With the Fam and enjoying my new RH10.

Greg, you studying photography? I'm going to Japan in 2007 to take a three-year study in Japanese Language and Photography.

Yeah Im doing the first year of a two year course in my 'final' year of highschool. We are using black and white film and developing it ourselves, but i wanted to try out my polarizing filter that i bought so I've bought a few kodak ultra 400 colour films to see what happens, and to just keep busy.

My coursework I handed in recently was crap as I hadnt done enough research (god I hate the research- I just dont know what to say other than I like this because bla bla bla and I dont do that because I dont know the terminology). For the next unit of the course, Im thinking of going back to greece for a few weeks to just try and get some street photog done.

We're going to have a fairly quiet traditional Italian christmas in Holland! We will have friends over for dinner on the evening of 24th (which in Italy is when you have your big Christmas meal as opposed to the 25th back home in the UK). New Year we haven't decided yet, but we will probably take a vacation in Janauary - hopefully somewhere warm!

We're painting & re-arranging the living room. I *hate* painting, so I'm doing a lot of beer-enhanced supervising. Rearranging the furniture calls for re-wiring the surround speakers which will also be in new locations. This time, instead of using those plastic wire channel thingys all over the perimeter of the room to conceal those big-mother Monster speaker wires, I'm drilling...down through the floor, across the laundry room in the basement, and back up on the other side of the living room.

Shlepping up to NYC next week to get Kid #1 from school for winter break.

Getting Kid #2 ready for his college music audition tour which will run from Mid-January to early March.

Speaking of travel to NYC, since Kid #1 has been going to school there, he has discovered the best & cheapest transportation mode going...the Chinatown Bus. That's a generic term for one of several "independent" bus services that go between major US city Chinatowns...Boston, NY, Philly. Baltimore doesn't have a Chinatown, so they use the Baltimore Travel Plaza in lovely downtown Dundalk right off I-95. Round trip (yes, both ways) between NYC and Baltimore is $35, one-way is $20. Take a look at www.apexbus.com to see if they go your way. Man, I can spend that much money just thinking about it...what a bargain.

I need to engage in less manual labor and more beer-enhanced supervising! lol

I can't recommend it strongly enough. The family especially appreciates my keen observations and constructive criticism made with the benefit of 2-3 pints of my favorite holiday-drinking ale, Delirium Tremens from Belgium.

Volta, am wondering if the Belgian ales available in the States are the same as those sold locally? There is hardly a Belgian ale I've had that I didn't like, though I don't care much for lambics. I make my own killer Chimay Red clone brew which, come to think of it, is time to brew again. That's what I'll do on New Years Day. I'd love to be taking a beer tour of Belgium instead, but brewing at home is a close second, and a lot cheaper.

Leffe Blonde is one of my faves.

As for chrimbo, I will be doing the usual; eating, sleeping, drinking and spending time with family. It's all a bit stressful as my campervan needs a new engine, which we have just got delivered but trying to get the mechanic to fit it before christmas may be difficult. As a bit of a coincidence we were thinking of taking the camper to Bruges for New years if it's fixed in time...

Cheers

@ smkranz: it kinda depends... there's quite some different brewing types in B.

- 'trapist' is a trademarked/controlled name only given to beers that are still brewed in abbeys with the traditional method (there are only 8, 6 B. and 2 Dutch... Westmalle and Orval are the two I like best) These can only be exported, not brewed abroad for obvious reasons.

- still kinda artisanal beers, like Duvel and a lot of lambic, some white beers and a bunch of former abbey beers... these are brewed in a mix oftraditional and industrial fashion but not in high quantities... So these are exported as well, and can cost (just like the trapist beers) quite a lot abroad

- the industrial beers... well, kinda what the name says: industrialized, often within large internationals (like InBev, formerly interbrew, which produces Stella, Jupiler, and a bunch of special beers). These are sometimes exported (but only with more special beers to keep the price high and the beer 'special') but often produced abroad... with slight modulations to the taste to fit in with the local desires

so no clear answer there, as I haven't really researched this and I can't definitely tell which beers are and which aren't imported... but if you ca score a trapist or a Duvel somewhere (and Delirium as well I guess)... you can be sure it's real Belgian beer you're tasting :P

We need a beer topic -- Volta can be our keen insight to the wonderful world of Euro brews. Americans really just can't do it right. I'd have to say I'm a Weinstephan or Guinness (draft) man myself..

As for Christmas, I'll be with my girlfriend's family this year, most likely the last time I'll be with all of them for quite a while as I will finally be moving back to Georgia during mid '06. It'll be nice, but at the same time there seems to be a good bit of interfamily dramatics brewing so I'm not so sure if I'm ready to deal with this additional stress during a time that should be joyful. Such is life..

I agree Ishii -- my lips and the area around it are constantly chapped! I wish that it was spring time already, it gets too harsh here steadfast. And to top it off, we have another storm hitting us today/tomorrow.

Oh indeed... the weather seems much colder this year, all around the north east that is. Well, I am definitely looking forward to spring time. But of course, I have to hit the slopes by Vail first. ;)

I will be starting on Christmas eve at Pirates Point Resort with a dinner and wacky gift exchange, Christmas day will start with breakfast again at Pirates Point, visits to all our friends around the island, maybe selling a few coffees at our coffee shop that my wife and I are in the process of opening, do a few phone calls and e-mails, and then dinner at a friends in the afternoon. And it will be a White Christmas, beautiful white sand.

To all my minidisc forum friends I wish the happiest of Christmas xheer, and the best on the new year. And to my non Christian friends I wish love and joy in your lives.

Meery Christmas,

Bob
