If you could come up with a hack to add features to my 600D, or the Holy Grail of HiMD...MP3 compatibility, I would probably have an anuerysm!

Dragon_MG, you have a 600D! Can you send your values to compare it with values of other models? We haven't yet values of your model...

And if somebody are interested by our resheach, go to your service mode and send your values...especially if you have a NH1! To find the good values and modify it to upgrade your model, we have need many list of values to be able to make comparisons. it would be well if we had 3 or 4 lists for each model. Tanks. ph34r.gif

Currently we have:

NH600D -> 0 list

NH600-> 2 lists

Nh700 -> 1 list

NHF800 -> 2 lists

NH900 -> 1 list

NH1 -> 0 list

Hi everybody,

I'm reading the topics on this hacking... ehm, I own a NH900, european model, and in the next days you'll get a list of my settings, since I'm sick in bed I can play around with the thing.

P.S.

Any of you know details on the file formats on the HiMD1G... I would like to start developing something for the Linux world so... Ah, not to mention the good old NetMD usb stuff, of course. All infos you have r more then welcome.

Something for consideration: A certain euro Sony HDD player was just cracked in service mode to remove the "eurocap" limiting the volume. Maybe someone should look closely at Euro unit values and elsewhere?

Have you a link for this interesting info? and, kurisu, where are your values... wink.gif

Also I update my text file with VikingEP and Batman values...

aoix that sounds bad sad.gif

but this might just work: you have written down all of your values from MANUAL and NV in your text file. Go through the MANUAL and NV menus and replace the values with your old ones if they are different, in case the memory has been wiped or something.

sad.gif I watch all values of menu 0 1 2 4 7 and 9... and a lot of values are changed!!! almost all values mark by a "!!" in my text file are changed, but almost all other values are not changed... I have a lot of work this night wacko.gif or I return my unit on my shop... with a big reason " oh! I don't understand mister, but, this morning I put a MD in my unit and I watch ERROR EE, what is it??"

my minidisc player is in the shop (can't write to hi-mds righ tnow sad.gif) so i wont be able to put up some values.

AOIX, sorry to hear that man! i did that once, completely messed up my key configuration on my 510. i brought it in, saying "the keys are messed up" they took it no question tongue.gif after i got it back it turns out they figure out what was wrong with it, and just replaced the chipset! biggrin.gif

so, if you say exactly what kurisu says, i think you'll be in the green.

mad.gif  don't press pause when your read "NV 921 PatVer" because it's killer for your unit  sad.gif  my unit is dead... I press pause and if you re-read this value, your see "noPach".

and when I put an MD in my unit I see "ERROR EE" ... that's end!  sad.gif

Bad news is:

I accendently erase the patch and my MZ-NHF800 was dead as a rock too.

I try a lot of adjusting... after hours of playing with those small buttons and the big dial (compare to my mz-r900 it's really big), it still show me noPach. Just before I want to give up, or when I decided to give up. I am at the deadly "NV 921 PatVer" menu. I press the pause key again and thinking whether I should use fedex or UPS to send it back.....While the small disk is running on the little screen, I think what the hack, then I just pull out the USB line.....At that moment, there is neither bettery nor AC. So, essentially, I remove all the power while the unit is trying to write something into somethere....

The good news is

My MD MYSTERIOUSLY REVIVED!!! Immediately after that!! I am able to play, My computer can see this little "Removable Disk" drive and read/write files on a 80min MD disk in hi-md mode... Currently my one and the only 1GB disk is not around me, so I can not test it. I do go back and check again, the "NV 921 PatVer" it stil showing me noPach..

Why don't you give it a try. and see if this work for you.

BTW, the major change I have down while playing with the service mode includes

NV 112, NV 113, NV924, and of cause NV921.

Good luck! and wish AOIX can give some good news back

Having read about 2nd gen HiMD-recorders being in the pipeline, I thought it would be time to try out some Service Mode tricks. If my MZ-NH600 (european model with line-in) became dead, I'd have a good reason for investing into the coming versions.

I clicked the magical key sequence with Hold ON while doing a live recording via line-in, and the result was a total surprise: I got new info on the top left corner of the display (no flashing service mode display), saying:

R00 01

And the recording mode was switched into PCM instead of the original Hi-SP.

I slided the Hold OFF, and after some recording in this mode pushed the STOP key.

The info in the upper left corner changed into:

P01 00

File Writing,

and the disc symbol was lit.

After some writing the NH600 went automatically into a Repeat mode, and started playing the recording continuously, and showed following info at the top left corner of the display:

S00 FF ( The FF part was counting down like played frames or something)

I observed this quite a while, and pushed STOP several times. The unit shut off itself normally.

When pushing "PLAY" the recordings done prior entering the service mode were OK, but there was no trace of the recording done during the test. Otherwise the unit seems to work as before: it records and plays, and works with PC as before.

Anybody else tested this one?

Nice ! -very interesting, i tried around a bit as well..

i´ve got a 900 by the way

003

Ver. 1.100

euro "uncapped"

ss ver. 2.1

with fairly different results, though

used optical in at my md, optical out of my soundcard, playback of an original cd via winamp

rec mode: pcm

formatted hi md disk

procedure works, once i got there, i decided to stay for a while, and play around

-he didn´t change the play mode when entering

so first i stopped the recording. immediately started looping just like vwa´s unit.

counting down hex values. but i can press pause, stopping both the hex values and the playback, play again starts both, but pressing "next" will start the track again,(if it´s the only one, if there´s more, next track), the hex values showing "00" constanly

and i can continue recording.

i found out that i can do almost everything i can without being in "diagnose mode "

only moving in groups is hampered somehow, you can access groups, but not single tracks. when playing back that group, however, by pressing next, you can play the next track

after a bit of messing around , i found out, that after recording, he automatically switches to Hi-Lp and will from that on record in that mode, unless i change it.

so i´d format the disk, changed to pcm again, recorded about 10 secs, stopped turned it off, and found out, that the unit didnt turn off completely, it still diplayed that diagnose line, saying "p00 ff" or "p00 00" (randomly or i don´t know how to reproduce it..

if i let it rest like that, it will slowly count up from "p00 xx" to "po5 xx" (i haven´t seen the 5 yet) and then will finally turn off. (normal off)

i can change disks while in "diagnose suspend" but haven´t found out anything interesting with that yet.

hitting the "magic code" again, while in "diagnose mode" (unit on, doing nothing, hold on) will enter service mode. i once landed in "key testing mode" with LOUD constant beep, but probably by accidentally pressing any buttons i didn´t want to, i couldn´t reproduce it.

so i returned to normal mode and successfully played the recorded files.

plugged in usb, opened SS, tracks showed up, were playable, and transferrable. once.

i also tried using ss while in diagnose mode, it worked, but didn´t turn out any news.

sorry for being so messy, i´m tired, and haven´t had the patience yet, to write up detailed values, perhaps i´ll do so tomorrow. sorry but thats too much for me, i have to make up a plan what to do, write it up and then process it, writing down the results immediately as they turn out. because right now i´m too excited about trying and finding things out, i can´t stand still..

Damn this is fun, but im not shure if there´s any point in doing this...

Hey Ther.

I'm kinda a newbie and the only expierence I have with hacking my MD was by tweaking my 'old' N505 and gave it with some 707 functions...

I really enjoyed the LINE OUT thing, Is this already discovered on the NH600?

Yes, I own a NH600 and I'm very satisfied! I wonder if any of you minds to reply. I read most of the replies on ths topic and found one .txt file with some NH600 codes...I just need some intructions...

I found a site to buy service manuals for the Hi-MDs:

http://www.smshop.org/product_info.php/products_id/678It's 25$ for a bunch of CD/MD/HDD portables but you can also buy only 1 (5$), 2 (9$), 3 (12$) or 5 (15$):

http://www.smshop.org/index.php/cPath/107

Then I found a site where a guy was giving this adress to get service manuals directly from Sony:

Just tell them you want a service manual for your (model#). Here is the tel no:

Sony Electronics Inc.

World Repair Parts Center

8281 N.W. 107th

Terrace Kansas City, MO 64153 USA

(800) 488-7669 (USA Only) -or- (800) 345-7669

(816) 891-7550

(816) 891-2580 (Fax)

and last I wondered what this was:

HIMD3 ADJUSTMENT DISC

And some final question regarding this post:

yes, I can see the same info

HiMD1 protected

RecRemain ---:--

free space 3.3MB

HiMD1 unlocked

RecRemain -00:40 (in hi-sp)

free space 3.3MB

HiMD1 protected + stikly tape (unlocked HiMD3 config)

Have you tried to format a 1GB disc to MD mode while it was taped?

Or can someone else plz try this?

Hope this will help somehow

i would say it's a 1GB minidisc for service purposes - i think it's kinda reference disc for electrical adjustments of the laser (like laser power consumption or angle adjustment of the pick-up...)

And some final question regarding this post:

i tried it without any success. my unit refused to format it in any other format like hi-md...no easy old-school hacks unsure.gif
