Indeed it is all subjective, for what it's worth I was comparing my Hi-MD units and A808 by using the EX082 / Stanton DJ Pro 60's / SA5000's on each. (Tested same series of phones on each unit).

As far as I can see that only covers 320K not 352 vs SP. -

Thanks, I don't recall if this we did this already, but any chance of a "True SP" vs. Atrac3+ 352k? -

I don't own the NW-S7x series either, but come to the NW-Axxx from an MD background too. I agree that the A800 series sounds very decent indeed. Clear Bass is pretty good (although it sounds about the same as setting the equivalent normal bass setting on an MD unit with an HD Amp), Clear Stereo also is useful and sounds pretty good. DSEE I can't really make a lot of use of - it does make a little difference on some MP3 podcasts, but as most of my music is 352k Atrac I never use it. I think HD-Amp'ed Hi-MD units like the EH1 and DH10P may have some edge over the A800, but the A800 more than holds its own against a lot of MD players and is one of the best sounding portable players out there. (My Atrac tracks still sound the best on the Onkyo Hi-MD home system though ),

This is something of a pain indeed - most of the reasons for these anomalies are due to the fact SS stores most of it's meta-data in an Access database in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sony Corporation\SonicStage\Packages Also in there is the LocalCDInfo folder which contains corrections you may have made to info found by CDDB (this is remembered in case you insert the same cd again) I haven't tried backup and restore of this file, but this is where all the links about which tracks have which jacket art are held, how many times a track has been transferred etc.. If you are just moving the library between external hard drives, I would suggest manually copying across the folder that contains the music files to the new HDD taking care to recreate the same folder structure. If you then assign the new drive letter the same as the old one via Disk Management you shouldn't have to re-install SS. As you also say when adding a cover art in most cases SS creates a "jacket.jpg" in the folder that contains the music tracks. In case it doesn't I also have a seperate folder (called "Cover Art Import") from which I can always re-import.

I think this one has meandered along nicely for a couple of weeks , but doesn't seem to be going anywhere so if there are no objections I'm closing it. (If there are objections PM me). * Thread closed

He he - the case I bought in the UK at a Sony Centre. The AC adaptor (and indeed the unit) I bought in the duty free at Schiphol.

SP "Compatibility Mode" -vs- LP2 (Atrac3 132kbps)

Interesting result indeed. Thanks for this posting. I don't think I've ever used "Compatible SP", and doubt that I ever will, but it is nice to see this analysis. -
If it's only going to be using SS, then you can probably forget about putting on Itunes or the Iriver software right? The OS could be either Vista or XP as SS works fine with both, but you may want to stick with XP for the time being for greater driver compatibility for the other hardware you will be putting in the machine. As regards the disc(s), I would go for SATA or SATA2. You may or may not want to configure these as an array - again your may want RAID 1 (mirroring) for example to give you some better performance and limited recovery options.

If you have ripped the files from a CD just go the folder in Windows Explorer that contains your SS Library (by default C:\Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sony\Sonic Stage\Packages - I think), find the sub folder that represents the album in question and view the properties of the folder in explorer to get the total size. If the tracks are spread across multiple albums again go the the folder that holds your SS library and from the top level search for *.oma and / or *.mp3 to produce a list of all music files in the library. Select the tracks you wish using Ctrl to select multiple tracks in the search results window and right click and choose properties or press Alt-enter to see the total size for all tracks selected.

Richy's NW-A808 Pictorial There have been numerous pictorials of this great little flash player already, but I figured one more wouldn't do any harm. So here are a few shots of my black 808 and a couple of accessories including the hard case and ac adaptor. Apologies for the poor lighting of some of the shots. I may amend the pictorial at a later date. Also if anyone would like to see any other shots not shown here please let me know. AC Adaptor - AC-NWUM50

The supplied phones are not too bad I find (just use the EQ for the bass) - I had some EX71's but they were way too muddy if I recall and suffered from the poor cabling. I haven't really tried too many other phones yet with the unit (only had it a few days) - just the NC22's for on the plane. I will try my other phones with it over the weekend. I bought the hard case as indeed it was the only one that protects the screen - I could have got 2 silicon cases for the same price but they don't cover the screen either. This case cost me 24GBP which is pretty expensive (from the Sony Centre in Reading UK). However the case works great and the incorporated buttons work very well, including volume button on the side.

If you go to Tools => Options => Advanced there is an option called "Rename the corresponding music file when a track title is edited in the library" or something very similar.

Glad you are enjoying the unit - I use the same case with my A808 - I will try and set up a pictorial later this week of the unit and it's accessories.
