Can´t wait to see/hear one in real life!!! greetz

Wheter this unit is metal or plastic, i think it misses that special edge. It looks kinda cheap. I liked NW-A1xxx glossy surface, and NW-HDx metal casings. But the back of my NW-A1200 looks and feels kinda plastic. So NW-A80x looks just too cheap for me. The real sony look is fading away imho. NW-S70x combines the two best designs of sony in the last years: Glossy black surface with unvisible screen and true metal body with chrome look. So allthough NW-A80x looks like the best DAP in its class to me, I'll never be considering it. But sony could really get a piece of the ipod with this if they get their marketing right. 'cause it's not the best sony has to offer imho, but its surely the best the market has to offer at the time. greetz

personally I think sony is going a step back with this player. I always loved Sony DAPs for their exclusiveness. They were never like the rest. They always had something special. Like metal casings, shiny finish, unvisible screens, VPT, lightener sized players with an overload of style.. I could go on for a ling while. NW-A800 is just folowing the masses. Video support, Photo support, LCD colour screen. It's still special in a way, it's design, it's GUI, it's functions... but it's plastic like the mass (at leat what I've heard here ). So it's still a sony, but a bit moren ''standard''. So far NW-S700 is my favourite Network Walkman from sony! greetz

WTF?! Plastic? No metal? shame on you sony!! I must say that SQ on S700 series is really superb! BUT, I think it's a big shame that the SNR is sooo low. I own an Creative Zen vision:M with a 97Db SNR. I really love that. It sounds sooo clear and natural. It's sweet!!! Sony should add this to their Walkmans too! I bet they'll sound twice as good!! greetz

I'm in some way considering all walkmans. But I don't plan on buying this one. I think sony players have great SQ. Better than Cowon players. But I'm very happy with my NW-S703 for the moment. I think this is the best Walkman so far (except for the MiniDisc walkmans). NW-A800 is just for keeping up with the masses who all want video playback. I don't follow the masses. I just care about SQ and nice features and design. I think NW-S700 series has it all. So unless NW-A800 drops drastically in price I'm not buying one. greetz

well, sony is indeed doing fine, but they could do better. PS3 is going strong. It´s a great machine and they´ll surely get profits from it. people eventually will buy it, only beacuase it´s a playstation. It´s not innovative though. it´s just upgrading from an other product, just like MS did with the XBOX. It´s one hell of an upgrade, but there´s nothing that you couldn´t imagine before. Don´t get me wrong, i think PS3 is amazing. I do think that sony is thinking wrong when it comes to PS3 as media machine. They´re trying to connect it with PSP, walkmen etc. But not every-one owns a walkman or psp. And not every-one wants all those features in their machine. I think it´s a fault that many companies make. Everything has to be multimedia these days. Why?! PS3 is a great game machine, But don´t try to make more of it then it´s supposed to be. So I think it´s a cute idea, but sony has to watch out that they´re not going to bet too much money on these features. Walkmans.......well what do I say...I just love them...But sometimes I get the idea I´m the only one. I know exactly ONE person that own a walkman.....Most others own Ipods, creatives etc. For me sony is doing fine..NW-A800 has many sound related features wich I love, But for for most people it just won´t do. Ease of use could be way better... with superscroll, some kind of scroll-wheel, touchpad or something like that. Drop SSCP. I don´t care if they made it a MTP device. At least you can drag n drop your music. They´ll have more customers. and last but not least, marketing. Let people Know what you´re offering. Hang posters on every corner, radio commercials and TV commercials. Try to get one line in the walkman range. People seem to like it. ipods look the same since the very first. NW-A800 looks similar to NW-A!200 etc... so they´re going t wright direction. but it could be tighter...better. So that when people see one they´ll immediately know by the looks that it´s a walkman. and try to lower the prices. Lower price means more sales. Sonyericsson is doing good. They release very good and strong phones. I think their branding is very good. Cybershot an Walkman phones leave very good impressions. They just have to get a better hold of the low-end products. nokia and samsung are doing way better here. They could also try to make more stylish models an make use of high quality materials like metals and carbon. They could be more innovative. I think many of their current models look rather toyish... If I look at nokia, I se that they offer models that look classy and stylish. My favourite example: nokia 6131. Simpel, easy, classy yet powerfull and cheap. So I think SE is the est part of sony at the moment, but they could do a lot better too. So all in all sony won´t be crushed, but they have a long way to go before they can sit back and relax. greetz

well guys, i´ve been playing around with the Zen for two weeks now. i can now give a real final conclusion. after all, time always tells! The zen has proved itself a great companion for on the road. A said, it´s soundquality really amazes me. It beats NW-A1200 easily! hands down. It´s much clearer and a bit wider I guess. It´s somehow more natural too. It´s a real good DSP creative put in there. Also the ease of use is fantastic. All in all really great device. Freat replacement for my NW-A1200. But... There´s still some little shiny stylish looking thing lying right beside me at the moment...... and if you get things right and take the time...it blows you away. Yes, I´m talking ´bout my NW-S703. At first I thought NW-S703 and Zen came very close to each other for SQ. If I test it for a whole week, comparing with Files and settings and everything... I have to say that NW-S703 is just many leagues better. It´s just that Zen has very clear and comfy sound. The Zens 97 Db SNR is really an advantage. It´s the ONE AND ONLY THING I miss on NW-S703. I know it sounds weird ´cause I said they were close at first, but I guess I was surprised about Zens clear and natural comfy sound. let me explain in other ways: The Zen gives You optimal SQ when you´re in daily business, doing stuff, traveling, at school, at work, during work-out etc.. It´s just you every day companion. And it will always deliver A very, very comfortable sound! So the zen is like an enjoyable busy week.......When you enjoy the things you´re doing, and lead a pleasantly busy life. The NW-S703 on the other hand ives you that special sound. Wide sound image, With deep feelings and a very peacefull experience. You wanna crumble away in a little corner of the room, away from everything.. and You´ll be left with just a world of music. Your own music. It´s everywhere, nothing but your music. Close your eyes and drift away... So NW-S703 is in that case more like a rainy sunday morning in mid-winter..... When you wanna stay in bed together with your wife or girlfriend the whole day.. doing nothing, just loving each other and don´t think about anything. Just leaving life as it is for a moment... Thee are my final feelings about them tow DAP´s. Hope You can understand it a bit...... greetz
