  1. The adapter is identical. It's just the flex that goes from the adapter to the wall... these are in common with a whole bumch of devices so really a new power adapter is not needed. The other issue is the volume cap should be removed. This requires going to service mode, and is a pain on new units, next to impossible on used ones because the jog lever "gets tired" (and jittery).
  2. It's on my 980. There's no separate button for it, but it's there on the edit menu. Even for LP tracks. A 3-motor full-sized deck has several advantages, just as the MD decks do over MD walkmen: a. more stability than any portable, for speed, wow etc, b. ability to adjust the pitch to compensate for original recording speed being off c. better frequency response and ability to deal with different types of tape d. better line output (sometimes with gain included) - your problem. e. stronger dedicated motors to wind and rewind the tape (although I haven't examined the Sony in question in great detail). f. ability to adjust quite easily for tracking and alignment issues. a. above is the important one, though, I believe. Going through my own K7 collection I found there were tapes that only my best deck would play properly. b. can be solved by an MD deck with pitch control (note that the 980 and 940 cannot increase the speed+pitch, only your 920 and some other SP-only decks can do this - they can all LOWER the pitch+speed). 3. Then you have got the ability to change the level using Scale Factor Edit. I don't know exactly what this will do to the noise level. If it were me, I would be sucking it into the PC (by uploading something recorded on MD) and beating the sound to death mercilessly using CoolEdit/Audition/Sound Forge. Of course as you amplify you may find you need to remove background. Tape hiss is actually quite a good candidate for noise removal, but you have to learn how. You'll need an MZ-RH1 to upload, or you can use WAVEREC on the PC to capture the optical out from the 980, assuming you have a sound card with optical in. If you do not, you can buy one for $15 or so. FInally, is it possible that ALL tape recordings appear to be "attenuated"? If so you may need to demagnetize the tape heads and/or adjust the azimuth. I assume you keep the heads clean - or even playing things may wreck treasured recordings. (A few minutes later). Aaaah I see, this is a walkman. Are you using Line Out, or Headphone (two separate jacks)? If the latter, this is the source of your problem. That model has a dedicated line out 4.7KOhms with 250mV signal. Should be plenty. But second hand cassette decks are easy to find, for 50 quid or less. That may be safer for your precious recording, now we are 30 years on. (I know, my B&O is now almost 40 years old but so it goes). Stephen
  4. It's more likely an impedance mismatch Martin. See if you can find the output level specs of the tape deck, and compare the peak signal level in mV to what the 980 is expecting (125mV to 500mV). Off the top of my head I would expect most decks to be about the same. Certainly all the ones you mention appear to have identical specs in this regard. Either that or the tape was recorded at low level. The beauty of the ATRAC format is that it can survive digital amplification quite well because it's a floating point amplitude instead of fixed point (as in CDs). If you have (as I do) a B&O or similar DIN-standard deck, you'll need a special cable with some resistors soldered inline. Either that, or you already have inline resistors when the MD deck doesn't exactly need them
  5. Perhaps you mean the 333ES, as the 555ES doesn't do MDLP.
  6. How about the (IMO critical) diagram on page 43 (of the original, in PDF pages it's page 39)? Would it be too much a stretch to guess they copied the service manual pages from an earlier model (and I don't mean the 22ES), and forgot to update those details?
  7. The service manual for the JA20ES clearly shows the CXD-2656R. The JB-920 clearly shows CXD-2654R, as do the W1 and 520. However the 530 and 630 have the CXD-2656R. So I think it's safe to assume that the 2656R (never seen 2655R) is the defining element for Type-R. I also don't seem to find the service manual for the JA22ES, but it may well be that the 22ES came before the 20ES (however the references on minidisc.org seem to show they were both released in mid 1998, and the 20ES's service manual is dated internally 6.1998). Several translated pages of Sony's mention the 22ES quite prominently as featuring Type-R, so I would guess it also has the 2656R.
  8. Will look later, just going out. Meantime try looking at the directories set up in configuration. Likely one of them doesn't exist or is not writable by your logged on user. Sony always said that an Administrator should be logged on to run Sonic Stage. I prefer to keep my files NOT under the Documents and Settings Tree The fact that you are on F: makes me wonder what kind of setup you have. I am sure SS is expecting to put it in C: Back later... Stephen
  9. (bump). It still bugs me that Sony can't/couldn't be bothered to fix this. The unit clearly displays LP2/LP4 indications on the front panel when playing MD (as per the manual "when connected to MDLP changer" - there's only one changer, the MDX-66XLP) and yet Sony Support denies that this head unit is even compatible with Minidisc. I actually see very short titles off MD, too (anything longer than 8 characters is simply lost). My XTXM1 (Satellite) is a rather advanced paperweight (well actually it's more like a printed book to a blind man) since the HU change in my car. How to escalate? Any ideas?
  10. I'm not exactly sure where I said that, but if that's what works, all power to you Phil. I do know that it becomes necessary to eject and re-add MP3's and WAVs if they change in any way at all after they have been added to the SonicStage Database. So maybe moving them forces the DB to treat them as a completely "new" file. Stephen
  11. I think your computer's JS (Javascript) is infected, Philippe. That's why when I have been to your links in the past, strange things have happened.
  12. I have the pre-WiFi version (also red) and it is a lovely piece of gear. If I was starting now perhaps would get one of these (the price is definitely right) but we got it at the time for a specific purpose and it performed admirably. The one other difference is that I see it uses microSD instead of SD, but that's mostly a matter of an adapter, with MicroSD becoming so common. The reviewers on Amazon are right - functionally this machine is more capable than the competition. It doesn't have the same ease of use as Kindle, but it's more flexible. The sound (MP3) is quite decent.
  13. OK, so that means there's something weird about the MP3's you are trying to use. Here's 1 clue - many MP3 software players will CHANGE the file after/during playing it. So the problem is now, that Sonic Stage does not like the file changing behind its back. Here's a second clue - it's possible that conversion of ANY kind is failing because you need space (specified in Sonic Stage configuration somewhere. Now you know what you're looking for, I am sure you will find it). on the HD to store the temporary "optimized files" before sending them to the NetMD. It may well be that there is no room, or permissions are wrong, or (most likely) the location specified there simply doesn't exist. Try checking that, and pointing to somewhere that does, that you have permission to write to. Note, SS should always be run by an administrator (or at LEAST Power User) because of the permissions problem.
  14. Forget MP3, for the moment, please. Far too many variations of MP3 for us to rule that out as a cause. Try simply ripping a CD to LP2 using SonicStage, and see whether THOSE will transfer without problems.
  15. The PID is 013F and someone (hint hint) needs to insert it in the driver file, if you don't have one. Question: WHAT VERSION OF WINDOWS (32-bit or 64-bit) are you needing support for? If it's 64-bit, maybe Azureal has time If it's 32-bit, I will try, but my time is short today. Update: I've done them both but prefer to send privately until we know it works. Please send me PM
  16. Hmm..... not much in the way of choices out there. There's some in Hong Kong (on your local Ebay here) where the shipping is not TOO bad.... Suggest a few lines of research: Ebay UK Ebay Australia Yahoo Japan (the largest source of all MD equipment but you must be able to read Japanese). If you can find an auction then you can get one of the services to bid. Rinkya.com is recommended, and there are some other good ones that people here will chime in with, no doubt. Note added: I looked at the HK auction in detail. They say "The LCD menu can be changed to English". I know on my own I did not find any such option. So unless someone here tells you how (eg if you have to go to service menu which is a REAL PAIN on this machine), it's wise to write to them to confirm HOW you change the language. I am NOT saying that this model cannot be changed - only that my own RH1 is not able to change, at least from the normal menus. Perhaps someone has experience with the Far East model?
  17. But.... I think the trim required will be specific to the car? So it's more like a "Sony" fascia kit for brand X of automobile. Unless I misunderstood OP. However most Sony units (but not all) are essentially what is called ISO (or single-DIN) which is a standard size, and to get your MDX-100 you have to get the right piece of plastic that fits the car you own. For example to get the MDX--CA790X into my wife's Toyota, I ordered this: http://www.installer.com/item/display_item.php?it=TA2045B The other thing needed (maybe I am preaching to the choir already) is a so-called wiring harness, for example: http://www.installer.com/item/display_item.php?it=70-1761. However if the unit already has plugs in it that end in wires, and there are bare wires in the car, you won't need that. I had to buy TWO wiring harnesses - one for the Toyota end, one for the Sony end, and then join the wires correctly between them. This avoided cutting up the harness on the factory-installed radio in case I want to put it back before reselling the car. Sorry if I am completely off base here. Maybe you and OP know something specific that I do not. Stephen
  18. Sounds to me like she has somehow intercepted your communications with iamorange. It may even be that it is not iamorange that you have been dealing with? Certainly putting pressure on the company's Paypal account should yield some action, with a bit of luck. I'll look a little further. PausePlayStop (which I have always been able to recommend) finally stated that they have no more of them. Regards Stephen
  19. What do *chinese* customs have to do with you? It's coming from China, to Switzerland, if I understand you correctly. Your dispute is with Swiss Customs..... I think perhaps this is the reason people use Paypal - there is a satisfaction guarantee. No item, money back, and it is enforced by Paypal. We can help you find an MZ-RH1. Meanwhile I checked and can find no complaints directly about iamorange. I suggest you ask for your money back. It appears to be a large business and they have nothing to gain by cheating you, therefore. Maybe there has been some kind of misunderstanding, or.......?
  20. Different problem. As a start, remove the files (you didn't say what KIND of file) from the database (not from the computer, just from SS) and re-add them. Since many files have to be converted depending on your destination you may have a problem, but it's more likely that the database is corrupt. If there's not too many, do it this way. But if it's massive we may be able to help you validate it online. Most of all, tell us the types and exact NAMES of the files. If they need conversion it may be that the conversion directory is full or doesn't exist.
  21. I don't think there's a PCLK driver for 64 bits. So you would have to run MCrew in the 32-bit box. I'm sure that's possible with Ultimate.
  22. Try installer.com for all such parts, would be my recommendation.
  23. As you say, it plays the ones made by Nero and also EAC.
  24. I don't have any experience adjusting player-only models. Most of them either work or not. Skipping when I HAVE seen it means the read power needs adjusting (on read/write models).
  25. I think he doesn't mean that. It's an English-French thing Philippe.
