That's a fantastic review, Leland..I'm glad your content with this unit. It's refreshing to actually see a review of a Sony portable music player that isn't completely blowing it out of the water. It's apparent that in your situation this unit is ideal. Grace us with pics?

Sony MZ-N10 USB Cable
-
Welcome to the forums. All hope is not gone - I would suggest you try uninstalling via the directions in the NetMD faq and install a fresh copy of Sonicstage 2.1 from connect.com just to assure it's not a software error.

For the record, Ewoudenburg is the webmaster of minidisc.org.

Sony MDS-JE770 Type-R DSP MiniDisc Deck ..or you could get a Hi-MD unit, which has the capability to play back MD/Hi-MD audio over usb [which you can capture in realtime with another program such as cooledit, audacity, etc]. I would recommend the NH900 or NH1, as it's feature-rich capabilities are within your budget and will most likely appeal to you most. Our sponsor, minidisco, carries these units and they will be available quite soon [click on portables].

Spectrum analyzation of WAV, 256kbps ATRAC3+, 132kbps ATRAC3
Christopher replied to Christopher's topic in Minidisc
You can simulate this test on your own with Sonicstage and the aforementioned softwares. -
Original information and pictures are here. Conditions: Using TotalRecorder software and a MZ-NH1 with the NH1's direct USB playback capability, the fine folk at the Digital Audio Labratory [at av-watch] have done spectrum analyzation(s) comparing uncompressed WAV, 256kbps ATRAC3plus and 132kbps ATRAC3, with the ATRAC files being captured into wav files. The comparison tests, using WaveSpectra, [with an apparent focus on treble] are as follows: 1kHz, 20Hz, and some music. 1kHz tests: ----------------- [uncompressed wav] [256kbps ATRAC3plus aka "Hi-SP"] [132kbps ATRAC3 aka "LP2"] 20kHz tests: ----------------- [uncompressed wav] [256kbps ATRAC3plus aka "Hi-SP"] [132kbps ATRAC3 aka "LP2"] Music tests: ----------------- [uncompressed wav] [256kbps ATRAC3plus aka "Hi-SP"] [132kbps ATRAC3 aka "LP2"] It's obvious that the differences between Hi-SP and PCM are nearly nil, amongst other things.

What's your maximum budget?

What about this amp compared to the Sharp Auvi digital amplifier? [which 9 times out of 10 has been favored to provide some form of improved sound] I haven't heard you digress much into that.

I suggest you uninstall via the directions in this thread and then go back to connect.com and do a fresh install of Sonicstage 2.1.

Look at this!!: http://www5.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=80857 I PM'd him and reserved it for you. He should be e-mailing you as I write this.

What's the model number of the Kenwood unit?
-
No. You cannot record from the radio.

What's your favorite band/artist/group, and why?

Nice choices, poke. Welcome to the forums, I really appreciate you coming out. How's that S1? [this guy is a co-worker of mine in case anyone is wondering - my latest convert ] Welcome to you too, sharonkurland. -
Noted in each manual is the mW for each unit. The NH1 is and will be 5mW worldwide, the NH900/NH700 is 5mW in the US [and I assume Japan] - 3mW in Europe. There is no notification of the NHF800's mW for Europe, and only lists 5mW for US and Canada? Odd. I'm sure we'll figure it out eventually.

Try this first - Shut down the computer. Disconnect the power to the router and modem. Wait a minute. Plug in the power to the modem only. Wait a minute. Plug in the power to the router. Wait a minute. Turn on the computer. PPPoE = DSL, right? If so, access the dsl modem by typing in the ip address to it [same thing to access the router, I assume] and switch the modem from pppoe [after unchecking DHCP if applicable] to bridged ethernet. Change settings on the router to pppoe and put in the user/pass. If that doesn't work I have a few other tricks.

Having problem with "Show all new posts"
Christopher replied to sxc's topic in Comments + Suggestions
A while ago I had implemented a modification that kept unread posts active until you read them, but the code was so poorly written that it slowed the forums down considerably. This is what I would do: ..and do as such: Visit the forums, log-in if necessary, go to the new posts and open the new posts within a new tab. That way you never reload or leave the original new posts page that you initally opened. I really recommend you give this a web browser a shot if you're using Internet Explorer, as it's terribly unsafe and Mozilla Firefox is much more sophisticated and secure. I haven't met anyone who's "made the switch" and hasn't liked it. -
Welcome, Ice. The MD digital amp is not "bad" persay [where did you hear this?] and would more or less be an improvement over previous units without one. Certain experts have cited that it carries no sonic improvement, but for your average MD listener employing MD units from generations ago it'll probably make their feet tap again. And if you fail to notice it, at least be content that your MD unit has an optimal amplifier [in the power-consumption sense].

This is why posting a new thread would be much more effective then posting in a heavily-opiniated thread. Please do so, and welcome to the forums.

Have a Hi-MD question that doesn't need a thread? [part II]
Christopher replied to Christopher's topic in Minidisc
..and therefore sucuumb to Sony's standard. Don't expect another company to lift the "restrictions" [which are growing shorter and shorter with each passing version of Sonicstage] in place by Sony. What is it that is troubling you, Tarcka? -
The R700 had a plastic back and a metal front if I remember correctly.
-
You see now why I post less and less. Skyther's like a zit [in this sense with details]. It annoys you terribly at first, and you retaliate [or pick at], but you eventually ignore it and it goes away.

I'm having some problems with that. In your opinion, what's the benefits of such?
