Ascariss
huh, I know a player is due, although I won't specify the date or details, the codename of rolly is not correct, unless sony has another product up its sleeve. This is most peculiar. We will see what is unvieled at the show, hopefully it is not egg shaped.
pata2001
The least Sony could do is to release the A80x in the US.
dura_
The least Sony could do is to release the A80x in the US.I think the only reason Sony doesn'release the player in the US must be thast they think it would not make a profit.I could be completely wrong here but my theory is this:Reading the internet, Americans are always seem to complaining about Sony players; either there is a buttonposition wrong, or there is something round on the player so it's an ipod rippoff, and sonic stage doesn't work because it differs from itunes.Even 'official' critics like that moron from the Washington Post join in, I f.i. remember Mossberg giving a ridiculous negative review of the NW-HD1, in hindsight IMO the most beautiful HD-player ever made. But it worked different from ipods so his assistant couldn't get it to work easily, Sony's fault of course. No drag 'n drop, no unicode, how can someone enjoy music if it takes time to fill the player once or without accents and italics for heaven's sake etc. etc. Strangely good buildquality and very good SQ doesn't seem to matter much, and faults in players from f.i. Iriver, Cowon and Creative are accepted far more easily. I sometimes get the impression there is a kind of comptetion, like make 100 negastive posts about Sony DAPs and SS, win an ipod.In contrast, Europe, Canada, Asia and Australia seem to be less harsh in their critics, accepting that nothing is perfect.Since the internet nowadays is the #1 source for forming an opinion for the majority of people according to some research I read a few months ago, it probably isn't profitable to release players in the US due to the largely negative critics.Again, i could be deadwrong here, and there might be a completely other reason why Sony doeasn't release the DAP in the US.Anyway it's a pity, the A80x is a masterpiece... ceres
Hahaha - almost a balanced meal!Actually it is perfect as far as biological value of the protein portion is concerned. My opionion is: Sony USA don´t know what they are doing here. Screw the critics. There are far inferior players out there in the US although it might not be profitable to compete with a high price device for 10% market share. Shinji Ikeda
The least Sony could do is to release the A80x in the US.I could not agree completely. The product would be successful in US. We have to wonder why they have not.Actually it is perfect as far as biological value of the protein portion is concerned. My opionion is: Sony USA don´t know what they are doing here. Screw the critics. There are far inferior players out there in the US although it might not be profitable to compete with a high price device for 10% market share. With various markets getting interesting players and nothing new being released in USA other than the 2 gig NW-S705F it makes one wonder what is up with Sony USA. navsimpson
Personally, I think the reason the a800 isn't getting released in the US is because of it becoming obsolete when they transition from Sonicstage to Media Manager. I think Sony USA have made all sorts of mistakes, - perhaps they're trying to release a player with some longevity now.Btw - I finally got to see the a800 at a Sony Store and I was really impressed. It feels really well made and it's tiny. Luckily, my HD3 still works and my 2 new computers have left me totally broke, so I couldn't succumb to temptation If they do replace Sonicstage, simply re-jiggering the a800 to work with UMS and Media Manager would make a lot of sense.-Nav Edited August 10, 2007 by navsimpson

juli_
Anyway it's a pity, the A80x is a masterpiece...It really is, isn't it? Plus I love how simple and fast it is to navigate through the menu. I can find whatever I need almost instantaneously, it's a miracle. Although I haven't used the video part of it, I do love using the full album art display, it's so clear and vibrant. And it's the fastest-responding dap I've used, it's absolutely amazing. US would just love it if they got the chance to try it, feel it, listen to it. How frustrating for them. gotthat
NW-A800 is fantastic, NW-HD series is great, though still plenty of harsh comments come at Sony daps, if they do sell the NW-A800 in USA, i am not sure whether people is going to talk about it negatively like the way they talked about other Sony daps, maybe attack on ss again........maybe ipod is better will be the common conclusion again. I am not sure about an egg, but different source holds the new dap will come out for sure

riceb0i87
For some odd reason, this player intrigues me... So I went on youtube and searched for sony rolly, and I guess sony uploaded all those youtube-like videos (probably from their eyevio site) with little descriptive keywords, and apparently greetings about the new player. So I wrote them all down for all us fanboys/girls to speculate, or we could wait till September 10. Alright so here's the list:free style, communication, open, motion, small, circle shape, kuru kuru, share music, shuffle, peace, scratch, music note, abstraction, lucky, chill, love, future, Hey!, Yum!, sweet, groovin', art, Ciao!, dream, ca va?, life, beat, funk, minimal, fusion, roll, hi!, OH!, LOOK, !, spin, loud, ?, enjoy, wow, family, DANCE, nyao, smileWhat does everyone think? We know it's egg-shaped, and has integrated speakers. But words like 'communication' and 'share music' might suggest WiFi or bluetooth? What's up with the Hi! Ciao! Ca va? LOOK! OH! ??? Maybe it has voice-recording? I can't wait. At least this time Sony gave one of their DAPs a name for a change, as quirky as it sounds. navsimpson
All bluetooth?! What about the 90 or 95% of people who don't have bluetooth on their PCs? I'm intrigued, but hesitant - like when a friend gets up on stage. You're optimistic, but you're really worried they're going to embarass themseleves... cauldron
Someone sent so-mo.net an email, and mentioned that Sony's "personal audio company" had come up with a ball-shaped robot prototype about five years ago, it's called the Q.taro.http://www.itmedia.co.jp/news/0203/27/qtaro.htmlThe Q.taro is a "healing creature" (not my words) that makes use of 36 sensors to avoid obstacles, interact with each other, basically roll and glow to the music being played through its cradle. Which according to some rumors, is the same way Rolly responds to music. It also had some ability to recognize single spoken words.Rumor elsewhere suggests the Rolly was in development for several years by the former Aibo team, so I guess this is not a Walkman after all.
