RobA
Another 3rd gen unit on the way? Maybe so! Sounds the the upgrade to the rh10/m100 as I have wanted to here. Way to go sony, hope it's true! All the new features of the rh1, plus the beloved features of the rh10 (large display, jog dial on unit, AA addon, etc.) will make the perfect unit.http://www.shoreviewdistribution.com/morei...modelNum=MZM200Edit: Found some more info here: http://www.minidiscforum.de/forum/viewtopi...fe46f63294ac4b1English translation: MZ-M200 - announced this week on the NAB2006, information from the user "flintstone", MDCF - like MZ-M10 and MZ-M100 a "pro variant" of the normal MD Walkmans - becomes inclusive microphone and software (Soundforge?) supplied - probably easily changed appearance (other one imprint as with MZ-M10/100) - possibly only for UK/USA market Edited May 13, 2006 by RobA
e1ghtyf1ve
Would you be terribly disappointed if I told you it was merely a rebadged RH1?

RobA
Price of MZ-M200 is $440 ..Expensive .Yes, but that might just be the "audiocubes type price" so to speak. Atleast we know more 3rd gen units are on the way.

Skradgee
I'm not seeing any mention of a screen like the rh10...I can find some talk about that, but it appears to be speculation. Who's got some solid info on this deck? Edited May 14, 2006 by Skradgee
Viv
E1ghtyf1ve is right - it's just a rebadged RH1. How do I know? I bought an RH1 yesterday, and the instruction manual covers both models: the only difference appears to be that the MZ-M200 comes with a stereo mike. So no big screen. We're still languishing here in the US. The good news (for me) is that I found a brand new Sony Style store within easy walking distance of where I work. Enjoy your new recorder!Cheers Edited May 14, 2006 by e1ghtyf1ve

Viv, come on and tell us your feelings and review of the new gadget you have just bought.regards
RobA
I really hope this is not just a rebadged rh1, then all my exitement would be for nothing. Sony has to get it right, I just can't see this being a rebadged rh1.
MDX-400
But it is a rebadged RH1, lol.Doesn't the RH1 have Mac support already though? I thought it was supposed to?And I wonder how they can stamp the word "Professional" on this thing? Is the pickup any more heavy/duty or are there higher quality internals? Because if all the parts are the same that's kind of dumb that they went and called it "Professional". Unless of course the RH1 has "Professional" build quality, but I doubt that's the case. MDX-400
Compared to the awful build quality of other sub-$500 "Professional" recorders, Sony has every right to label the RH1 as Professional. What sub $500 Pro MD recorders? I think the MDS-E58 was the only "low cost" Pro MD deck (perhaps there were one or two others like it, based on a home deck); but even that had a heavy duty pickup over the JE520 and a more rugged chassis. There's no mention at all of the pickup on the M200 being designed for anymore of a duty cycle than the RH1. Most of the other pro MD units (MDS-Bxx and MDS-Exx) were all $1000+. I doubt anyone or any company/business that used one of those pro units would consider a dinky little light-duty, same-as-the-consumer-portable-RH1, M200 a "Professional" unit. It's ridiculous! e1ghtyf1ve
i think he means sub 500 hdd/flash recorders eridol, microtrack et alThanks, I was indeed speaking from personal experience owning the MT and/or its ilk. In my opinion the design, assembly, and overall manufacturing quality is worlds apart from the RH(9)10s. I apologize for my vague post.
