Using your Hi-MD remote will save your jog lever which you will need anyway to enter menu of your RH1. My NH9 has also button problems so for me Hi-MD units are NOT anymore portable units.

I edited too much my post so now it look like a mess... MD shops in the center of Saigon, Huynh Thuc Khang street (Son Ha shop, number 41 and the shop next). The best place is Nguyen Kim & Nhat Tao area (P7,Q10) : hundreds of MD boomboxes (200.000 basic to 2.000.000 VND for huge one) and bookshelves (1.000.000 basic to 4.000.000 VND for separate units multiCD/multiMD... even 6MD), old MD decks (few MDLP models, few ampli-tuner-MD-CD combos, a lot < year 2000), lot of electronic stuff everywhere in this area. I live in Vietnam (I am french) and I have problem also when I need to repair any Md product (shops are only able to repair electronic part like a power off problem, if it is a MD portable unit problem, Sony Vietnam send to....Singapour... which repair stood 3 months only). No way to find a solution if my deck as a problem. But as it is a CD problem that you got on your deck, why any (good) CD repair shop could not change your optical lens ? Did you ask one to find a solution or did you find the BU-30 and the BU-1 alternatives as your own ? Perhaps this australian shop can answer you or send you the BU-21BD53 spare part. http://spares.bigwarehouse.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=147_205_9792&products_id=252023&s=BU21BD53&n=1&pcid=163726 or this one http://www.partstore.com/SearchResults.aspx?q=BU-21BD53&x=11&y=12 or this one http://ersatzteile-dienst.de/SONY-4505000000.htm Can you find other MD decks in Thailand ? What I have found in Saigon : http://forums.sonyinsider.com/index.php?/topic/24631-list-of-decks-find-in-the-center-of-saigon-vietnam/page__p__169329__fromsearch__1&#entry169329

A minidisc deck is a recording device that is used for capturing digital audio files to disc. Minidisc decks are made up of a variety of delicate components that can malfunction, but if something in your minidisc deck breaks, it may be able to be repaired. If you have a minidisc deck that is failing to properly play or record, there are a few quick fixes that you can perform on your own. Difficulty: Moderately Challenging Instructions Step 1 Remove your minidisc deck from the heat. If the deck stops working for no reason, it might be due to the temperature in the room. Extremely hot temperatures will prevent the deck from working. Step 2 Look for missing screws. If the buttons on a minidisc deck are pressed too hard, this can shake the interior screws loose. If they fall out, the screws will end up on the laser unit and you will get a "Disc Error" message. In order to find out if the desk has important screws missing inside the unit, you will have to remove the casing. The case of a minidisc deck can be slipped off after removing all the external screws that hold the casing in place. Sometimes, simply removing any screws from the laser unit will fix the unit. Step 3 Move the exterior screws around. Minidisc decks often have 10 screws holding the bottom cover to the top cover. These screws are generally different sizes and if they are placed incorrectly, they will cause a variety of issues, such as the deck door not opening. On some decks, one missing screw can cause the entire unit not to function. Step 4 Replace the overwrite head if the unit won't record. When the overwrite head is the problem, the unit will continue to function. Playback will work as normal, and when you attempt to record on the minidisc deck, it will appear to be working at first, but recording will either not begin or the unit will act as if it is recording and then there will be nothing burned to the disc upon playback. If the overwrite head is the problem, it must be replaced.

As the deck has been repaired (simple head cleaning), I also send a PM to cipher81. So get fast. Once price is agreed, I give you Pierre's e-mail to conclude the transaction. Price is 80 euros including shiping (Europe). Remote + user manual in D, NL, S and I.

OK then, I contact Pierre and come back with a price in a few days (Personnal Mail soon).

If you live in Saigon, we can share our love of the MD format. Pierre live in France so the shiping will be HUGE for Vietnam. Anyway the MDS-W1 is not anymore available. But you have another option, to buy a deck in Vietnam. I have already checked in Saigon, they are in Nhat Tao area (in poor electronic - sound distorsion - sometime), you will have a better choice with boomboxes and bookshelves. Or, but expensive, in the shop behind Song A in Huỳnh Th

I sent you an e-mail on your @ono.com box

It is sadly what happened to bobt's deck during is shipping. It is very important to open the deck and protect the section power from any damage during the long trip.

Correction, no more JA30ES. Are you interested in the JA20ES ? New price can be applied. http://forums.sonyinsider.com/index.php?showtopic=24861&st=0&p=170217&fromsearch=1&#entry170217

Sound recording will best enough for your stereo system. But it is better to use your Hi-Mds units as they have type S so type R quality recording. Type R is the best for SP. Check my posts about how to record in real time (then SP) MP3s or lossless music from your PC digital out using Winamp + Wincue + DFX for winamp.

Yes deck sound is better for me too. And it is easy for you as the seller is nearby so that you can test is sound before buying it. Please notice also that in the future that will be more and more difficult to find Hi-MDs portable units, there are so much more SP/MDLP both portable units or decks. Myself I have also HiMDs portable units (MZ-RH1, MZ-NH900), a MZ-R510 et a MDS-B5 deck. This last unit as an incredible sound so that is the third reason why I choose to re-record ALL my MD music in SP mode, except on my 1Gb discs. The second reason is what I said in the first paragraph, here in Vietnam where I live it is know quite impossible to find a Hi-MD unit, not telling about 1Gb disc. At least old MD discs are always on the market. One can find a lot of very cheap boomboxes, bookshelves and decks. Sadly, it is a lotery to find a unit in good coodition except in the very center of Saigon (I do not know in Hanoi). You are lucky, you can find any kind of units nearby your home or on eBay. I have not that choice (recent units).

Sadly this deck does not work properly, Pierre tested it recently as cipher81 was also interested. But there is MANY midi sized decks in stock. Even ones with MDLP and NetMD. Check the list then the equipment browser of www.minidisc.org : Denon, Teac and Technics but also Sony MDS-NT1, Sony MDS-PCx...

still in stock, click on my profile then search in my posts. Price update, excluding shiping - MDS J3000 ES (200

His silver JB980 is sold already. But Pierre have still many decks to sell, so have a look (classifieds section also)...

This is a very old machine (1995) with basic functions. http://minidisc.ch/equipment.asp?todo=show&key=62 Why does that one interested you ? Perhaps the optical out... but this deck does not have type-R for example as any modern deck has. Where do you live ? I will ask Pierre to send me more information after your answer. You can PM me for more discretion.
