I finally cracked... as this auction is in France and also accept bank check. This not only a gift for me but for my new MZ-RH1 ! Too late for you !

As I record in real time, I can adjust the quality (Creative X-Fi Crystalliser) but lastly the level of each song also ! After noticing a lot of distorsion using lossless recent music with the DFX plugin (that is more usefull with MP3), I decided to use everytime the ReplayGain component with foobar2000 during my recording. And forget DFX if I use a lossless source. My MDs are now recorded with tracks with an average level of 89dB. So the JB980 is fixed to +0.0dB once for all (I also take care of tracks using a lot of acoustic bass and reduce then also the bass level). That is also meaning that I will not need to change my listening level too when I change MD (I hope so).

You are right Stephen, it is a technical subject. Maybe pictures could help sometimes. Pham Cu has a Sony MDX-D400 deck. He hacked already one MDS-W1 to make copy (keeping original MD full) without using any tricks, maybe he would be able to do something special on another deck.
