Thanks for your comments the only other differences between the Japanese black edition and the normal black RH1 (volume aside) is that the Japanese limted edition comes with a Kanji capable remote (displays Japanese characters) - the US / Euro model remotes only display roman characters. The other difference is the black JP RH1 has an extra USB cable ( 1 long & 1 short vs. 1 long only on all other models - silver standard Japanese RH1 as well). That's about it, as far as I'm aware...

I think you're right he is insane - the only thing different about the Japan Sony Style limited edition compared to the silver Japanese edition is the color. The Japanese black limited edition can be imported for around $426 USD from PriceJapan. The standard Japanese silver edition could be picked up again from PriceJapan or if on eBay look for a seller called "buyfromjapan". He has a rock-solid reputation and sells the silver edition for $338 plus shipping. The euro model is slightly volume limited 4.5w vs 5w output of the other editions but it is hardly noticeable. Again it may also be possible as A440 says to import from the US to get around this. There are likely a few stores on Tottenham Court Road that have the RH1 - possibly Gultronics, the Sony Centre Galleria further up the road (although it will likely be more expensive there) and maybe some others. It's been a while since I was there. Let us know what you find and if you need any further help.

Hi there - welcome to MDCF. * Moved to Find Your Minidisc

Thanks for the update - I must say I never had the problem in SB and think it was SS 4.0. Also the fact SB doesn't get updated with the 4.2 upgrade leads me to say that. Anyhow I'm fairly happy now it's solved.

sonic stage won't load "updating sonicstage database?"
Richard replied to martonadam's topic in Software
Did you download MDAC or the MDAC Repair tool? It's the latter you need and it's in our download section. -
Just an update, but it seems that this issue may actually be fixed in Sonic Stage 4.2. I have tested a few discs now and can append to previously recorded 1GB discs and write to new discs without prior formatting in Sonic Stage and the titles now show up fine on my Onkyo X-B8. Has anyone else tried this since upgrading?

That's great - if you don't mind reproducing it here, we'll put it in the reviews section.

mz-rh10 battery sidecar (a bit long)
Richard replied to mikemo's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
The service manuals for the NH900 & RH910 are in the downloads section here, we don't yet have the EH50/70 service manuals unfortunately. -
Those definitely look somewhat fake to me. The distorted Sony logo on the battery itself and the 1400 Stamina logo are suspicious. I'm sorry to say it but the vast majority of Ni-Mh gumsticks on ebay are fake. There may be a few more genuine LIP-4WM's, but pretty much any 14WM out of China is to be avoided in my experience.

mz-rh10 battery sidecar (a bit long)
Richard replied to mikemo's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Thank you for this great post - I assume this is not just applicable to the RH10 but any unit that uses a gumstick / sidecar combo (NH900 / EH70 etc..) - is that right? * Moving to Tips & Tricks -
Which are the best brands of MD media?
Richard replied to daibhead's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
If I'm not mistaken the newer blue 1GB discs are HMD1GA and the 1st gen simply HMD1G. -
Happy Birthday Jillako - have a great day!

Many members have inquired about how to import MD / Hi-MD equipment from Japan. One of the most reliable etailers we have found is PriceJapan. Quite a few MDCF regulars (myself included) have successfully used them to import exclusive goods from Japan. They will in fact export just about anything within reason. Although their website has improved lately, it is not immediately apparent how the order process works. What follows is a step-by-step guide that uses an Onkyo Hi-MD deck as an example. * Many thanks to Garcou for the original ordering guide In effect Pricejapan.com simply plays the role of intermediary (they take 5%) between Japanese retailers and the foreign consumer. There are several stages: 1) You look up – thanks to the links on their site – the best price for the product using either Kakaku or Rakuten - these are search engines that search for the lowest price across all Japanese etailers. Be careful to type only the model number without the manufacturer name; eg. MD-105FX; don't worry about the Japanese characters on the site; click on the link to the cheapest seller and once on the page copy the address from the address bar of your browser. (If using kakaku you can also copy the link of the summary page listing all the sellers). 2) If you are only ordering one product you can fill in the online form on the pricejapan site, but as you will also need a transformer, you must send them a mail in the same format. Here is the mail I sent to info@pricejapan.com a month ago for my last order (transformer + md-105fx) : 3) They will respond by email specifying the total price including shipping (but minus any possible customs fees payable on delivery) Here is what I recevied : 4) You pay the total amount in Yen or Euro via Paypal (or in USD / Yen if sending Paypal cash – see their site for full payment options) 5) Once you receive the payment confirmation mail from Paypal you send your exact shipping address and phone number to mail@pricejapan.com using the following layout : (copied from the online form) : 6) You receive an email from pricejapan confirming the payment sent and the despatch of the package via chronopost or equivalent (EMS / DHL) 7) You pay the customs taxes to the courier on delivery. Happy ordering !

I would tend to agree with the Memory Stick theory and would do as Ishii suggests and see if you can write to these sticks as removable drives. Are they in fact genuine Memory Sticks?
-
Indeed PriceJapan has no fixed inventory (same as Audiocubes) apart for a few things like projector lamps if I recall correctly. They do list some of the more popular items on their main page, but their main strength is that they'll export just about anything.

Indeed - the only Hi-MD decks at present are the Onkyo MD-133 and the MD-105FX. These are Japan only models and will need to be imported through places such as PriceJapan
