  1. What about this - it's a Sony, but quite the deal: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-Minidisc-Multitrack-Recorder-/251073142468 You'd have to ask someone here to bid on it for you, and ship it on.....
  2. If you are allowed to "upload" your tracks from the NWZ to the PC, do so. (old PC, old SS?) Otherwise, I think you are right, they don't let you mix them. If this means they encrypted them to get them onto that device, you are out of luck. But the current SS, and the most recent devices that actually support ATRAC (which support has been removed from the available Walkman offering in favour of ugh-MP3), don't require, and in fact require the LACK of, encryption. This means you can actually copy the files off using Windows Explorer. The only problem is that the titles will not show. But as .OMA files have the titles embedded in them (ID3-Tag info, just like an MP3), you should be able to recreate the SS library by simply importing the files which are called names like "00023.OMA". Out of curiosity, what version of SS did you use to transfer them (then) and what version are you trying to use (now)? If I'm right, you should at least be able to PLAY the songs already on the HD, using Sonic Stage. And copy them too. Unless your Sonic Stage is really old. I recall seeing a strange warning when I first connected my NWZ-A1200 to Sonic Stage giving the impression I was about to lose something. Which turned out to have no teeth at all (in fact the HD was empty). Are you sure it's not something like that and you over-reacted by thinking that it requires everything to be deleted?
  3. So all is working, at least for HiMD files. However you don't want the system crashing when you insert a NetMD disk (or leave the drive with no disk - and the disc mode set to MD), so a good idea to install the right driver. You come here, you get the right answer, you take the advice, please no "I **just** want it to work", or we'll be digging you out from under in a few weeks when the next problem happens. You should look and see where SS is putting the files. It will be somewhere complicated (not to say goofy) but you can change that. There's a menu option under Tools->Options->Location to save imported files. No need to convert to WAV every time, but it is a good idea to decrypt all your uploaded oma's by running the File Conversion Tool (available under Tools also, but only when you are in the "My Library" display), at least once a week. That way if something goes wrong and you have to reinstall, you only lose the last week of uploads
  4. If you have the energy, "just" read this: If you don't, get the download and install the NetMD driver from here: "RTM" means Release To Manufacturing (as opposed to Beta Test) and means the for-sale, current, supported, "final" version of a product (before any updates that is).
  5. http://www.ebay.co.u...r-/110887605965 and if that won't do.... http://ord.yahoo.co....mmerce&slider=0 (click on the last link in the listing and you'll find at least 6 of the little beauties!). Sorry, sending that link doesn't work, no idea why. Here's what it looks like (I hope) クレコーダー Yeah, that link actually works, heh!
  6. It's actually worse than that John. Even just replacing the 3WMB is a pain, apparently. But on top, it is necessary to adapt (cut? trim? I am searching for the right word because I haven't done it myself, not having this unit) the 4WM in the manner indicated by that guy who figured out how.
  7. For now, don't even think about trying to install anything except the RH1/M200. It's possible to force the non-RH1 MD's to use NETMD052.SYS (in W32), and I want to see if the same thing that kills upload performance is also messing with your VM system (multiple different .SYS device drivers all being polled by NetMD). 760 doesn't suffer from that problem as it is the only 64-bit driver we have, and we had to figure out how to install it for all devices.
  8. That sounds about right. These are as rare as hen's teeth, as Jim Hoggarth, our on-board repairer found out recently. Note: there's a way to use the widely available LIP-4WM listed there, but it involves a bit of work. There was an outfit selling them for $25 but their price now went up to $55, so I imagine you wouldn't prefer that.
  9. I think your problem is with the 32-bit NetMD driver in 64-bit windows trying to install (and quite possibly the converse in 32-bit windows, trying to install the 64-bit driver). Time to clean up, remove everything related to MD (you will have to search the oem.inf's, sadly, and delete every one that has a NetMD driver in it). Then delete (from the W7-64 virtual machine) all traces of NETMD052.SYS. The 760 driver DOES work, at least on native Windows 64. You are the unlucky customer who gets to make the definitive determination that it (perhaps) does NOT work in hosted W64. Some of the driver files you may also want to delete, that will have been added by the SS installation: NETMDUSB.SYS NETMD031.SYS NETMD033.SYS (maybe some others, you see the pattern). This ASSUMES you already cleaned up the device map by uninstalling all hidden drivers in Device Manager (to do this you have to make 2 environment settings as detailed ). Good luck!
  10. All fine. Good information. As I mentioned I still don't have a Mac. I have a suspicion that you have a block device (for USB) that is wedded to the Mac, for whatever reason, and at whatever level. If you can prise that free, you might have correct operation - since no one to date has reported this problem and ||els is becoming pretty common. I know that when a virtual machine is run under (native) W7 in order to support XP, that there's a special menu for connecting/disconnecting USB devices. It occurs to me that SOME devices may think that they're exempt from that I don't have time to reread the whole thread (sigh) but did you do the "device cleanup" for hidden devices (not just NetMD but ***all*** unused devices) under Windows that Avrin introduced us to? Maybe there's a bunch of USB devices, one of which wakes up and grabs the HiMD as soon as it rears its head. If that one happens to be the :unknown device: driver, that might be enough to cause crashes? Anyway, again from ignorance, I know I have seen that menu which asks whether you want a new device attached to Windows or Mac. Are you sure the default isn't to silently connect with existing devices? Maybe there's a way to cause that prompt to come up always. Could it even be that REMOVING device drivers (see previous para) is the way to force that menu to appear? If there's even one "wrong" device (such as NETMD052, the 32-bit driver, when it should be NETMD760, the 64-bit one) waking up that could be the problem, so that when the right one is disconnected (to make way for HiMD) during deinitialization (or before the prompt has a chance to come up with the right driver) the bad one tries to install itself with the resulting crash. Make sense? Stephen
  11. Yeah, that's the same guy (kanoya2010) on the Yahoo auction I found. And he still has it listed on yahoo.co.jp.
  12. Seems that doesn't get me 4.4, only the drivers which are included in it. These drivers have been included by Avrin (notice his name in the post at the end of that thread) in his version of SS4.3 ("Ultimate") which we have here and strongly recommend for your use. In fact the link is broken, so I am no further ahead. I would guess that there's no particular restriction on NetMD, but I have been wrong many times. If the package you have includes drivers like NETMD052.SYS, then it's reasonable to assume I'm correct, however, and that what you need is NETMD760.SYS for your Windows64 machine (another guess!). edit: I see from re-reading (mea culpa) that you are OK with WInXP.... so not to worry. Stephen
  13. I'd be interested to see 4.4 just for the heck of it, and see if I can make it work with NetMD. How did you get it (ie did it come with a specific piece of hardware)?
  14. Yes, but that is not helpful to the NH1. Sorry.
  15. I don't know where you got 4.4 from - but AFAIK versions after 4.3 (eg 5.x now part of X-app) are only available in Japanese. However I do NOT think they are (fully?) backwards compatible with MD units. It would not surprise me at all that 4.4 does not support NetMD out of the box. But probably with drivers (what version of Windows are you using), you can make it work. Very likely you are running 64-bit Windows 7, so you need the (64-bit) driver from our site. Also, the 4.3 you can download here has a lot of the later fixes such as you will find in 4.4 and 5.x already included in it, thanks to the work of Avrin. So I think you should forget 4.4 and go back to the version in our download section.
  16. I split the topic about Mac/W7/Parallels into another thread
  17. OK. It's fairly clear that the crash occurs when you "eject" the MD device and "reinsert" the HiMD (or vice versa). That is what changing to/from HiMD/MD essentially does. I;ve seen parallels working (at my brother-in-law's) but I don't have a mac. What I noted was that the Mac tries to give you the opportunity to choose which machine (Windows or Mac) you want a new, connecting device added to. I wonder if there are some options about how devices are REMOVED from the device map. If you could replicate this part by simply UNPLUGGING the minidisc unit from USB - first thing is to see if it crashes when you do that. Another thing to check is to see if there are consequences to "uninstalling" a device in Windows Device Manager. If it survives having the device removed without crashing, you are in much better shape. There ought to be default options configurable on the Mac for determining what to do about an inserted device WITHOUT ASKING YOU... ie you can choose to default all inserted devices to the PC or to the Mac. Since I am unfamiliar with the Mac, you can figure that out better than I can. Hope this helps.
  18. Unless you actually tried coherence mode already, I'm guessing that this is the remaining problem now.
  19. "Disc mode" has one of two values "HiMD" or "MD". I think you were changing Rec Mode, which has nothing to do with this issue.
  20. I can't say for sure, but your logic sounds reasonably good. I'm really not sure what the driver is referring to, as my "Sony HiMD Walkman USB Device" has a version number of 5.1.2535.0 The NetMD driver is obviously working perfectly. The HiMD driver is obviously working perfectly (from your first post). So it must be the switch over. I would be inclined to "eject" the device (however you do that on Win/Mac) before changing over media type. There's another setting "disc mode" on the M200 and also M100/M10. You may want to experiment with that. However the drivers should be able to survive a change in status between HiMD and NetMD - so I am inclined to point the finger at Parallels or however your W7 is integrated with the Mac.
  21. Off the top of my head, I would guess that the system crashed because it never got around to installing your NetMD760 driver (since you hadn't inserted a NetMD disk at that point). I would further guess that it won't happen again now. There are NO drivers required for HiMD. Let us know how you fare! The only means of communicating with HiMD is via the standard blocked device drivers (although there is some trickery with ASPI/SCSI and it uses, again, only standard drivers, nothing from Sony). When you switch from NetMD to HiMD, you should hear the USB down and up sounds (in that order), confirming that the MD machine has switched modes. If you plan to put a bunch of NetMD machines in there, it might be time for me to package up my Win32 solution to allow NetMD052.SYS to be used on all 32-bit drivers, releasing the RH1/M200 from drivers' prison and consequently slow uploads. I think I have confirmation that that works, but it's been a while since anyone made noises about it. Good luck!
  22. You can (at least in theory) bid on Japanese auctions by proxy by registering with one of the auction sites. The one I know about is www.rinkya.com but there are several others. For a small item like this (I know, the US vendors wanted almost $50 and that without shipping) I would think the major hassle would be getting registered. But it must be close to waking up time in Japan, I suggest you jump on that one I sent (try Google Translate or Yahoo Babelfish to help you). They only wanted about $20 which seems about right. The commission on that won't amount to much, hopefully, payable to rinkya or whoever.
  23. Ouch. I looked on Ebay and generally on web for you. You may have to try Japan. Here you go - good luck with it! http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k152834715 There are a couple of spare part places in the USA you might try. Try googling generally for Sony spare parts.
  24. Just looking up to try and find something for a poster here - and came across this guy: http://www.ebay.com/sch/kanoya/m.html?hash=item35bc1abd74&item=230789135732&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&rt=nc&_trksid=p4340.l2562 He looks like he's selling up all his stuff. All sorts of items of interest to the folks who ask about stuff from time to time.
