Hey @Richard, good to see you've found your way back 🙂 And a big thanks to @Christopher for getting things back up and running 👍
-
I'd imagine those bookshelf units are fairly challenging to work on compared to a full width hi-fi deck. So much technology squeezed into such a compact machine. Good luck with the remaining niggles.

The application was also updated to allow you to use Sony's official MDLP encoding, rather than the lower quality free ATRAC encoder it was previously using. I've not tried it yet but will give it a go this weekend. Details here: https://www.minidisc.wiki/guides/webminidisc#recording_mode

Another update of Web MiniDisc Pro came out a few months back that extended the copying facility to some Type-R devices. A list of the compatible devices can be found here: https://www.minidisc.wiki/guides/exploits

A new Techmoan MiniDisc video popped up whilst the site was off air. He covers some of the recent developments in NetMD software:

You don't hang around 😂 Good to hear it's fixed 🙂

Just remembered this isn't the case as I bought an MDS-JE480 a few months back. No remote and a bit scruffy looking but I was only after the MDM-7S1A drive as a donor for an MDS-JB980 with a persistent C13 issue. Had an initial set back as the 480 threw up a C13 error and then refused to eject the disc I had put in it to test it worked but after a quick belt swap it seemed to be in good working order. A check in the service menus showed the 480 had far fewer "miles" on the clock than the 980 (21 rec/119 playback vs 108 rec/536 playback) so hopefully it'll have a fair bit of life left in it. Swapping the drive unit over was straightforward enough (had a bit of advice/moral support from @kgallen 👍) - almost a direct swap, although the drive in the 980 had an additional earth wire so I connected that to the donor drive as well, and I am now back up to a full complement of working 980s 🙂

Think I've only picked up one new MiniDisc related item whilst the site was down, a (very fetching 🤔 😉) green MZ-E620: It's got some of the usual scarring that the silver painted plastic finishes tend to suffer from, and probably wouldn't have been my first choice of colour, but I managed to pick it up for less than £30 so can't really complain. It's a nice player (small, light, Type-S). Think it was probably a Japan only model as I've only been able to find a Japanese manual.

Hadn't heard of Byrdle before but got today's in four, using VIOLAS as my starting point. This was before I read the bit about it being choral related 🤦♂️ TBH, I don't think I would have it got it at all if I'd been trying musical words 😂 No idea re the boot disc, sfbp, but hopefully someone might be able to help.

We're back? Merry Christmas everyone 🙂

Picked up some small drawstring bags for my portables the other day. I got 15 for the grand total of £4.56 delivered from AliExpress. They're quite padded, so would appear to offer a reasonable amount of protection, and are stretchy enough to mean the same size fits all my portables from the largest (MZ-E30) down to the smallest (MZ-E909).
-
Talking of blanks, just had a quick look on Amazon.co.jp and MDW80Ts are available to order to the UK again (they hadn't had any for a while).
-
How much were they going for before @kgallen? Prices for portables and decks on eBay seem to be heading ever upwards still. Saw an auction (not one of those daft BiN listings) for a 980 end up at £500 + P&P the other day. Crazy. I'm glad I got (most of) what I wanted before the recent rise in popularity. I daresay there are still bargains to be had for the patient though. Realistically I have all the gear (and blanks) I need but it's always good to keep half an eye out for what's available... 🤣

MDS-JE440, divide rehearsal
BearBoy replied to Norman Raeburn's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Yeah, I'm having similar issues with the site. Using my iPhone I cannot access it with either Safari or Chrome unless I turn on "private browsing" in Safari. On my PC, it works fine via Edge, albeit with the expired certificate warning, but is hit and miss (mainly miss) with Chrome, unless I turn use "Incognito" mode. -
MDS-JE440, divide rehearsal

Any chance you could post some pictures @Norman Raeburn of the messages you're seeing? Might help try to fathom out what is happening. -
Welcome to the forum @Norman Raeburn 😀 Thanks for moving the thread @kgallen, us mere mortals couldn’t reply when it was in Announcements 😉
-
Glad to hear you've found a workaround for your problem.

I'm not entirely sure what you could use the "ToC editing byte by byte" for but assumed it was maybe something to do with repairing corrupted discs? Could be totally wrong though. Maybe ask the question on the Reddit and see if the developer can provide an explanation? Re how you access the ToC editing/cloning features:

Really nice looking machine, @Richard. Same goes for the red one in your other thread. Looks like they made a blue model too. Don't expect any of them are easy to pick up in the UK...
-
Cool design. Especially like the blue one.
-
Tried it again today and it (Web MiniDisc Pro) does now work with ALAC (Apple Lossless) files. Which is handy for me as 95% of my iTunes library was ripped in ALAC.
-
Sorry, the link was in my original post from the 27th but was buried in the quote and hidden from view unless you clicked "expand". Glad you found it and got it working though.
-
Wow, very cool. You really do have some exotic discs, @Richard. Do you know what the discs themselves look like?

Sony MDS-JE530 - Strange problem with dividing tracks
BearBoy replied to Alfred Stuckmann's topic in Minidisc
That does sound bizarre! -
My MZ-R909 arrived this morning. First impressions were good. Nice looking machine, pretty much mint condition. Even came with a free blank inside 🙂 Unfortunately, it also came with the original NH-14WM inside it. Which has leaked 🙁
