  1. Oh ok , gotcha . I have never used SS, Although I know it will load under Parrallels for Mac. I havent done it .
  2. They just Updated Audacity to 1.33beta , The update read me , say the list list of improvement included a "Vastly Improved Noise reduction system" It needed some work I have downloaded but wont get to use it for a week or so. I wish some of you guys lived around here , .....BBQ and House building party . GOD I NEED SOME HELP!!!!!!!!!
  3. When you load from PCM into SS what does it do ? Since I am on a Mac I might be in the Drak on the Windows side of things about SS , so forgive me. On the Mac side even if it is in HIlp mode it gets converted and loaded as a Wav file so that it will go straight into an Audio editor,( can you see the conflict there ?????? They encrypt the crap out of it on one side then completely open it on the other !!!!!)
  4. I went to an Electronics shop yesterday , and asked about their MD stock , They told me Sony MD was no longer going to be stocked , there were only 6 left on the shelf , the Home systems would still be there but to portables were being replaced by the MP3 , and flash Atrac products
  5. Sounds like a TOC error , when you stop the recorder (after recording) you cannot move it or jostle it at all untill it has written the TOC and come to a stop. a Complete stop. If The recorder gets vibration or movement , when it is writing the contents , it will cause TOC errors (Table Of Contents, which includes the liscensing info) That is the area where you have to be extra carefull with MD , not like Flash recorders, which have no moving parts, Think of the disc inside the RH1 as a small hardrive , Basiclly it is a MO disc , when your drive is running , you do NOT want to be moving it . See what I mean ? Erase the disc , and try it again , You can CARRY the recorder around while it is recording , it is just when you hit the stop button , for the next few moments the whole world needs to stop for you ,no movement . Watch the screen it will go thru two stages "Data Saving" then "System File Writing" then the screen will go dark and the machine will come to a stop.
  6. I brought the subject up a few months ago , and stated that I had inside info , from one of my guitar students who was teaching english in the engineering section of Sony , That one of the engineers said to him he felt VERY strongly that the RH1 was the last portable they were going to make. It appears to be taking shape . We will have to wait and see eh? I kliked the link for the RH1 on the website It said in big RED letters " We are sorry , the Product you requested is no longer available"
  7. Yeah but PCM gets converted to Atrac, on the Mac it all gets converted to Wav , so a PCM file doesnt change at all (which is the optimum choice ) and as that it doesnt , it represents a chance for violations, because digital is digital , and inumerable copies can be made at that quality. So that show the difference between Mac and Windows , the audio quality of the Mac Core audio is straight up studio grade audio. So they put the design restriction in the program . I will eventually figure out a way around it.
  8. Welcome to the DRM /SCMS nightmare, I am also on a Mac ....Second gen Optical copies are forbidden, period , no matter what the source is. If you record from line in ,you still get a Nice wav file ( that is Sony's way around Copyright Laws, while still imposing them ) I had a CD that I made on the Macbook , put it in a seperate CD Player , tried to make an optical copy to the RH1 , no dice. I have Live as well. In order to sell in other Countries or to have an international market Sony has to abide by EVERYONES copyright laws, which differ from Country to Country. So to avoid Lawsuits of ANY kind ,and to have to market open to them , this is what they have to do , because it is classed as a "Consumer Product" not Pro Audio ( the taxation is different.) To bolster this thought , on the first MD recorder, which I have one, you have Optical in AND out , and its the ONLY portable sony made that does. they stopped very soon after because of Copyright violation possibilties. sux doesnt it.
  9. I just watched the video on Bias Peak LE , very nice program , definately need to save up for that one. It is a must have http://www.bias-inc.com/downloads/videos/peakLe5/movie.php
  10. A set that I couldnt resist was on sale at Ishibashi Music store, A Bellari Tube Mic Pream , W/ Seide PCme Large diaphram condenser mic and shockmount 20,000 yen ( 200 dollars)
  11. A Small Battery powered mixer and three small mics , 1 in the dish , two outside the dish, in a Y configuration everything on a Bar mount spread out 18 inches , and mounted on a Tripod or pistol grip . Thereby you have gain control and balance control to give you not only a great stereo image , but the Object or focal point can be brought clearly into focus and blended properly with the stereo field, everything mixes down to 1 recorder in stereo. Rolls has such mixers , as well as Radio Design Labs Inc. here is one .... http://www.rolls.com/products/mx54.php and another..... http://www.rolls.com/products/mx124.php and another.... http://www.rolls.com/products/mx422.php all very nice field mixers that run on Battery , have phantom power , etc
  12. ROTF LMAO ,,,, awwwww Booj , ....well , If you ever move to Seattle at least uo would have Coffee to go with the rain.
  13. Digital stuff is allergic to you ......Stay analouge!!!!!!
  14. I am sitting at the Apple Store , with my NEW Macbook Pro 2.16Ghz Core2Duo Processer w/2Gb Memory YAY! Now some on give me a job so I can pay back the 3000 dollars
  15. #1 MD didnt exist in the 80's , the first one was intro to the US in 1992 ( I own it ) the SONY MZ-1 #2 I am Glad you love MD , You have been saved from aquiring G.A.S. #3 Pearl Jam??????????, ,,,,,,No Rush , Dream Theater , Pink Floyd, Kansas, Boston, Bad Company, Yes, Amos Lee, Molly Hatchet , GFR, CSN,or AlanParsonsProject, Jethro Tull, Rainbow, Or the plethora of other Music........ Good music, that was before the MD and deserves to be preserved? #4 What part of VA?
  16. I did clarify it , Once you convert a WAV file to mp3 you have killed it .The MP3 is what it is A crunched up over half of data deleted sound file . you DO NOT want to convert an mp3 to wav , all you will get is a noisy wav . make a seperate folder for wav files (external HDD) put the mp3 on the main drive. the RH1 plays mp3 as they are , no need to convert.
  17. You had to say Bronze , Made me think of all the Lee Nielson tools that were stolen from me when I moved to Japan I had a Gorgeous collection
  18. ECM 959a has a 90 position and a 120 position ( narrowing the stereo field) and is an M/S configured mic which means the stuff in front of the mic will get more attention at the 90degree setting, and will have a nice ambient at the 120 setting . It is less output than the AT 822 , and also Darker , the AT 822 is Bright and airy and gets ALOT of the ambient . the 959 is very good for voice , and the cable length is just about right . Freqs on the 959 are 30 - 18khz or so and it is fairly quiet just my two cents
  19. Dude , the RH1 uses MD Transfer 2.0 on the mac , not SonicStage. MD Transfer is two button simple. Anything you record in HiMD Mode whether it be in HILP ,HiSP, or PCM will be uploaded as a WAV file Download "Switch " (Switch Plus you have to pay for , plain Switch is a Freebie) use Switch to convert instead of Itunes. ( that way you can Keep the stuff seperate from ITunes, and just drag what you want ie. finished products ,instead of stuff your still working on.) You can drag MP3's into MD transfer and load them to the rH1 as is , no need to convert them .( you wouldnt want to once you have converted something to mp3 you have erased not compressed over half the data, it isnt recovereable) Just read my stats at the bottom , on a Macbook soon to get the Pro ...Next month YAY!
  20. If they are wma , use Switch (It is also available for windows ) It doesnt give a crap about the DRM it wont be there after the Conversion. it will convert from wma to mp3 or wave whatever you set it up for . bit rates and all. That is my experience with Switch , I download Wma to my Mac , then Use switch so I can play it Because I dont have Windows Media on the Mac .
  21. But the Idea is the MD'ers dont want the MD to "Evolve" we just want it to work . There are inumerable flash rcorders out there now , some VERY good ones at that . MD is Tangible, Tactile , If I were to ask for an "Evolution" it would be that they go back , rebuild the MZ-1 ( there very first one) And make it HiMD , with a little better editing built in . And tiny balanced TRS inputs with good preamps in them Optical in/out Line in/out ( on the same jacks) The normal Stereo Mic input with plug in Power w/ a three position switch 0db-10db-20db pad Two TRS Mic inputs with 12 volts phantom power HiMD AA Battery pack, instead of that Lithium block (switchable, and voltage set to use rechargables) I would want it in the SAME big fat body with the weight and all.
  22. I will agree with that Wiz , I know a lot of Japanese people , and Like Japan exept for a few things that REALLY stick out like a sore thumb . This is a Society that thinks of itself as Elegant and Sophisticated , yet treats its women as possesions not people. I have seen some very interesting things here , IE ... stand in the train station long enough you will see and old woman or old man fall down, trip on the stairs , etc. and actually hurt themselves ......and noone will stop to help him/her...........but if you make a single step towards that person to help , then they will push you out of the way to get to him/her If however it is a foreigner who falls , there will be ten people there immediately regardless as to there being injury or not. You would have to live here awhile to see all of the stuff I speak of , but this is what happens EVERYDAY . there are some messed up Ideas in the culture. The first Idea is that they ARE Cultured, .....They have History , but being Cultured is a different thing altogether . They do NOT understand the world around them . The image of the world around them is a Hollywood image , not one of reality.( I am speaking about the populace as a whole, this holds true among almost ALL Native Japanese people ) Come to Harajuku sometime to watch the Elvis groups , or the Harajuku girls , everything here is a fantasy .....just google Harajuku, in Images, see what you get
  23. Rich I live in Japan and have a little better perspective of the two faced nature of certain aspects of Japan and Japanese Business. First off Sony will deny knowing anything ,( because they would lose face ) but the truth is nobody does ANYTHING for or with Sony , without their absolute knowledge of what is going on , If you have never been involved in negotiations with a Japanese business you just wouldnt understand . Every single detail is triplecated , annotated, stipulated, castigated upon untill there is nothing left of it . Sony knew exactly what was going on . There is no question of it.
  24. What Format are the E-Books in? could they be converted to mp3 or atrac? For the Mac there is a small free prog called Switch , and it does just that , whatever you throw at it it will cconvert it . http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html This gets used daily
  25. No , the RH1 is a Portable machine designed for the CAPTURING of audio not the editing of it . It does have editing funtions , and with the 40elk remote they are usable , but not micro adjustable.
