I just write some advises about recording in real time with a computer to wdraham http://forums.sonyinsider.com/topic/26923-mz-rh1-wow/ that are good for you and your blog readers.
-
I advise you to forget MP3 even if you can listen to MP3 with RH1. Rather choose SP or, on Hi-MD formatted disc, PCM or 352 / 256 kbps. If you keep SP, have in mind that SonicStage don't offer you the good one but a fake SP with LP2 quality. To be sure, record in real time. And if you do it from your computer (with an optical out), use your player with DFX audio enhancer + Wincue (if you use Winamp) + good audio output drivers like Kernel streaming and Asio4all. With this configuration, even your 320 & 256 kbps MP3s will sound much better. Personnaly I have a desktop with a SB X-Fi Platinuim audio card, meaning the sound is also modified (in better) with X-Fi capatibilities. My classical music, depending for you of your apetence for such sound treaments, is not necessary recorded with computer tricks... Make a simple test : compare the sound of (1) your original CD on your CD player (2) a MD recorded in SP mode directly with RH1 (3) your player with DFX playing your original CD (4) a MD recorded with (3) For this test, I used my MD Sony JB980 deck (24bit 192kHz) so I could connect the optical output of my CD player to the S/PDIF MD input and the coaxial audio optical output of my SB X-Fi audio card to my MD coaxial input. As this, both the Cd and the computer use the MD DAC. Dowloading Flac files in 24bit 96KHz and recording them with this configuration will explode literaly your Etymotic ER-4P earphones with the RH1 ! As these earphones are very analytics, you will be able to choose the right level for each album for DFX audio enhancer and Xi-Fi.

Ok, note that I hope that shipping will not cost me 50$... for me I said 200$ considering shipping will be between 20 and 30$. I need to check next days.
-
Exactly. 20$ is not even the price for spare parts. As there are 2 more batteries (expensives), a brand new remote and its functionnalities in order (listening, recording, uploading), the price is 150$. Plus 30$ with the 10 discs. Plus shipping from Vietnam. Let us say 200$ in total. Do you check imageshackus ?

MarZuRH1pilami Houba ! I have an extra fur (green) in case
-
Hi walkdude, I have the perfect (grey) MZ-RH1 for you, azureal will be "sur le cul" like we said in France - scratched to hades because I put sticky fur on it to hide previous scratches, sadly I did more scratches just to get the fur off (even did not thought that petrol existed) - some false contacts (hood screws are missing) but work fine with a binder (!) - jog does not work properly (take time to change something in the menu) but - I have a Hi-MD remote (not original one but brand new) - I have a charger (also not original one, Motorola charger, work perfectly) - 3 LIP-4WM ! - listening and recording both work as long you are patient if you need to change something in the menu - PC editing and uploading work also - I even have 10 Hi-MD disks... Cannot upload pictures today (one day lucky, another unlucky) with Sony Insiders forum tool so I upload pictures to imageshack.us/ : http://imageshack.us.../p10100902.jpg/ I live in Vietnam, I have Paypal too, I can send it with EMS worldwide mail express service Make me an offer (excluding postage)

Right now I use my JB980 as a DAC with my computer, exactly like you said. And even more, I use DFX Enhancer (fxsound.com) for Winamp. As DFX is also available with iTunes, you will be happy to discover that, using lossless quality files or a CD, you can have a better sound than any so-called high-end CD player once you connect your MD deck to a good amplifier. My Cyrus IIIi don't have any optical in entry so I am glad to use my deck. I am just sad that my deck does not have more than one S/PDIF, I must use the coaxial for a second connection.

Very kind of you Azureal but it is my rig. This picture came from a vietnamese audio shop. The Sansui speakers are not yet in my house, maybe in two or three days more. But I will take a picture with them, my Cyrus IIIi and my Sony JB980 once everything set up.
-
First I have decided to bought second-hand loudspeakers. Sansui S-7XV I have found for 200$ (they sound like end 80's Rega Ela with my CyrusIIIi). Then I will be ready for any new CD player. Better an Sony ES if I can I can get a synchro recording with my JB980...

Make yourself clear, I had to find out what PSN meant. It is not an evidence that it mean Play Station Network as I suppose. Anyway if any minidisc lover like me is to be a hacker one day, I will rather attack MP3 player manufacturers, not Sony in particular.

Hi folks, My CD Dad3 Cyrus player has his optical lens kaput, I am sorry not finding a guy in HCM city ready to change it as they don't now this brand name... Maybe I will be lucky one day. So I don't have right now a good CD player at home. Nethertheless, I can buy a new one in a huge choice of second hand CD players. From the very basic level to high-end models (10$ to more than 1500$). I have my minidisc deck Sony JB980 so I was wondering why buying a CD player if I don't realy need it (all my new recordings are done with my optical out laptop / Winamp / DFX audio enhancer and Flac files...). And I have two MD bookshelves with CD players. But as the price here could be very attractive, please advise me why YOU would still get a high-end CD player. some choice : CEC CD-3300 = 200$ SONY CDP XA30ES = 155$ SONY CDP X33ES = 205$

I can find hundreds of bookshelves and boomboxes here in HCM city (Saigon) but as you are, I am specialized in MD stuff ! Even without searching, my eyes can fall on rarities like Denon D-M05 (http://www.minidisc....enon_D-M05.html). In most of the shops in Nhat Tao district, they lack so much places that there are dozens and dozens of electronic decks of 70's to 90's stacked in their backrooms. Because of that, it is not easy to find a unit in particular and in a perfect aesthetic condition or even with a remote. The most difficult things to support is that everything is dirty and when you ask for something you get wrong answers. For example they often say that they can find you this or that but in fact they lie (it is just to force you to buy what they have, same same) or they get it twice the price you can pay yourself just crossing the street. The good thing is that you don't need to go far away to find another shop. Funny thing is that you find a shop selling brans new high-end electronics and McIntosh vintage amplificators behind the one selling ugly boomboxes. Sadly as there are some buildings rising around, many shops dissapear, for example the one where I bought my Onkyo Fr-SX7 and also found several Sony DHC-MDxxx bookshelves. Anyhow a unique post about suggesting to complete the minidisc.org browser equipment is a good idea.

Ok you are completely right Stephen, mea culpa, I was searching for more information about my new Panasonic SH-HD615 5CD/5MD bookshelf (with an amazing sound) when I found this one... Delete my post

I see that Panasonic / Technics SC-HD505 witch have a cassette and one CD instead of a 5MD / 5CD is proposed for $447 http://www.amazon.com/TECHNICS-SCHD55-SC-HD505-EXECUTIVE-MICROSYSTEM/DP/B00000K0JO%3FSubscriptionId%3DAKIAIFUYPMN7X4N5JPHQ%26tag%3Delectronic-cate-20%26linkCode%3Dsp1%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB00000K0JO

Panasonic SC HD505 - micro system http://reviews.cnet....7-30098656.html Manufacturer description Not only does the SC-HD505 sound elegant, but it also looks stunning. The system's sophisticated burnished aluminum panel design on the exterior reflects Panasonic dedication to hi-fi technology on the interior. Its stylish, modern look is combined with a subtle retro feel in the front panel's toggle switches and knurled volume knob, while the wooden speaker cabinets and attractive front baffles provide a singular visual style to your setup. Innovative blue side lighting accentuates the microsystem's striking features. This lighting casts a moody tint on the front control panel, and shows the status of your stereo operations at a glance. When the power is OFF, the display blends nicely into the metallic front panel. This system is as interesting to look at, as the music is to hear. This system's single-CD player is equipped with MASH 1-bit digital-to-analog converters (DAC) and a digital servo system, to virtually eliminate distortion. Additionally, the SC-HD505 is CD-TEXT ready, which means that specially encoded discs will display CD title, song name, and artist on the front panel. The Artificial Intelligence (AI) edit feature makes recording and editing CDs to tape easier than ever. For music requiring something a little extra, Brisk Low Frequency Sound (BLFS) delivers crisp bass, unobtainable by simply boosting the bass tone in your speakers. BLFS is ideal for dance music, as it brings out bass and drums without detracting from vocal clarity. A feature normally found only on large high-end separate components, the SC-HD505 component cassette deck is conveniently horizontal loading, for easy, quick tape loading and smooth tape transport. High-speed fast-forward/rewind controls are twice as fast as on standard Panasonic decks. The high-speed tape mechanism also accelerates the Tape Program Search (TPS) feature, which helps you locate your favorite song. And to protect the fidelity of your favorite cassettes, a microprocessor slows down the playback mechanism when it detects the end of the spool's length to ensure safe handling of the magnetic tape. The Panasonic Multi-Drive Bi-Amp gives you incredible sound quality and power. The efficient Bi-Amp design uses a dividing network to split the amplifier output into separate high and low signals, which are then amplified by separate amps. A high-efficiency voltage drive amp delivers massive power to the PP mica woofer, while a current drive amp provides the clean amplification desired for the compact balanced dome tweeter. Bi-Amp/ Bi-Wiring gives you an excellent balance between power and sound quality. This Microsystem's woofer is made of a composite of polypropylene (PP) and natural mica. This composite has high rigidity and internal loss, extending its performance response beyond the bass register up into the midrange for clear reproduction of guitar and vocal tone.

http://www.minidisc....SC-HD615MD.html It is not in top aesthetic condition but it is pretty cheap (120$) compared to the one I found in the center of Saigon (300$, http://forums.sonyin...__1#entry169329). Some pictures soon In the same shop, I found combo CD/MD decks, one Sony JA3ES, two Sony JA22ES... The bookshelf is for my wife and my son.

Sony Qualia 017 Mini-Disc Player - Complete - Like New
PhilippeC replied to barryeb's topic in Classifieds
Do you have some time to scan it ? It is not in minidisc.org equipment browser. And yes, good pictures will be welcome. -
I don't have this USB PC Link so I don't know its quality. Maybe our venerable sfbp can answer instead. Yes the sound car quality as an importance but Sony Vaio series are good laptops so... test the optical out and don't forget to use DFX ! Mediamonkey : you are lucky as MediaMonkey as his own DFX plugin (recently!). Control panel : make Windows silent. If you use Skype for example this will erase the beeps each time your friends send you a message !

Note the question but as you come back to MD see also... how to make great labels ! http://forums.sonyin...__1#entry170185 http://forums.sonyin...__1#entry169605
