  5. Hey Backlight , I am on a Mac book , Stereo to Stereo 1/8 cable , and Audacity , also download the LAME MP3encoder to install to Audacity(Check my profile an e-mail me I will guide you thru it , SKYPE , MSN Messenger , iChat your choice.) I like the R55 too , its a good unit. You do have Manual rec level control you know. Hold the Rec button in for a couple of seconds while paused , and the rec menu will come up .
  6. Just tell me what your looking for , Ill ship it, next week I will start a post with some pics. I will call it the "S.D.T.C.S. " post Right now the Recycle shop Hardoff , (All over Japan) is loaded with MD's and recording gear , the digital revolution has (as I have mentioned before) sparked a new case of "New Itis" There are TWO Yamaha MD 4 Track recorders for 39 dollars at this one Music store I go to . No MD Data discs to be found. Come spend a week in Japan ,I will be the tour guide , youll have to have a seperate airplane to get stuff back. Hey Ray , ALL the 4 trackers use type 2 tapes , if you use type 1 you'll ruin the machine and the sound will suck.Type 2 uses a harder smoother Cobalt Chromium alloy in the coating , Captures a much better signal. But the Oxides and softer coating of the type1 tapes clog the heads and magnetize the heads faster , wearing out the coils inside the Rec/Heads. I am not even supposed to playing these Japanese tapes in it , but I will get a demagger this week for the machine.
  7. Larry , I have actually listened to your station on more than a few occasions , it is the only way I can keep my sanity living in a foreign country. I live in an area where my only source of english is listen to the internet radio. know that people like you will be sorely missed , and if you ever feel so inclined e-mail me some music , hook up with me on Skype or something. Thx for what you did do ..... live365 was cool
  8. Yesterday I got a Tascam 424 ( The original edition 1987/88 or so ) It had never been used ????????? The heads were as clean as a Supermodels teeth, I dont know If I can say I "Bought it" the music store basically gave it to me 980¥ ,.... thats like 9 bucks ! It works perfectly , I am copying my " Japanese For Everyone " Tapes to MD with it, using the EQ to clean up the audio, and it sounds really good.( Not using the DBX of course) the specs state on Line in Recording with DBX engaged you can get a S/N of 95 db , same day I find a store that actually has CR/02 Type2 tapes in stock ..... go figure
  9. Big ... Sounds like you got the point , I have been very subtely trying to get that across . ANY new artist will have to be on an INDePENDANT label , which means almost NO promotion , Which means NOONE hears you , and NOTHING sells, exept the GARBAGE that the conglamerate will have yu listen to . in Japan it is AVEX Trax . If you arent of a certain genre , or of a certain Look and sound , forget it , no contract. If the RIAA could , they would find a way to charge you FOR PLAYING YOUR OWN MUSIC ( If your on one of there lablels , they already do) No need to ask " Whats for lunch " it will be the same thing from now on ............
  10. All the Olympus Models record in WMA format , straight to Windows Media Player, Only a few of them at the moment go to WAV but universal MP3 is better than WMA most Audio editing progs can read MP3 , but none of them read WMA , has to go thru conversion first
  11. I noticed that the crowd was louder than you (on the MD file), which means that the mic wasnt close enough to the stage, If you want perfect audio of yur voice , put the MD in a pocket and use a Lapel mic ,then mix that audio with the stereo feild audio from the Camera , in iMovie(Im on a macbook) Just import the audio track as an extra or background track , lower the level (or raise,)of the Video track to matck the MD track then export the mix. Good routine that was pretty funny . " 5 Tape VHS changer " ROTF Couldnt have the whole vid could I ?
  12. go to Grisoft and download AVG it will be the best bet as far as AntiVirus goes , especially on a Hyperthreaded machine, AVG in concert with Spybot search and destroy is the best combo there is for XP
  13. I havent gotten my hands on it yet , but from what I have read , in close range the quality is pretty good ( 1 meter distance) apparently freq response is about 80- 17khz on the mics and S/N is about 67-68. But it has plugin power for external mics and variable rec level control. So Zoom , is probably using some of the same tech , and just packaging it differently
  14. I drop a cd's worth of Alan Parsons on a Disc it reads fine ( when I klik display it shows it as LP2 mode) weird
  15. The R55 doesnt do USB it is only Analouge or Optical , no USB . Do not confuse USB with Digital .the Fibre optic cable your using with the PS 2 is the best way to do what your doing . USB doesnt start until you get to the NetMD MD player/Recorders . Other than that ,it is the RH1 If you decide to step up I would like to get the R55 from you I miss mine . It blew up on me .
  16. Up until the R50 I think that was a problem , the R50 onwards 80 's work ok I use em on my R50
  17. Two Models of the Sanyo Diply Talk , voice recorders 2007 catalouge ( I just picked it up today) Have PCM Recording ,MP3 recording , and the proprietary format as well , The freq response on the PCM recording is quoted as 40-20khz , on the Highest bit rate MP 3 it is quoted at 40-15khz http://www.akiba-gadgets.com/?p=201
  18. http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=18866 klik that download the file on the first post , read thourougly . Take two aspirin call me in the morning , Doctors Orders.
  19. Most Voice recorders are just that , Limited frequency response , and Highly compressed low quality recording , they are getting better , but the models that are of resonable quality are of not so reasonable cost . The MD will in the Long run and on a broader scale give a lot more bang for the buck ( Think of all the freinds with CD's that you dont have but would like to have a copy of ) that alone justifies the cost of the MD recorder , ad a Decent mic then your on to Concert and field recording. Your voice recorder just doesnt come close to the options that MD gives you . The MZ-R55 is a great unit , I miss mine, I still have the R50 which is the best one Sony made ( aside from the very first one , which is in its own class just for starting the Digital revolution) The RH1 is the current Miracle but it is expensive (Yes I have one) and it gives you all the goodies. But for interviews see if you can find a MZ-B10 , it has a built in Mic (Mono) but it has Line In , and Optical Input as well as a Stereo Mic input , It just doesnt have manual recording level control .
  20. The next time I go to Akiba I will take some pics of the Tube shop and post them
  21. Just tried the ECM with the RH1 , I Love the way the Plug is offset , and sits over the remote's plug then the sound is so very different from the AT-822 , they each have a different character , The ECM is very warm and doesnt get as much in the ambient whereas the AT-822 Is a little too wide sometimes. Very happy with both though yes that addiction , I was supposed to working on the house but I had money in my pocket , .........
  22. Went to HardOff again today , and I found a Sony ECM 959a (Unused still had the original packing and Battery)for 7,500 yen. Also a Fostex Tetramix MN04 mixer for 3,500 yen and old Sony Tape Deck WM-FX811 for 800 yen
  23. Hey Frank , I can appreciate your delimma , and understand your frustration, No MD isnt "Pushed " but If you go to a Major electronics , as well as most smaller Electronic stores they will order what you want . Use the net to get the Info , and print out what you want . Take that to a Shop and ask them to order it . Practically none of them Stock it , but they will get it. Pay no attention to SUper Bald guy , it is clear that the sun has gotten to his head .
  24. You have no Idea what your talking about , "nd gen iPod nano and iPod video have Stereo mic attachments available thru Belkin and several other vendors that allow them to do 16 bit 44.1 stero WAV recording thru both Line in and stereo mic in as well as the Mic built into the attachment . I am a Hater of iPods , an Owner of Macintosh , an seek any other way to do something that iPod does. http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/italk/ http://www.nextag.com/ipod-microphone/search-html http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage...oduct_Id=169368 http://www.xtrememac.com/ http://www.cybersoc.com/2007/01/micromemo_recor.html http://www.macnewsworld.com/story/55771.html http://www.slipperybrick.com/2007/01/ipod-nano-microphone/ A general iPod Mic search will yield over 4 million results , in 2.7 seconds , which means that you are a few seconds off the beat eh?
