  1. When they cannot make money in one market they send it where they can , so as that MP3 player have taken over and Flash Recorders are the new standard the MD's get sent to third world markets , or Outlets that buy them in bulk , so Shelf space for new stuff can be made .

    Taking a risk

Gab , the Sound of MD , is still an ear tingling sensation with a good pair of phones . I have about 20 different Recorders , from Vintage very first Model made , all the way to the Last one the RH1 . If your not in dire need of all the Functions of the iTouch , and just want Good music , then it is not a risk ( battery life of the iPod is about 3 years , then it must be replaced at a cost of about half what you paid for the iPod ) by contrast , my MZ-R50 lasted over 10 years faithful service, My MZ-R700 lasted 6 before I sold it and it was STILL going strong when I sold it, Many here who have the MZ-1 first model , that still works records and Plays , Mine no longer records , but will still play ( that is a 16 year old unit still working ) The interaction of sound , and tactile sensation of the disc mechanism , the whir and click , and just the feel of the Player in your hand tells you it is a work of art . That is how we who use MD feel about them , ......... You got your feet wet , because you had one , but if the water felt good ,... why not Jump in for a swim ???
  3. 22 !! right on ! ....... I think a lot of people here are in the double digits , but the 20 and above crowd is quite a bit thinner
  4. At Yodobashi there were N920 's , ............... Silver , Pink , and Blue at the other place , these were not 920's , Like I said it was a quick pass , and I need to get a pic , but I am pretty sure it was R series and not N @ Bland1000 , right on the N920 The others I saw were older R910's ,...... My Bad . ( 910's still siting on the shelf ) but they are gone now as well
  5. ROTFLOL Bear Bones ,....... BBQ'd or , Slow stewed ????
  6. I just went there and the listing for the RH1's is suspicious , they would have to be Used , or refurbs for that price plus they show the same pic for each
  7. I will have to get a Pic of it , The only Non HiMD still being made I think , Except for the MZ-B10 ( But I think it is done as well just cant confirm that ) it is similar to the MZN 920 , but I think it might be a Japan only model . it is about 25,000 yen MD LP , NetMD , capable that might be why there is no browser info . If I get some I will post it

I went to Akiba today and spent ALL DAY , in Akiba store to store , every floor , hidden back alley , well known , Pro Audio , every place I know MD Is Dead ......... there are EH 50's at a few places but no EH-70's nor will there be , at Yodobashi Akiba 4th floor there are two 929's an RH1 , and three EH-50's and there wont be anymore when they are gone . at most stores , I saw Walls of iPods , and displays of Network Walkman's , but in every place I went , MD was Gone . There is one NH3D hidden on the 2nd floor of a Place I know , 28,000 yen. But in every store I asked about MD , they will not order anymore , it is OVER . The Paradigm Shift is completed , and the Digital connection of EVERYTHING to the Computer or Internet , has been Made . There wasn't a single new device that wasnt somehow a Connected device . Anything I will be able to do for the MDCF from here will be Used , and from Hardoff , I will not be able to get anything else from this point New . unless you want an EH-50 .................. there are a total of four 929's that I know where they are , Pink and BLUE There are a few RH1's and ONE , ........ NH3d at Akihabara .. the CAPITOL of Denkiland and Geekdom , iPod has taken over , I have Never SEEN so Many iPods , in every store , a WALL of iPods at Shibuya Labi ( Yamada Denki ) a HUGE wall , nothing but iPods , and hidden in another room up side steps , Sony Network Walkmans Yodobashi ,..... iPods , Network Walkmans , Cowan . Isimaru , Sofmap , everywhere ,Dos Paras , Tocara Audio , even the shops run by the Turkish guys , MD was Gone ( well there were two Sharps , I didnt get the Models though) There should have been Hundreds of MD's scattered throughout Akiba ........ but it was a Fish picked clean , all bones with just a Hint of anything left under the Jawline but that is all the New
  15. Well the discussion is probably mute at this point , I went to Akihabara today , and spent the entire day looking for a MZ-EH70 for someone on the boards . Md is officially dead , I have never seen so many iPods , entire walls of the inside of most store nothing but iPods , and displays of Sony Network Walkman DAP's At Yodobashi Akiba , there is this list , an RH1 , EH-50's in three colors , two MZ-n920's that is it . Iwent to almost every store in the entire Akihabara region ,all floors. Even went to a Sony distribution place , they had ,.......Eh-50 , and RH1 and I asked about ordering the EH-70 .direct from SOny ,. Negative . this is straight from Sony . from 10 am to 6PM store to store searching , backstreets , hidden secret places , every spot I know . I did find one New NH3D though , and I have a pic of it . three people are waiting for it .
  16. Have you actually seen the Battery in the iPod ??? they are WAY bigger than the RH1 battery , the RH1 battery ONLY has 370 ma Capacity , VS 2000 ma capacity or better of the iPod so to take 370 ma and make it last as long as it does on the RH1 , considering all the tasks it is performing at its voltage level is a Marvel To take well over 2000 ma ,and make it last 30 plus hours of JUST playing audio with no moving parts , or control systems integration , and laser management focus controls , bit decoding , or anything of the same nature . to make that statement means you just do not understand electronics ................. 36 hour on a huge capacity battery is NOT a magic feat ........ 12 -15 hours on 370 ma 's with all the Management systems involved ........ IS
  17. Define : "Docket" if by that you mean Power supply ( Black box with cables) that is easily replaceable with a Cell phone USB wall wart ( if it says Willco it will work) If you mean the connection in the RH1 itself ( the USB Connector or Jack on the back of the RH1 ) if THAT is broken it will need to be replaced by someone who knows how to do that . Not for amatuers . there are many ways to Power the RH1 ,....... we here at the MDCF have tried them ALL , believe me ......... And lastly " Welcome to the Minidisc Community " dozo , yoroshiku onagaishimasu .
  18. That would explain a lot about battery life , why they are struggling to get it better , 30 vs 5 is a pretty big difference . And Why push 30 mw , of Not so great sound ,?? Louder = Better ???? not in my book .
  19. nope Digital S/PDIF outputs: Optical and coax digital connections Dedicated high-precision crystal oscillators (no PLL, no resampling) Standard IEC-958 (S/PDIF) encoding Optical connector: TOSLINK 660nm Coax connector: RCA, 500mVpp into 75 ohms Sample rates: 44.1Khz, 48Khz Audio format: linear PCM, 16 or 24 bits per sample Intrinsic jitter: less than 50ps (standard deviation) no encoder .........
  20. The top of the case is still sparkly even ...........

  23. Read this news article http://www.pressrepublican.com/0100_news/l..._278220015.html what does this say about MUSIC , she had a sketch in her NOTEBOOK and got detained , hell we cant even DRAW stuff anymore .?!!??!?!?!?!?!? Keene artist had hard time getting back into US By LOHR McKINSTRY Staff Writer October 05, 2008 04:00 am — KEENE VALLEY -- Keene Valley resident Jerilea Zempel was detained at the U.S. border this summer because she had a drawing of a sport-utility vehicle in her sketchbook. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers told Zempel they suspected her of copyright infringement. She was released after more than an hour in custody at the Houlton, Maine, port of entry from New Brunswick, Canada. Her release came only after she persuaded border guards she was an artist doing a project that involved a crocheted SUV as a statement against America's dependence on oil and love for big vehicles. SHROUDED CAR Zempel's adventure began when she was returning from the Cultural Capital Festival in Sackville, New Brunswick, where her submission was an SUV cozy on a rented Hyundai Santa Fe. "I wanted to turn an oversize, macho, gas-guzzling vehicle into a technological ghost by shrouding it in a white, fuzzy cover reminiscent of women's handiwork from another time, another place." After the festival, Zemple headed for home in her own Toyota Prius hybrid and stopped at the border crossing on Interstate 95 in Maine. "What happened when I re-entered the U.S. made me ponder what my lowly art project could mean in a larger political sphere. "And it gave me an idea for a title: the Homeland Security Blanket." SEARCH AT BORDER Zempel's passport showed she'd been to Africa, Australia, Central and South America, Mexico, Turkey and Europe in the last nine years. "U.S. citizens who've traveled to the places I've been need to be looked at. A half hour at the computer gave the agent cause to put me into another suspicious category, meriting a full car search. She (the agent) took my keys and went through my car. "After going through my (laptop) computer, digital camera, cell phone, business cards, suitcase, reading materials, boxes of yarn and crochet tools, she returned with my sketchbook. "I was taken to a room and told to sit on a bench with handcuffs at both ends. But they did not handcuff me." SUV SKETCH Zempel had drawn an SUV covered by a cozy, with its mirrors marked as "ears." "My sketchbook puzzled her," Zempel said. "It was a cartoon sketch. They couldn't understand what I was doing. She said, ?Just what were you doing in Canada? We think you're engaged in some kind of copyright infringement." She said she and the CBP agent then had a "lively discussion" over Zempel's status as an artist and a professor at Fordham University in New York City. "I had to spell Fordham for her. She left the room to see if she could find me on the college's Web site." While she was out, Zempel found her college ID and showed it to the agent when she came back. "Somehow being a college professor made it all OK. She said, ?Welcome back to the U.S.' I was allowed to leave." CIVIL RIGHTS Zemple said that before the incident she didn't know border guards could search computers and other digital devices "without reasonable cause ... I was surprised to learn all your civil rights are suspended. It was a form of intimidation." U.S. Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) recently introduced a bill that would prevent Customs and Border Protection officials from conducting border searches and seizures of laptops and other electronic devices when U.S. citizens return from international travel unless the agents have justifiable reason to do so. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Theodore Woo said he could not discuss the specifics of the interview process Zempel went through. "CBP officers may, at times, inspect a person's belongings to determine whether or not items are admissible or are illegal." Woo didn't say how a sketch of a car could trigger a border guard's suspicion of copyright infringement. But he did say agents are trained in trademark and copyright laws. "It's a part of a CBP officer's training. Time is set aside for intellectual-property-rights training." The agency's role is to keep the country's borders safe while at the same time enforcing many rules and regulations, he said. "If somebody brings in artwork, it's not necessarily the artwork but (whether) it's intended for a specific use, such as a commercial nature. It doesn't mean the drawings themselves are bad, but what they'll be used for." He said Customs and Border Protection is in more than 300 ports of entry and processes 1.5 million people a day. "We appreciate passengers that appreciate we have a job to do. We stress that our officers are professional." Zempel said that even as she was being questioned, the border officer "was very cheerful. She was very pleasant." The problem, Zempel said, is "I wasn't doing anything suspicious. I was doing something unpredictable." lmckinstry@pressrepublican.com Info Box
