Maybe sfbp know if there is a subtility in record quality between Simple Burner ans SS, but I don't think so. The choice of SP/LP2/LP4 is offered in a little menu close to Net-MD Window in SS. If you have a 74mn blank disc, maximum time will be 4x74mn. There is sadly a real quality difference in SP mode with SB/SS compare to a real time recording, SP sounding like LP2. I personaly advise you to record in real time. Find one of my own topic/post (in my contents / profile) about recording with PC with DFX audio enhancer to get one of your life shock. Test SP / LP2 / LP4 for each of your albums, maybe LP4 will be not be good enough for some of them (DFX could correct that...).

You discovered Sonic Stage and also that your MD was Net-MD... All over technical answers are available here in the technical section.

What does that mean Type R for a MDLP player ??? I always thought that Type R is for a better recording in SP mode and that Type S for a better LP playing ! http://www.minidisc....ny_MZ-E310.html

I visited Pham Cu's house yesterday but as it is the rain period; all decks have been collected in three big piles in the center of the house (windows are often not closed in time, so when rain suddenly arrived in Vietnam, it could enter the house specially when it is a house with 4 floors ! Therefore, it was difficult to make some pictures. Pham Cu has at least two or three dozen of decks, mostly in champagne color. For example, I saw at least three MDS-W1 decks. We discussed about lens and he showed me a box with around 15 of them. That mean you can order lens to him as shipping could not be that expensive. Note that I don't know if he would accepted to do that, I have no idea how difficult it could be to find them. For other spare parts, I think he could be the good guy for it. He his a professional so he will surely accept to discuss with you about the problem before shipping you anything (please remind he use google translator for english translation, but he has good english speaking friends). You will find his personnal email at the end of his web page, or send him a PM using this forum.

After some days far from the forum, I come back and open again this topic. I cannot believe it. It is the price of a JA555ES deck ! Yesterday phamcu (the vietnamese electronic ingeneer who repair - at last one - MD decks here in Saigon) told me that he sold his JA333ES for $400 to one of his friend. Even here in Vietnam, a MDS-W1 (hacked to make MD copy simply) is 130$. So $660 for a portable unit ! I missed a MZ-EH1 3 years ago at $210 in a shop, so $660... Pham Cu will sell me next week a lens - $18 - for my not-still-repaired-in-France-JA555ES-deck. Then - if the repair is finally done (I am confused about this), it will be proposed for sell to the forum or on eBay. If not, Pham Cu ask me to bring it (15kg) in Vietnam to repair it (I can see he is already excited about it). Just a funny little story before leaving this topic... This last month, I have been cutted 3 times from Internet due to a "broken" cable. And also cutted from electricity due to a "stolen" cable (electric company asked neighbours to look after cable during night for them as there are many problems with stolen cables right now in all the country). What is funny is that finally Netnam - my internet provider - explained me that the internet cable has not been broken but cutted by the electric company men themselves because Netnam did not want to pay a fee to have the right to hang their cables in the street (2 customers only in the street). So the cable is cutted till they will pay. Let us resume, I am perhaps suppose to look after the internet cable during daylight from any cut by an electric company guy and after the electric cable during night time from any cut by a copper-steal guy I hope that it is clear for eveybody. Therefore, Netnam ask me to... change my Internet provider, better VNPT, the electric company internet service !

I live in Vietnam (french) but I have family in California (you are not surprised I suppose) where the MD player can be send to. So if it is OK for you with a Paypal payment, tell me, I will put a bid.

I have ordered a NH600 on eBay. The unit wait for me in France. I was not aware that NH600 could have a better sound than the MZ-RH1. Got a NH900 too, so I will have a match to do between 3 Hi-MD generation..

A Google research that has been sometime boring and sometime exciting ! As there are many subjects, talking a lot or just a little lines about MD, I let you choose the ones you want, just click after the link title. sfbp ask me not to do one topic per link (he is right, chief is always right) but YOU can make your own topic starting discussion if for you one of those documents is worth of it. My favorite is : MD-Technologie Seminar-Handbuch (aaaaccchhhh, german schpeackinggghhh) PDF Files ******************************************************************** 1) Utilities (recording voice, field recording, internet recording, MD to PC transfer, desktop management...) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Transferring recordings to the computer using Amadeus II Transferring from a cassette tape recorder or a DAT recorder http://www.mun.ca/ca...izing_tapes.pdf Mini-disc Recorders: A New Approach for Qualitative Interviewing http://www.ualberta....2/pdf/given.pdf Editing Audio with Audacity http://jtechie.files...01/audacity.pdf Soundtrack Pro / Knight Digital Media Center Multimedia Training Importing Audio from a Minidisc Recorder... http://journgrad.fil.../09/stpkdmc.pdf What equipment should I use for oral history? http://www.le.ac.uk/...raining/no3.pdf Transferring recordings to the computer using Amadeus II Transferring from a cassette tape recorder or a DAT recorder ftp://webcentral.hu/...Live!%20(SB0220)/Manual/English/Audigy.pdf MiniDisc / Desktop management software for RISC OS User Guide http://minidisc.iconbar.com/manual.pdf Digital Video For Dummies, 3rd Edition http://inethub.olvi....r_Dummies_(2003)(3rd_ed.)(en)(375s).pdf Audio and Multimedia from Concept to the Web: A Hands-On Approach (An ISU Extension Field Specialist's Approach) http://www.extension...ebACENETC99.pdf SOUND RECORDING AND EDITING IN AUDACITY http://www.kitchens-...%20Audacity.pdf Transfert d'une piste audio d'un MD vers un ordinateur http://www.isorgue.i...dioversordi.pdf Mini disque: Comment r

So it is a trick ... Reading the service manual, does that mean (page 2) 3. Enter service mode = 1. With the power ON, press the 0 (Deck button while pressing the OUTPUT and CLEAR (Deck A) buttons together. + 2. Rotate the AMS knob and when "(Service)" is displayed, press the YES button. 4. Eject the source disc (TOC will _not_ be written) 5. Exit service mode = 9. To exit the test mode, press the MD SYNC button. The unit sets into the STANDBY state, and the test mode ends.
-
What do you mean 'in the service mode', do you need to enter the service mode AFTER the transfer - at this moment - or the W1 propose himself to undo erase after making a service mode modification ? I downloaded the service manual on minidisc.org equipment browser but did not found yet this trick....

I hope you will get an answer soon (have in mind he is not fluent in english, that he have to DISCOVER that you have a question first... If it is this onehttp://cgi.ebay.co.u...=item1c1d28253f I think the guy is wrong when he said "As well as producing faultless copies of Minidiscs by internal copying". If I remember W1 transfer faultless tracks from a MD to the other one but don't make a copy. It is perhaps usefull when you want to reorganise your MDs library tracks between several MDs or if your album cover fit better in another particular MD design. Do you remember those ones : http://www.audiotstation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33127 , http://forums.sonyinsider.com/topic/22354-glossy-minidiscs-labeling-made-easy-finally/ and http://www.swharden.com/blog/how-to-create-your-own-custom-minidisc-labels/ and http://gadinsetboutsdeficelles.blogspot.com/2008/02/playlist-par-charles-berbrian-soif-de.html ... To make a faultless copy, as I know, only professional decks like two MDS-B5 can do it. Maybe not ??? Could be interesting if a electronic ingeener could hack some decks...
-
For sure, Pham Cu will is a rare pearl, even in this forum. For once we have one member who repair MDs (with an electronic ingeener experience) AND love it ! He has the answers I have ever wanted to know about vietnam audio electronic spare parts market (not only MD but also CD, ampli...). You have Jim in england, I have Pham Cu in Vietnam .
-
It is still in mind for me as Pierre and me regret what happened to the deck duting its shipping. And, no surprisingly for you I think, I have already got in mind that Pham Cu could perhaps repair your broken parts, even with my own deck as a reference if he need one to repair your parts. Or (perhaps better) find spare parts here. We will rethink of this in two or three weeks, time I need to know more about Pham Cu MD business. I have already some pictures of your broken circuits, maybe it will be usefull to explain what is the problem with technical terms to Pham Cu in this topic or send him a PM. You can also send him an email (su_su1972+yahoo.com) and send a CC to me.
-
OK then, you present yourself in that topic ! Exactly like your other post this day, technical information is always well received, specialy to know the hiden and tinies differences between decks and portable units. That is kind of you come time to time and even often in this forum... to practice your english (like I do) ! Maybe you can setup an signature in every post with your details and informations about your minidisc activity and the support members can afford (for example, lens avaibility in Vietnam)
-
Thank you Pham Cu... But it is better to recall the members that your are the famous electronic ingeneer living in HCM city, Vietnam, who repair and sell minidisc units, blanks, and... what I will myself discover the next week when you will receive me in your home. My camera is already ready !
-
First impresion is good. He look like what he say he is, an electronic ingeener. I have confirmed that all electronic second hand stuff is coming from Cambodia or Japan by huge quantity. What is important for us, is that it is still possible to find MD lens in Vietnam, not brand new ones, with no garanty for a full life as he just take one from a deck to put it to another deck, It cost 15 to 30$ for a second hand lens. He has also many blank dics that he has imported from Japan ! Next week, I will come to his home to take pictures, My Cyrus daD3 CD player, my Sony MDS-B5 and my Sony MZ-NH900 has leaving home for a cure...

We discussed about that information in another topic but this time I just find out a link In french ... At least 50% of electronic second hand market here in Tao street is 100V, coming from Japan. I don't know exactly how they find all that stuff but pretty sure it arrive by huge quantity. bobt do you want me to check something for you, I don't understand clearly your post.
-
I did have my eyes right in front holes when I rode your post. I suppose that It is easy for a guy like this seller to change the voltage if necessary or sold it with an external transfo (100.000 to 300.000 VND), I saw it many times. These MD decks are 100V before any change. Cừ (that is his name) will be in my house tomorrow at 19.00. My wife is vietnamese too, so that will be easier for everybody. My MDS-B5 is already excited to enter the dance again and my CD player Cyrus daD3 has cancelled his booking in a retirement house. He wrote me by PM that he has also a JA333ES but I don't know if he will sell it one day and a JA33ES. JB940 and MDS-W1 are fair opportunities either. Side that, he is searching for a JA555ES (asking me to bring mine from France...), a JA33ES and also Kenwood 9090 or 7020 decks.

Sony MSD W1 2T6 = 130$ I have seen it at 400 euros on eBay
-
No; Stephen you are wrong, voltage is 220V in Vietnam. MD decks can anyway easily be modifed if they are still 100V (Japan import), it is so easy to find a good & cheap transformator that people don't ask for 110V to be change to 220V. 1T = 1.000.000 VND = 50$ Yes Google Translate give me hours of fun when I surf of vietnamese audio web sites. But it exist and I thank Google for that. I sent some SMS using it and most of the time vietnamese guys did not even noticed it was approximative vietnamese.
