For Sale:Case Logic MD Case & MDR-EX90SL & Blank MD's
BIGHMW replied to jernikfra's topic in Classifieds
You've got PM about the limited edition "MiniDisc" case with the Walkman "W" tags on it. Thanks. -
Guys, guys, guys.... relax. I own two 39LT remotes and can tell you guys straight up that while the NH700 lacks the VPF and speed controls the NHF800 has, that all of the other features and functions the 39LT has, including the Hi-MD-exclusive ones, will also work with the NH700 as well as the NHF800. Also if it came down to one Hi-MD Walkman that I can depend on and would use on the road, other than my RH1 at home, the NH700 would be my pick, with it's AA battery use, the multi-remote compatibility (I would tandem up both the 39LT and the 40ELK with my EX90SL IEM's) and the other features it has it would be my first choice. I know the guys over at Head-fi are gonna kill me for saying that, as I have already committed myself to using my NW-HD5 as my main player, but when the time comes (like if I run out of Sony's proprietary LIP-880 batteries and no more available for it in the future), I will definitely go back to the NH700.

As for MiniDisc being "dead", on behalf of myself, GuitarFxr, bobt and many others from the old MDCF who still use it, all I can do is say this..... BULL. As for Sony and ATRAC, Sony mis-marketed (at first) the MD as the successor to CD, in which it is not. But, it is the perfect replacement for the ever-flawed cassette tape, and when I got into MD back in 1998, I pretty much did away with using cassette tape as a recording medium. How ever you are right that the market wanted to carry more than just a few MD's worth of music, that is why, even with Sony trying to counter with Hi-MD, that the format failed, but, only on the portable playback unit basis. Even I gave in by getting a few NW-HD5 units, many for parts or accessories that came with them, and 2 others that were N.O.S. (new in U.S. blister package!!!) at that!!! I still use MD on a regular basis for all home, car, and studio recording purposes, including for upload (through my MZ-RH1, in which I own 3 of) onto SonicStage CP 4.2 to my NW-HD5 HDD Walkman, so the ATRAC family of formats is still alive and well here at BIGHMW.com Headquarters. I also use it to record most of my vinyl and cassette collection to preserve the original tapes (many of them over 20 years old from my days in high school and having gone to school with Cindy Margolis for a year at that in 1983-84!!!), and we all know what happens when you run a tape over and over... it wrecks it that much more, so MD can still be quite handy when needed. I won the deck on eBay last week, and it came in yesterday morning (looks great ), and next week it goes in my WarHorse. It is currently being tested to see if it runs perfect and also has North American AM/FM tuning in it. And as for the other MDX-C8900 that is currently in it, it seems to have some issues with the right rear active pre-amp out (from the deck), so it goes in the shop to get worked on and when it is done getting fixed, it will become the backup for the C8900 (the new one I won last week) where it will ready to be put in if anything happens to the new one. Later on, after I am finished recording what will become my newest CD under my rap moniker AK47, I intend to get an XA-C40 Unilink multi-changer adapter for my WarHorse and hook up a Connects 2 Network Walkman interface to it where my 20 GB NW-HD5 will share part-time car audio duties along with my MDX-65 changer that is already in it.

Updated: Minidisc Community Forums And ATRACLife Moving To Sony Insider
BIGHMW replied to Christopher's topic in News
Will all of the topics from the old ATRAC Life Colloquium be restored and included on the new Sony Insider links? There are those of us who need access to the upgrade links (both software and firmware upgrades, especially for the NW-HD and NW-A series Network Walkmen, as well as all volume unlock codes for our EU-model owning friends) and classified ads that were previously on it. Thanks, Ray Jackson MDCF/ALC user ID: BIGHMW -
Right on T.C. I also have both the E3 and E5, and basically I enjoy using the E5 mainly with my MDR-NC60 (and the Japanese Version, with the Japan-only shorter [0.5m) cord at that!) noise canceling cans and my NW-HD5 and it just sounds great, and definitely better than straight (unamped) from the phones jack, although I know than driving it through a line-level output will give it even more ooomph in there.

I just found one on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT But I am a little skeptical about this unit, knowing this auction is based in Australia, will the AM/FM tuner work with North American frequencies? And also the $70.00 USD the owner wants to ship it to the U.S. West Coast should I be the winner seems quite a bit steep. Should I go for it, as it expires one week from this past morning (3:50 am PDT here on the U.S. West Coast), or should I try to find one from a pawn shop located here in the States knowing that it might go for a lot less here (on these shores) instead?

I'll pass..... but only because I already own 3 of them. Thanks.

RM-MC38EL remotes for $10usd including shipping?
BIGHMW replied to ceramiccactus's topic in Minidisc
Hey dude, I also own that same RM-MC39LT remote that I user with my NH700, and I got one from you for a very low price, and I definitely enjoy using it in tandem with my RM-MC40ELK as well, and soon, I will be the proud owner of the Japan-only MDR-NC300D Noise Canceling IEM. Of course, with the latest DTV transition the TV tuner portion of it is now useless but the AM and FM parts of the remote are still perfect enough to perhaps bring to either Seattle Mariners home games at Safeco Field or to Seattle Sounders FC soccer/football matches across the street at Qwest Field. I somehow can never go to a game without a least a radio in my hand to follow all of the action and also get live stats or out-of-town scores while at the game/match itself. But to also pack a few Hi-MD's for halftime or for on the way home should I ever decide to take the vanpool instead of driving on/off of the Bainbridge/Seattle ferry, and having that and the NC300D would be such an awesome setup, and unlike the NW-HD5 I also own at least if my AA battery in my NH700 dies I always have a couple of spare ones ready to go pronto. -
Although I went to a slew of Sony NW-HD5 HDD Network Walkmen (all with user-replaceable/rechargeable batteries with up to 40 hrs. of life per charge), it's a good thing I still have all of my MD/Hi-MD units with "AA" battery capability. 500 charge cycles per battery doesn't seem like an awful lot to me, and although I do have enough spare batteries to last me for years, I know that I will (soon) have to go back to my trusty MZ-NH700 for playback for the long run.

Ahh, yes, the good folks over at Head-Fi knew about FiiO over a year ago, when the E3 came out. The E5 is even better, and even includes an optional bass boost and its own volume control. It works great with the phones out but sounds (and performs) even better through a line output. The line out is perfect for those who use 24-300 ohm full-size headphones and also with higher impedence IEM's and buds as well. For more details on FiiO, log onto http://www.FiiO.com.cn

Got what I like to call the "MD Walkman Triple Crown" already. 3 RH1's (Black, all 3 U.S.-market) 2 R50's (both in Silver, 1 with back labeling scuffed off by previous owner, and 1 Australian from a U.S. eBay seller) 1 MZ-1 (w/ record button broken. I use it mainly as a DJ deck and also for live shows as rapper AK47)
-
True oh how true, As a matter of fact, I simply either use a remote with mine, or just simply use it with my PC to upload legacy recordings to my PC so I can upload them onto my NW-HD5 (same ATRAC/SonicStage CP compatibility).
-
Yeah T.C. I agree with that, and while they are at it, don't forget about the Optical out jack that the original MZ-1 had. And how about a Pro Hi-MD deck (and with NO SCMS at that) as well. Ironically enough, I myself got an MZ-1 about 2-3 years ago (for 70 bucks on eBay along with the AC power adapter and case only, the record button was broken on it, but can be fixed with another slide control) and use it onstage for shows as gangsta rapper AK47. It also makes a great tabletop DJ deck as well for those of us artists who don't want to lug a rack unit around with us every show.

Well, we're only two wins away from realizing our DESTINY!!! For Kobe it will be his 4th ring, and the Curse of Shaq will be exorcised leaving absolutely no doubt that Kobe CAN win without Shaq!!! As for Pau Gasol, it will be his first of many to come, he never got that kind of opportunity with the Vancouver/Memphis Grizzlies, that's for sure.

(This thread and ad are featured in both the MDCF and Audio T-Board classified sections) Hey guys, I was just wondering if there is anyone out there who has a Sony Mobile ES MDX-C8900 that they would like to sell to me, I already have one in my 1999 VW New Beetle GLS 2.0 but would like to have a backup unit in case anything happens to the one in my car. I also own 2 Sony Mobile MDX-C5970 decks for my other ride, my 1963 VW Bus, with one acting as a backup in case the first deck ever fails. I have both a 100% positive feedback rating on eBay and a verified PayPal account and address. Thanks, Ray Jackson ATB and MDCF user ID: BIGHMW

Exactimundo!!! That was why I was hoping for the Magic to win the East so that it would be much easier for my Lakers to pull off a sweep, rather than having a KB-24 vs. LBJ-23 matchup, in which in that case the Lakers would definitely have their hands full.
-
GO LAKERS!!! It's about time that the REAL MVP himself, Kobe Bryant win one without Shaq. And as for the one who calls himself "Superman", Dwight Howard, we have a generous supply of Kryptonite waiting just for him, as Thursday night's Game 1 blowout by my Lakers 100-75, lead by Kobe's 40 POINT performance, I can't wait 'til tomorrow to hars that we blow the Magic out of Staples Center again. I am originally from L.A. (born and raised from 1966-87), I am still a Laker fan as well as a die-hard Los Angeles Kings NHL fan since 1975 as well), and also as a displaced Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders fan snce 1982. Just because I changed zip codes doesn't mean changing team loyalty due to changing times, I consider that "bandwagon" jumping.

For the past several weeks I have tried to get on their forum to do some research, and yet it claims that the menu had been disabled and the board is OFFLINE. This is a very sad day for all of us who own any ATRAC devices (CD Walkmen, MD/Hi-MD players/recorders, flash/HDD Network Walkmen, etc.) Now we no longer have a forum we can call our own where we can chat about/sell/buy/trade our devices. I encourage all of you to PM or e-mail all administrators/moderators to bring back our forum!!! Thanks, Ray Jackson

Sorry to interject myself here, but the identical twin of the RH1, also known as the MZ-M200 will do the same as the RH1, the only differences being the model number and also the M200 includes a Sony ECM-DS70P microphone in the package, but other than that, they are exactly the same beast. You can easily get the M200 online either on eBay, MiniDisco, or places like Musician'sFriend.com or GuitarCenter.com, as it is marketed mainly to the professional market. It won't disappoint you, as I myself mostly use the RH1 as a Hi-MD drive, in order to upload all of my legacy (SP, LP2, LP4) MiniDiscs to SonicStage CP Ver. 4.2 to spill out onto both Hi-MD discs and also my NW-HD5 DAP. Every once in a while, I listen to my RH1, but mainly other than my HD5 for personal use, I play my legacy discs in my home theatre setup, or in either of my two VW's, my 1999 New Beetle GLS, equipped with my newly-obtained MDX-C8900 Mobile ES deck and MDX-65 changer, or in my 1963 VW Transporter Kombi Bus, equipped with the MDX-C5970 and MDX-65 changer. If snyone has an MDX-C8900 deck they want to sell, I am interested in obtaining one, as I want to get it as a backup in case anything happens to my current one in the Beetle, I do already two MDX-5970 units for my Bus, so I am covered there.
-
I hate to bring up an old thread, but is this great unit still for sale??? I am interested in buying it. My MDX-C5970 went out on me just last week, and I do know about the amp issues but I too, would use it only with an external amp, so the built-in one is moot point. Please PM me with a quote for shipping to zip code 98368. I do have paypal so you can send me an invoice as soon as I establish contact, so go ahead and PM me.

I too, use the EX90SL with all of my setups. except for my inline skate gear, featuring the MZ-RH710, which has a matching black RM-MC55ELK and EX85SL's also in black. Hey Wiz, may I interest you in this quick, easy mod (AKA the "Cling-wrap Mod") you can do to your EX90SL? Here is the link: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f103/sony-ex...-thread-193464/ It's simple, if you have a box of cling wrap (or Saran Wrap will do too), try it out, you'll be surprised how much more bass and better noise isolation you'll get out of them. I did this to my EX90's and I would never listen to them without this mod in place. After doing this mod, would you? As for the "Germanium Mod" that is also mentioned in that thread, you should, IMO, avoid doing that one, as it only cuts down the bass and allows more outside noise in to effectively drown out your musical enjoyment.

While the NH700 is a great start in the trahsition from legacy recording to Hi-MD or Linear PCM recording, you may want to someday upgrade to an RH1/M200 in the near future, although I do admit the advantage of having a "AA" battery-based unit like the NH700 beats the RH1/M200 in that respect. Also keep in mind that you don't want to use the SoS 2.0 CD-ROM that comes with it, you would be better off upgrading to 4.2 CP (with Win XP) for maximum versatility with minimal restriction. Also for playback purposes, don't forget that the NH700 also has full compatibility with not only all Sony LCD display remotes (i myself use the RM-MC40ELK, better find one fast, I think Sony may have pulled the plug on them!), but also, because it and the NHF800 are virtually the same unit (except for the NHF800's VPF Acoustic Engine), they both also work with the RM-MC39LT Hi-MD/AM/FM/TV/WB remote as well (as part of the digital transition, the TV band may no longer work, as it is analog-based).
-
Hey dude, just because ATRAC is "dead technology" doesn't mean it is inferior technology. In fact I still use most of my ATRAC/SonicStage-supported MD/CD/HDD gear as of this moment, and will continue to as long as I own it. I have tons of backup units so I don't think I will be joining the ever-growing and naive flock of iSheep anytime soon, this means Cindy Margolis also!!! Cindy admitted to having a playlist on her iPod, called "Getting My Groove On", exclusively for sex sessions, I kid you not! She admitted it on Playboy.com in the "Dirty Dozen" segment (kinda like 20 Questions only with 12 instead). Look it up yourselves, as I don't know if it would be against the rules to put up the link to it (don't worry, it has no nude shots on it so I think it would be OK to post it).

Minidisc: The tactile experience in the digital age
BIGHMW replied to theblueraja's topic in The Loft
Hey TC, thanks for the wakeup call. It's just that here in Port Townsend we are a bit isolated from the rest of the world and most of us don't know what's out there in the "real world". BTW, are we still on for selling me 2 RM-MC35ELK remotes in black (as included with the Japanese MZ-RH1) as we were talking about earlier? Hope you can get bac to me on that please. I can pay thru PayPal, of course. Thanks, Ray Jackson MDCF user ID: BIGHMW
