They said that they were transfering everyone to VEOH , , the problem with that is VEOH hosts all kinds of different formats , and they want you to download there own player , which I am not so sure about
-
That is interesting , sounds like they are going to drop the "minidisc " part of the moniker , they are setting new anchors in the water . MD ........... Just keep in touch with me Bob . If I see something interesting and shippable I will let you know.

ooops , 6 am here , and havent finished my Coffee!!!

Yeah that unit was an MD SP mode only , it was replaced with the 500 ( which was also SP only ) still a nice deck though, it just might not be what your looking for , if you want Lnp play mode units , you have to make sure it has "MDLP" marked on the face of the unit . you can check the equipment browser for info on most units , it isnt complete , but has good pix , and a fair amount of info , so you can buy with a little more info in hand . http://minidisc.org/equipment_browser.html

#3 loop and all of the above that fall into #3 catagory ,............Keep the CD player . The loop sections are involved to setup , the wake time , and isnt what your looking for , Record /Playback .....Not exactly "Instant " You have to hit the Record button twice to start recording ( first time is Record standby , so you can set levels) A/B loop is great , but isnt instant , You can set exact points in a song to loop from ( which means you can MAKE a set of loops by recording each loop to another machine or into the computer with Audacity , then take the loops and drop them to a CD , then you will have random access loops, ready for punch in ) Sound quality of any recording device Starts at the inputs , ... that being said , the Tascam sounds FAT , they are aiming for the original Analouge Tascam signature sound , and it isnt far off , the Mic 2 input is quite nice , I am being pleasantly surprised by it each time I try something new . The line input is noise free , you set the level by adjusting the volume on whatever unit your recording FROM , Some people might have issues with that , but I understand why they did it after playing with it . Any extra control functions require processing power and /or space and circuitry which can and will degrade the signal path . The line input goes direct to a Buffer then the A/D converter , so there is nothing in the way ,............. Beautiful in my opinion , and the stated 90db S/N I think is conservative , it is quiet again my ONLY gripe is the Mic1 input stage , I used a little Sony MX10L portable mixer that runs on a 9 volt battery , and comes out Mic level , ( 1/8 in stereo output) and it sounds a lot better , so there are workarounds . So ,........ could you use it live , ....... yes , but it would be a bit tricky ...... would it replace the CD player , No , with the CD player you have immediate file swapping by just changing CD's , the Tascam has to take a little time to register the files( not much but it is there)

on the TC 465 , you dont have Bias Adjustment , but at least Tape selection , on Tapes like the Hardcastle , Which is probable in Cobalt (doesnt the Tape itself look reealy dark , with almost a Blueish tint , instead of brown ?) just use the Cr2O2 tape setting , or Metal Tape setting . Only use the Dolby on tapes that you yourself recorded , and recorded in Dolby , the Studio Master of Production Tapes in in Dolby "S" not "B" and the Production Tapes that you actually get , are NOT encoded the same way , just that Copy machines are of very high quality so there isnt much extra noise added. so Production Tapes = tap selection (Norm,Cr2O2, Metal) your Tapes done with dolby , use dolby the 465 has Dolby B and C , those are two very different birds , Encoding with Dolby C when your recording gives much more natural results , but must be played back with Dolby C

I just spent 3 1/2 hours , with my guitar and the DR1 . My Setup is this : #1 a Soundboard Transducer inside the guitar #2 A K&K sound Systems Pure Preamp , with the internal gain set low and the external volume used to balance the input the Mic 2 of the DR1 #3 an EBow #4 My Yamaha Headphones #5 a Planet Waves Slide I went thru all the effects , and different levels of effect , different tunings on the guitar , recorded about 35 minutes of different stuff as one long file. then I engaged the "Monitor " function , and put my guitar back in standard tuning , ......played back the file , and used the slide , the ebow , different effects , playing along with the file . I dont think I have had this much fun with a gadget in a LOOOOONG time , the sound is absolutely pristine thru Mic2 and the effects are JUST enough , and not over the top . every musician needs to get one of these . just for the Mic2 input alone , the DR1 rocks , absolutley rocks . At first I was a Little disappointed, by the Mic 1 input ( still am ) but the rest of the DR1 really makes up for what it lacks at that point . My next purchase , will be the absolute biggest SD card I can afford . Outdoor recording =Yes Line in recording =Yes Mix recording =Oh Yes Use as a Master Recorder = YES YES YES Live Concert = YES Use to record in a very quiet room , with soft acoustic instruments using its own internal Mics , = Not unless your right up on it , and you dont mind a little noise , but as for the rest of the above , whatever algorithm whenever ambient noise is present , it gets pretty quiet. and the Transient response improves quite a lot . I Like this thing , I had a LOT of fun with it today , and heard some really incredible possibilities . In fact I know that at least 4 of my songs , will be recorded , mixed , and completed , right off of this unit with the only editing being Fade in , Fade out . It sounds good enough to burn straight to CD for those four songs , without question . next week I will post a sample of a Mixed recording , direct from the unit , it will not see Audacity , I will upload it directly from the Tascam . I think you will Like !!!!

Nicely done , and the MZ1 pic , when you double klk blows up to original size , and is therefore my new desktop Pic for my Macbook Pro , I was an Owner of the MZ1 , ....I wish Sony would just at least Make a HiMD version of the MZ1 as a concluding statement of appreciation for the people who did stick with them , thru all of the changes the past 15 years . I know I have been there from the beginning . The size and bilk of the MZ1 didnt bother me a bit ( or 16 bits for that matter!!) but if it were brought up to 24 bits ! Wow , what a machine that would be . It had everything .

It is official , Stage 6 , is no longer functional , it the past 24 hours , I downloaded 94 GB worth of very rare , footage , Old movies , Music Videos that never saw the Light of MTV , as well as those that did There were people kind enough to take the Time out of there lives , to Translate and transcribe , subtitle a Large repository of Japanese Music videos , so so the outside world could get a hint of what the artists were saying . I was so glad to have those because my Japanese is moderate at best , and it was a great way to learn . Introduced to Crystal Kay , she is the Japanese version of Janet Jackson , They look almost identical , a young Janet Introduced to Sowelu , because I could understand what she was saying , I liked her music. so many groups I could name , but not enough room to type them . Stage 6 ,...... I will miss u . You helped keep me sane in this lonely place

hmmmm that does sound like a Power regulator problem , to give an illustration, I have a Macbook Pro , and I had a Battery that seemingly had nothing wrong with it , It took a charge , Showed the charge , and at 45% left , the Macbook would just shut down , no warning no nothing . So , what it is was the Power regulator , in the Battery ( it has its own microprocessor) was sending faulty data to the Mackbook I go a new battery and the prob was gone , everything works fine now . But in the case of the RH1 , that Power regulator is in the RH1 , and if it isnt reading the power correctly , it will shut itself off , to protect itself. My 2 cents worth.

Are you hinting Wiz , ...... ,..........I AM open for discussion ya know !

as of Feb 28 Stage6.com will be shutting down . It has been one of my Major sources of encouragement , living in a foreign country shut off from my own language . Divx , is a video format much like quicktime , but this service allowed everyone to share there videos , to be able to download a video of Jackson Brown in the 70's , or Pink Floyd Live , or Stevie Nicks , and a Great many others , channels tat were dedicated to the exposure of JPop with Translated Subtitles , so the non Japanese speaker could actually understand what these artist said . The effort and time , will all be lost ......... Visit it at least once before it goes , Leave a message if your a member .download what you can before it is gone ....... I watched "Seven Years in tibet " in Hd , ........... on Stage 6 . http://www.stage6.com/

what it might have done , is in "Hold " no functions are allowed , so it might have not allowed the unit to write a TOC at the end , not sure , I am just guessing , I have mine in Hold , BUT I am connected by a remote which is controlling the unit , so Without the remote connected , and in Hold , hmmm ............. It got Confused???????
-
Try one without the Hold button , ........ let us know

ask and ye shall recieve http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?s=&am...st&p=131961 Line in is VERY good , the MP3 encoder , is extremely clean ( in fact I have never heard a 128 bit MP3 sound as good ) Mic is a little weak , the AT-822 just isnt breathing like it should , the one I tried in the music store seem better ( probably just because it was a noisy environment ) The Mono MIC2 input is one of the best Unbalanced inputs I have heard , usually unbalanced ins lack detail and warmth , as well as gain . I could be happy just using the Mic2 input , It also accesses the Reverbs , and other effects that are system wide, the Limiter and Low cut is not accessible thru Mic2 , or the line input . No Remote ........ doesnt need one , Controls are intuitive ( with the exception of the Rec Level wheel ( a little thin and wimpy ) my only gripe really is the Mic 1 / Internal mic processor , on the post I linked to scroll down to #5 or so , there are two sound samples in mono where I speak to left and right mics individualy and use reall good phones and listen closely , the bass is different in the left and right sides , and it affects both the Input , and the internal mics ........... odd , it is more noticable when you use the low cut filter . Batt life , is pretty good , used it all day yesterday , sample this record that , listen to this , repeat that etc , did line out and headphone out the Headphone Line out is Noisy( when recording) , a LOT of white noise , but when I play the recorded file on something else the noise isnt there . For line level recordings it was not noisy at all

if you get caught , your gear could be , and probably would be confiscated . There goes 400 dollars down the drain . This an MD forum , and MD is much easier to conceal ( You did NOT hear that from me ) it just is ........... Not may people here will be up on the R-09 , .............. a few maybe , but the Roland forums might have better info on that portion . The Croakies , and a pair of Glasses cable down the back inside the shirt probably into the pants , R-09 strapped to the inside of a leg 2 cents worth submitted put the glasses on AFTER you get in .

Apparently this is the first Hands on review on the planet , I bought the display model , not understanding that this was still in PREORDER state All the stores online and otherwise are in Preorder , and the clerks were young , so I dont think they understood either , they were just being very helpful , I have been looking online and there are NO REVIEWS anywhere , that arent in Quotation marks , or swiped from Tascams web page , I have managed to snag a NAMM video of its introduction , but can find nothing else anywhere . A friend of mine brought this to my attention earlier today, while Talking online thru Skype ,.......... so I started searching , and 4 hours of searching later , ............... Nothing , not 1 post ......... exept this one . wow ........ I am floored. and now for some Rock and Roll!!!
-
Apparently , I am the first one to have this , as I have been searching online , and evrysingle store is in Preorder State , which means no stock yet I bought the Display Model , because the store didnt have any stock , and apparently the clerks , didnt realize what was happening , ..................... I have the Tascam before anyone else did , and I was also the first person to do an actual hand on review .......... on the planet . Whoa ............... ,,,, well there went my "15 minutes" if anyone knows that reference

I knew Bob would be there with me ! BOB you will LIKe This part for sure , .............when the Tascam starts up . the screen shows a Pair of Reels spinning , one empty one filling up ,!!!!

A mono Recording , so that you can hear each mic separately Left pointed at me , then Right , but as a Mono file . In this test one of the Faults becomes VERY clear , I believe the Mono setting is most likely intended for the Mic2 input , it must be , because with the stereo mics it is unusable I will post another with the AT -822 here for comparison I spent a couple of hours just playing with the MIC2 input , ( the main reason for me getting this unit ) and I will say the I am in no way disappointed there , the Mic 2 input is VERY usable as it can also be used with the FX process , which has Choruses , Reverbs , pitch shift , and other goodies . The Sound quality of Mic 2 is round , and fat , very warm , and pretty clean , I have heard a lot of standard Mono Mic Preamps , and thought this isnt , ........ say , a Focusrite , or such , it is completely usable . I will have to record in a quiet room away from my bird , and family , do a 10 minute demo of different effects , and settings , on just Mic 2 . On that point , the Tascam absolutely Nails it . for some people , this will be the only thing they need , The Mic connected to input 2 , and a Pair of good headphones . I know that I will get MAny miles out of that alone . I will also say the quality of the mp3 encoder is MUCH nicer than the Zoom H2 , I sent a file to Tiggerlou , that was recorded at the Zooms Lowest setting 48 kbs mp3 , ......this goes lower than the Zoom , and Sounds way Better . My ONLY and I Reapeat ONLY real complaint is the front end , Mic1 / Internal mic section , .......... the line in , Mic2 , FX , Internal Sound quality , is kikn , When you get past the Mic1/internal issue , and get to the rest of the unit , it rocks .
