    Sony M70 released

I wonder if it uses the same sound chip as the 706. I guess there's no easy way to find that out, but when I bought the 808 I assumed it used the same chip as the 706, but the sound signature is completey different - equal in quality, but different. Now if I could be sure the 'Only-available-in-China-model' used the 706 sound chip, I'd find some way of buying it!!
  2. Yes, this is true. Also, you never hear any criticism about the Sony sound (even from non-Sony users). About 70% of my friends own various iPods, and definitely put SQ second behind user-friendly software, fast transfers, an abundance of accessories etc etc, and the remaining 30% of us have various Sony models and put SQ above everything else. I'd tried various daps before and had got rid of them as I'd never been satisfied with the sound, but once I had a Sony, my search for the perfect sound was over
  3. Oh I agree, it's really annoying to hear the same few seconds of the same song every time you disconnect. It's making me dislike the song!

    NW-S706 4gb...139?

That's kind of a relief that I don't have to pack it all up again, and it makes sense that they wouldn't be selling the expensive speaker system at a further discount (seeing as it's already discounted quite heavily). And £99.99 is a really good deal for the speaker system

    NW-S706 4gb...139?

I just looked at the Argos site again and it doesn't state which speaker system it is, very crafty! Maybe it's a cheaper system. I hope it's not the one I just got!

    NW-S706 4gb...139?

What?????? It was already half price at £99 (from £189) so I didn't get the Sony. Well, I'm taking it back next week and I'll get the 705 with it! You think they'd have mentioned it while I was there! Are you saying it's really only £49.50? But that's only 1/4 of the original price. I hate Argos, they're really fussy about bringing back electronics etc, I'll have to check their policy for returns (

    NW-S706 4gb...139?

OK, it works!! Haven't even bothered to look at the wireless side of it yet as I won't be using it for that, but the 808 fits on it just like the 706 did. Can't figure out how to change albums from the remote yet, so far I can only seem to go forward track by track, and there seem to be no instructions for using it just for playback - only instructions for the wireless aspect.Great price though, I'd never have seen it if it hadn't been for this forum )

Sure, it won't be for a few hours though

    Help Me!

That's just such crap! SS has driven me mad over the years with its disappearing artwork, splitting one album into 2, crashing my computer etc etc etc, but I like the sound too much to quit!

    NW-S706 4gb...139?

I hope so!! Just cancelled order as I'm going to collect it from the store. There's not much information on it anywhere, although I did manage to find out that it supports 'portable audio players'. When I had the other model without the wi-fi bit, I used my 706 on it and my husband was able to use his Creative Zen on it although some of the functions weren't available for the Zen, like skipping albums I think.I'll let you know later if you want

    NW-S706 4gb...139?

Looks like it's this one: CPF-IX001 although I couldn't see a picture of it on the Argos website. Just ordered it - it's got bad reviews for the wi-fi part of it, but I won't be using it for that anyway

    NW-S706 4gb...139?

If it's that model, it's a good price. I bought it from Amazon when it was £160! I sold it later as I needed the money, but at under £100 it's a good deal. I'll ring Argos later and check which model it is

    Help Me!

Have you tried moving the Fringe folder back your computer? Sorry if that's a silly question but I was never able to see album art unless it was actually on my computer

    Help Me!

Did you notice if the artwork went missing when you transferred it to the external hard drive? I'm only asking as the same thing happened to me when I put the artwork on my other drive. In the end I had to keep the artwork on my laptop where SS seems to stick it in a folder called 'Fringe'. Did you delete the 'Fringe' folder by any chance?

    NW-S706 4gb...139?

I just looked at the Argos site and they're selling the 1GB for £59.99 AND the 2GB for £59.99?? They don't mention what speaker system is half price.
  16. Oh hahahahahahaha! Welcome to the joys of SS. Yes, it's awful isn't it? But as I wouldn't choose a player other than Sony, I'm stuck with it!

    NW-S706 4gb...139?

I thought the same thing. In fact, when I first saw a picture of the pink version, it looked much much darker and richer that it turned out to be in real life, although the colour varied depending from which site you were viewing from. I think the real colour is closer to salmony pink . Maybe people were put off buying it once the colour difference had been noted. I don't think the majority of men would have chosen girlish pink as their first option. . .
  18. Yes yes yes, definitely yes. I had the HD5 for a short time, hoping to replace the 706 with it because I wanted the extra storage. But although the HD5 has really good sq (voted the best in its time), the 706 has even better sq. It's like the HD5 on speed, it retains all the smoothness, and goes quite a lot louder. I had the HD5 on about 20/25 and the 706 on 18/30 for the same volume. If you can sacrifice the extra space, I promise you won't be disappointed with the 706. Plus the supplied headphones are pretty good
  19. I'd like to know that too. I think because they both have very different sounds, it can't be the same chip. It would be nice to know as I'd like to make sure my next Sony player has the 706 chip. . . I really prefer the sound of it to my 808, (I do like my 808, but it's kind of a close second best!).There's already been a firmware update for the 808, version 1.02, but it didn't alter the basic sound signature as far as I remember. Does anyone know if Sony publish specs for the chips they use?
  20. LOL! Aren't your eyes even a little bit sore after all that viewing? My eyes would have dropped out and rolled down the garden path by now! I never watch anything on it, I can just about see full-sized album art on it Yes, the headphones are fantastic considering they're just the 'stock' buds. I think the last few Sony daps have all come with decent headphones
  21. I found out the hard way, twice, that I couldn't transfer anything back from the player to the computer unless they were all still in the SonicStage library. I automatically assumed I could just swap back and forth when I wanted seeing as everything was already on the player! I'd like to know if anyone else ever got round it
  22. I found a way to make the A808 sound exactly like the S706 - it's very simple, quick and I can't believe I didn't think of it before. Simply replace each and every CD you own with vinyl, transfer to CD - rip to computer - transfer to player, and voila! It shouldn't take more than a couple of years at most. Joking aside, I posted this because while I was listening to the 808 earlier (and still suffering a little from its shrillness I might add), I suddenly noticed a real warmth coming from it, it was exactly like listening to the 706 again, full and punchy and 'analoguey' (if there is such a word). So I checked the song and found it was the only vinyl recording that I have on the player! I guess that just confirms I prefer analogue. Next time I buy a Sony player (which of course I will) - how can I make sure it has an analogue sound before I buy it!
  23. Oh - that doesn't make any sense. There's already been a recent firmware upgrade to 1.02, so I can't see there'll be another one soon. Has anyone else had that problem?
  24. Tanneth, go to the front page/home where all the icons are, select 'settings' bottom left-hand corner - then select 'common settings' and either scroll down to 'Reset all settings' or scroll up. The option isn't visible unless you scroll up or down as 'Time display format' is the last option you'll see unless you continue scrolling. You won't lose any of your songs, just remember to use the 'reset all settings' option - not the 'format' option! Hope that helps
  25. There's a 'buy-it-now' HD5 on eBay for £64.90 plus £9.90 postage in the UK. He seems to have 4 of them? But looks like he only posts to the UK and your phone number indicates you're not here! But it's silver, not red. He's selling them 'as new', but more likely they've been refurbished
