Would getting this be the same as getting the M200? What are the advantages or disadvantages?

I bought a Itouch like back in June and thinking about selling it to get a Minidisc player....

Thanks for the help, gentlemen, and for the private message, sfbp. For those that might be interested, Minidisc Canada has the same item for about US$50.00 cheaper. But ordering from them is no different than any online seller. They'll ship only to the billing address when shipping overseas.

Thanks to sfbp I checked out the FedEx rates and found they are far more expensive than I imagined, approximately US$200 to ship a three pound box to Kathmandu.

I don't trust the PO not to steal this, courier is too expensive, and Amazon Japan won't ship the item to Nepal.

I think I'll just have to wait until I get back to Japan in the spring.

I strongly suspect the only reasonable way would be for you to get me (or someone else) to buy you one and send it to some colleague or acquaintance who is travelling out to Nepal anyway. This is how I got my only other *new* HiMD unit (apart from the RH1), a fellow from Australia bought it for me and carried it on the plane, sans charger.

That's another issue, what shape are the plugs (and what is the voltage) in Kathmandu? It's truly fortunate for us North Americans that Japan adopted the same power system and plugs as the USA.

Canada Post small packet air mail for 1.5 lbs will cost $30.70, tracked and signed for. The only catch is no insurance over $100 (which is, incidentally, included in this price).

I would think that suitably repackaged (ie not with commercial stickers advertising that it is NEW electronics), it has about a 99% chance of getting through just fine. But I have no experience of posting things to really distant parts. England, no problem, but up there by Mt Everest, I dunno. Their courier service (XpressPost) doesn't even go there.

Incidentally, FedEx to/from almost anywhere outside North America will cost you about that much. They quoted me $165 from Australia to Canada, which seems to me pretty steep (especially as it was a $100 item!). Japan is about the same.

I think it is best just to wait so you can purchase one yourself. Asking someone to buy it for you with your money is an open door to getting scammed. It's very simple for someone to take your money and disappear. It's the sad online world we live in.

Chris ,It really depends on the relationship you build with someone , and who it is your dealing with in the first place .

Your generalization statements of Paranoia here of late , are a bit disconcerting , for the past 3 months most of your comments have been quite eh hemm....... Directly opposed to forming a good working agreement with anyone .

Yes there are scammers , but you tend to throw EVERYONE in the same pot .

Indeed, scams are all too common on the internet. That's why I asked for a long-timer poster, someone you all know and in whom you can have more trust than a newbie.

Trust, or lack of it in Nepal post, is why I wouldn't have this shipped any other way than an international courier service. But as that is too expensive, I may have found the next best thing, a Nepali who is traveling to Japan next week. I can order from Amazon Japan and have it shipped direct to his address and all he has to do is put it in his suitcase, then give me a call when he gets home. He hasn't yet given me an answer. I'll let you know how things work out once I hear back from him.

Yesterday my Nepali friend returned from his trip to Japan with something for me – a silver MZ-RH1. I ordered it through Amazon Japan and had it shipped to his brother-in-law's in Tokyo. All my friend had to do was put it in his suitcase and carry it home.

Spent a couple of hours last night playing with the machine and am impressed at how different it feels from all the previous models I've owned, the MZ-R50, MZ-R909, and MZ-NH600D. Not only is it thinner and lighter than any of these, but it has some pretty cool features, which most of you here probably already know about. But who else am I going to tell about this?

What's cool

• the display is a knock-out, so much easier to read than any other MD player I've used
• the left-shift directory on the Edit, Option and Recording menus was completely unexpected and quite a nice touch
• the time remaining recharge display
• the stand-alone charger using a USB plug, first time I've seen this
• being able to recharge through the computer
• the replaceable remote clip (had to buy a new RM-MC11EL when the clip broke after several years of use)
• added functionality to the remote, including the equalizer and navigation at the Group level
• menus in Japanese or English

What's odd

• The open button and the hinge seem oddly placed; my hand is most often covering the lid when the release pops
• the redesigned remote, a reverse configuration of the RM-MC11EL with a separate play button is like having to use a left handed mouse
• the protruding record button – any idea why?
• no optical cable included (presumably because most consumers now record from computer)

Did a little recording this morning, hanging my mic outside my bedroom window from 04:30 – 06:30.
