  1. Double check your CDDB settings, perhaps you need to register. Are you behind a firewall now? Did anything happen to your network at your house? Is your ports open?
  2. I have had this problem happen to me several times. Its the USB cable as Ishii said. Just unplug it and then plug it back in. You should all set thereafter.
  3. EVERYONE START PUTTING MONEY IN STOCKS!
  4. Hey XISPE, I was looking for one for a unit that I was going to buy. Unfortunately the Seller had sold the unit already. Thanks for letting me know though, I shall keep you in mind should I need again. Thanks JSP
  5. SP = Service Pack DAP = Digital Audio Player. Try WMP10 and lets see what happens. Let us know
  6. Pata, Is there a way that I can specify more characters than (30) in the title field ??
  7. I have no clue what the problem is with you. At best, I would check to see you have my the most recent SP for your OS. Do the windows update feature on your start->programs Then uninstall everything related to SS and your DAP, and start fresh.

    I WISH . . . .

All you guys hit on the mark with my gripes!!! I had 28GB of music on my player organized with tagging and grouped (uploaded together) in the same genre. Screwd up my DAP somehow and had to start all over =( !!!! After 3 days of leaving it the corner for being so bad and 3 days of heavy binging to forget my problems, I am slowly beginning to build my library over. The good thing is that I have archived about 25GBs of the music onto DVDs using GYM software. I could easily upload the tracks again, but I am going to further organize my collection this time. My VP version 2.0 will be MORE ORGANIZED and it WILL BE THE GREATEST!.....just gonna take me more time again! The big thing is that I never utilized ID3 at all. Everything was laid out in the filename. I see now how much trouble I would have saved my self if I organized with ID3 tagging. Things that will be improved: - album pics (rather than manually matching through the DAP, I am uploading through SS)...HUGE LOAD OFF MY SHOULDER - better file names (some albums I have dont have titles) - all albums not originally archived will need to be ID3 tagged - all albums will be ID3 tagged correctly - genres shall be better grouped PS - I will have old archive cds to throw away. Roughly about 26-29GBs of music. If you want them just pay for the shipping and boxing and its yours. PM me for details and a list.
  9. If your trying to upload tracks and you get an error message, yet tracks till transfer....I would think this is a bad idea. The error message is highly suspect. Let's assume that while uploading the database got all messed up. Sure the tracks transfered, but perhaps you messed up the database through the process. To go further, lets say you comp freezes while in the middle of uploading and you restart...during that process perhaps something got screwd up again even more. You try to do some other stuff while all the errors are happening and before you know it, everything is F.U.B.A.R.! You see what I am trying to say? I have not even touched CONNECT and nor do I have any desire. I barely use SS and when I do it is very brief. I do not have your unit, but I can understand your frustration with frustration that I have with my DAP. Granbajo seems to have a good system going and you should try that. All of us here have "a system" on how we use inferior software from Sony, you'll find yours (or in this case) soon enough. Good Luck
  10. I agree, I remember when Sony was the defining standard. With my tape player, with the MEGA BASS option.....oh man I loved that thing. I think I still have it stored somewheres.
  11. Oh boy do we have alot ot say on this topic Can I put in my 2 cents too ? I like alot of the comments I see - pata, ascariss, stuge, beethovernian +++ I do agree with the nonsense PR Sony is making with annoucements. I think attempts to speak of a "new better more functions do-das" gadget coming out for release are poor atempts to try to catch consumers, where all it may do is help make things worse by hyping things up. When it does come out, I am sure there will be gripes. Don't take me wrong I would love to see Sony back on top of the innovation chain, but I think they would have to take some radical changes to accomplish this. Competition strats from others seem to push out (whore out) any type of memory storage unit and slap MP3 player on it....the catch with these is that they are made so universal it gives them good reason for consumers to buy. Is this unit Sony is pushing the one with the BEAN design? I think this would feel pretty good, but curious to see it up close. Again support side must be closely scrutinized. As far as ipoo, while I like some aspect of it and others I do not, I am gonna have to stay on the fense for this. I was never one for the masses and follow the common road, but I always have the thought of purchasing one in the back of my mind. PS - what does one think of when speaking a music player, mp3 player? iPod has become so synomous to this that it is a household name....it's branded (i.e. remember xeroxs ? "make me a xerox of that" aka "make me a photo copy"). So much so I don't see how anyone can undo this.
  12. I that the only message you get? Is there any other explaination or error code? Take a screenshot and post please. PS - I do not see any reason why this should be unless something got screwed up somewheres. It would be crazy for a Sony product not to function with Sony software, but not unheard of (Connect, SS woes)
  13. I don't see any reason why it would not. I have the VP as well, I shall confirm this for you tonight.
  14. I need some advice from my fellow DAP entusiasts. I am in the process of uploaded tracks from scratch from my music archives. I am trying to make this as painless as possible and need a suggestion on an ID3 tag editor. I have tested out about 3 or 4 programs ( ID3-TagIT, File & MP3 Renamer, Eide3, and Zortam Mp3 Media Studio) and I am not really satisfied with any one of these. Basically, I don't have ID3 tags set up for any of my archived tracks. Everything was specified in the filename. I want a Tag editor that will pull the information from the filename and use it as field on a mutliple track basis. i.e. 01 - Artist - Title.mp3 I want to be able to pull the track #, artist, and title and put them in the corresponding ID3 field. Does anyone have any recomendations? Thanks

    Joke

Why does a chicken coup has only 2 doors? ...................cause if it had four, they would have to call it a chicken sedan... HAR HAR HAR
  16. PROBLEM SOLVED! Though I was trying to avoid starting from scratch, I could not isolate the issue. My database, file tree, whatever you call it was messed up. I bit the bullet and I'm starting all over. The good thing about it is, that while I previously had all 28GB of songs on it, I transferred them using GYM because I had ID3 tagged them and archived my collection to DVDs. This makes it easier to load back onto my computer then to SS then to my DAP. I can add pics through SS and organize a little more. YES CUMBERSOME!! But good dicipline. I am trying to stay positive. Thanks for all those who have helped my with suggestions and answers to my inquiries - OTIASJ, STUGE, XISPE and anyone else I forgot to mention.
  17. 1/16" ....=) I didn't know they made that stuff so thin. I would like to finish it more and have it match my black interior. I'll have to investigate. Thanks Stefan
  18. **UPDATE** Looks like some of my tracks work and some do not....this included tracks that were loaded prior to the ones that started my problems. I am trying to determine why and also how many of my albums do not play. I wonder if its at all starts at a certain date when my albums were added.
  19. I partly solved my problem. On a hunch I deleted one of the files in the folder. If you take a look at the second picture you will see a file called MACLIST1.BAK and MACLIST1.DAT. I deleted the .DAT file and renamed the .BAK extention file to .DAT. It seems that I solved the problem, and now I have some new problems to troubleshoot: - Vaio music transfer doesn't work anymore (tried uninstalling and reinstalling. STILL NO GO). - MP3FM allows me to add tracks and MP3FM/SS/GYM sees them, but won't play them. Also trying to play them unplugged freezes my VP. - Tracks added on the day when I started having the problem plays fine on SS/GYM, but still do not play on my VP and freezes. At this stage, I think it best that I delete the ~2.5GBs of music I added and reload them. Hopefully this can solve the problem. The only thing is 'Vaio Music Transfer' (VMT) doesn't work and though MP3FM will add tracks, I feel it won't let me play....I will have to test this. I am more interested in understanding why VMT doesn't work anymore. Anybody have any explanations to this???
  20. Interested to see if anyone has found anything related to this?
  21. Not really relevant to the conversations here, but does have relevance to the thread topic.... Would anyone know a situation why Vaio Music Transfer would not work, but MP3 File Manager would? I am having this issue, plus other problems. The answer to this could help me understand my underlining problem. Thanks
  22. BUMP. Nobody can relate?
  23. REF: http://www.atraclife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1564 For the first time I had this problem. This time it is something else and I cannot figure it out. For those who take the time to help me troubleshoot this, I am greatly thankful. The other night I loaded up 2.5 GB of music and again this morning it wouldn't play. Ater I got home from work, I repeated the suggestions you mentioned before. 1) I searched for for files that were old. (FOLDERS EXCLUDED) There were only 2 files that had today's date (4/27). All the others have 4/26 and they were not any others with way off dates. So I deleted the 4/26 files and unplugged from the PC. My unit didn't show anything under Genre/Artist/Album/Group. I know there is space used up, cause I can see it under system information under my settings. Now when I plug my unit back onto my PC and open SS, then select my device I get some errors that I have never seen. I keep getting this error message over and over. Perhaps you may recognize it ? 2) Before I did anything I backed up my files (FOLDERS EXCLUDED). So I put back the files and then tried the other option you suggested, 'delete all files except for 04CNTINF.DAT' then unplugged my DAP from my PC again. After that I get an error message from my DAP saying "Music Information update failed'. Also Genre/Artist/Album/Group doesn't show when I do this too and I get the SS errors. I am scratching my head on this one and going bonkers.

    I WISH . . . .

I thought I would make post of wishes that could make things A HELL OF A LOT easier for us consumers. We constantly gripe about support and it is no suprise this is having a big effect for Sony Sales. That being said let us begin: . . . I WISH I COULD EDIT MULTIPLE TRACKS ON SONIC STAGE !!!
  25. stupid question what does MTP stand for. I know the point your trying to make, but just trying to figure out MTP. In any event, thanks for giving me your input on DAPs. As I said, I am on the lookout too. FYI - You should check out Cowon's iAudio . . . .very nice
