    iPod vs. NetMD

I'm a loyal MD user. Being able to record my own music is just too cool. Using something like an iPod would feel too generic, not personal enough for me. I love my minidiscs too much.
  2. It rocks in a major way.
  3. Absolutly. I'm sure engineers hate having restrictions placed on them that limit their product's capabilities more than the laws of physics and current technological capabilities. Frankly, I think damn near everyone should be pissed at Sony music...
  4. My R700 is starting to give me those signs that say it might die soon, so I'm beginning my search for a replacement early. I have an MZ-N10, so I don't really need a recorder. What I want is the cheapest, smallest MDLP player I can find. I am aware that price and size are typically inversly proportional, but does anyone have any suggestion of the best way to balance the two? MDLP is a must, brand doesn't matter.
  5. Awwww dang it! I was too slow, I would've bought that in a heartbeat...
  6. Heh heh. NetMD really does seem like a godsend if you're used to recording 160 minute discs in realtime and doing manual titling. Good stuff! Biggles, if Sony listened to like 99% of the minidisc people on this site, NetMD would be even better than it is now...mind boggling, huh?
  7. I don't know of one, you might be out of luck. Have you looked around on Sony's sonicstage wepage?
  8. KIND OF illegal. I've heard it referred to as the freedom to tinker. What the hell is the matter with Sony? If I was Sony, and someone made a program to go with one of my products that improved the product and therefore raised sales, the last thing I would want to do is punish the guy. I'd hire him before I sued him. Sony pisses me off so much sometimes...
  9. Holy crap that is hot! The black looks so much better than the gold...

    Piotr Maksymiuk!!!

Huh? So what did Sulaczek say?
  11. So in other words.... Type-R + Advanced DSP = Type-S
  12. 1. Yes, if it is in SP mode, an older minidisc unit can play it. 2. Crippleware...you have invented my new favorite term to describe sony software. There isn't a way to record sp mode without openmg faster than making a normal realtime recording. 3. Good question...I imagine the answer is the tracks are still protected. I'd go check it out for you, but I let my friend borrow my MZ-R70. If I remember correctly, I once made an sp disc so my R70 could read it, and then tracks were still protected...this is necessary if you want openmg to be able to check back in a track.
  13. You mean the remote, or just the clip part? $15???? Try making your own! You could probably make one using half of a clothesline clip.
  14. Hey dude, I think that's cool. MD rules like that, yo homie. Or something like that. lol
  15. I think it does, but I haven't used it for check-out yet.
  16. Sorry for being the bearer of bad news...but an MZ-R900 can't "transfer" music; it does not have NetMD capabilities. The only way to record a minidisc using an MZ-R900 is to record it in realtime.
  17. Neat! That's really cool! *Gets on ebay, starts searching for old tape deck*
  18. This page is being moved to a more appropriate location. To record a minidisc, you need either an analog cable (looks like a cable with a headphones jack on both ends) or a TOSlink optical cable that has a minijack on one side. For the analog cable, plug one end into the line-out of the source you want to record from (if there's no line-out, a headphones jack with the volume all the way up and all the bass and treble stuff off will do) and the other end into the line-in on the minidisc recorder. Push the play button at the same time you flip the record switch on the mindisc recorder and the recorder will record whatever the source is playing. When you're done, hit stop. For recording digitally using the TOSlink optical cable, plug the fat, square end into an optical output and the skinny end into the line-in on the mindisc unit. Look for a switch on the minidisc recoreder that says "syncho rec" and turn it to "on." Now, hit record on the minidisc unit, then push play on your device. Digital recording sounds better, it seperates all tracks for you, and is easier to record with. However, you're less likely to have an optical-out jack to record with. Analog recordings make track marks (start new tracks) when you push the "T Mark" button or when the unit detects two or more seconds of silence. Hope that helps!
  19. Where are you buying an mp3 player that can hold 20 GB for $150? I have NEVER heard of a 20 GB mp3 player being sold for that price. I've heard of 20 GB iPod's being sold for as low as $300... Here's some disadvantages of solid state mp3 players (such as the one you're looking at): 1. Poor battery life 2. MP3 frequently sounds like crap 3. The hard drives crash 4. (Usually) no recording capabilites 5. Usually heavy 6. In my experience, FRAGILE Minidisc has none of those problems. Discs are cheap and durable, the quality is great, recording capabilites are outstanding, battery life is really good (usually around 30 hours playback on one AA battery, more or less life depending on conditions,) and minidisc recorders are so much sexier than mp3 players. They also tend to be really durable. The only downsides are recording; it requires slightly more time and effort to record a disc...but that's only some people's opinions. Personally, I enjoy taking the time to record a disc; it makes your music more personal and "custom fitted," if you will. You can buy an MZ-N707 for around $150 or an MZ-N505 for $100...sometimes even less than that. The difference between the two is that the N505 does not have a car kit or remote and it can not record from a microphone. The N707 has a car kit and mic recording capabilities.
  20. I don't think it's spammy only because I agree with you about "reader's topics" being exactly that, plus you aren't on the forums only for the purpose of spamming; you're an active member. If you're a programmer...is there any chance that you could make netmd related software? I'd seriously pay good money for some netmd software that is better than sonicstage. I can't check out your game now, but I will later. Using MD for sampling and stuff is a cool idea!
  21. I like direct connect when I'm feeling like actually applying myself. It has really good selection for files, but you have to mess with jumping from server to server and you can't download from more than one person at a time so the download speeds are slower.
  22. Now THAT'S an idea. You might not lose as much data then. Nice thinking, Daijoubu. By the way, Daijoubu, what language is your home page in?
  23. WHOA, Nate! I read your thing backwards. When you convert mp3 back to wav, you don't gain quality! You're wasting a lot of time doing that! The extra music data that was shaved off in compressing audio down to mp3 format can't be regained when you convert to wave.
  24. You don't like the spyware on kazaa? try out this program: http://www.dietk.com/ (Download button is at the top.) It's a great program that hacks kazaa and eliminates spyware and other such crap. it makes kazaa run more efficiently and downloads are faster. I've been using it for months without anything other than satisfaction. Check it out!
