  1. We do not support this outdated software here in the forums. Please upgrade to Sonicstage 2.0 as per the directions in the NetMD FAQ and other related threads in this forum. Welcome, btw.
  2. Kept in the right enviroment [non-erratic w/o random variables], a Hi-MD disc could last ten years before I'd advise copying that data to a better format [ten years from now Hi-MD will be an afterthought]. I would also suggest switching the data between discs once every five years, as well.
  3. OLD: Congratulations, board! You now have 3,000 registered users. It only seems like yesterday when I first joined here and the forums were seemingly dead. Things have definitely turned around, and I'm glad that our user registrations are the highest they've ever been each month in a row! Also, congrats drwtsn32, you were the 3,000 user. I don't really have anything I could give you, but thanks for joining the forums - and that goes to everyone!
  4. Ah, I've answered this a million times but I like you so I won't scorn. We have no idea when or if a Hi-MD car unit will come soon. If one were to come around, I would probably expect it to come later this year or early next depending on if Hi-MD is a success or not. Keep your fingers crossed!
  5. You cannot do it through the NetMD interface. To achieve pure and true SP, you'd have to do it through an analog or optical connection. Search and you'll see more about this..
  6. Good suggestions, Leland. I honestly think that in time, we could see a decent maturity with this software. I'd also like to add: Let us Americans browse foreign Connect markets! It'd be cool to buy Japanese music that way..also, a choice in bitrate for purchases off Connect. It'd be nice to get Hi-SP quality tracks.
  7. Damn, if you're going to spend that much, forget your negative ideals about Hi-MD and get a $300 NH900. I doubt you'd regret that at all, honestly. Discs are pretty fair and the number you buy would only put you in the middle of your projected budget. If you really had to go MD-only, I guess you'd be good with pretty much any of the recorders mentioned in my digital amp thread.. i.e. Sharp DR80, or anything with a digital amp. I honestly view non-digital amp'd units as outdated and not really the new standard of portable audio like ones with such. I haven't met an iPod user or heard one that wasn't blown away by the Sharp digital amp sound. Same goes for Sony and Kenwood newer-generation digital amp units. No Sony recorder has a digital amp, except the NH900 and the NH1. Kenwood recorders? The only one is the DMC-S9NET, and that's a Sharp clone. Sharp NetMD units with a digital amp? IM-DR80, and IM-DR420 [i don't think the 420 looks are up you're alley, though]. I think with you serenity lies within the NH900. Not just you, either..with alot of people.
  8. Indeed! Sonicstage 2 really isn't that bad. It's the best yet, and hopefully 2.1 [with better PCM functionality] will be even better. Get's an ok in my book.
  9. The Sharp and Kenwood are player-only units [], and no MD-only unit can read a formatted disc. A MD disc formatted to a Hi-MD disc is only compatible with Hi-MD units. You've given me a good idea of what units would be good for you, but seemingly forgotten to leave a price range. How much total can you spend, friend?
  10. I believe it to be - the features within Hi-MD are a world beyond the current capabilities of the current MD format. Don't you agree?
  11. Interesting. Try different headphones for me, and most importantly, what kind of headphones are you using?
  12. If they were to end supply and support for MD players, they would most likely put those resources towards the Hi-MD players.
  13. Welcome Sebastian, I look forward to reading further posts from you.
  14. Welcome, Glenn. I think that you should read up the Find Your Minidisc forum a bit and see some the recommendations I've made to others, and also keep an eye on eBay for used models. The Live Recording forum has some great recommendations by a fellow named A440 [and others]. Nonetheless, maybe you should look into a Sharp unit? I assume you would be primarily interest would be recording, no? If so, then I think you may want to wait for a Hi-MD unit. This new version of Minidisc has much more flexibility than whatever your friend probably showed you. Wait another month or two and pick up a NH800. Search the forums and read the main site, minidisc.org, for more info. Good luck!
  15. It could be the bitrate of the music file that was converted in the first place. Were these CD rips or *.mp3's?
  16. Hm. What's the price range and features you wish to have?
  17. Heh. Welcome indeed. A wise idea would've been to look at our very informative forums via "search" and our equipment browser. If you had done so, you'd realize that this unit cannot really exploit the awesome functionality of PCM recording as the NH600 doesn't have a mic or digital in! If I were you, I would've waited and picked up the NH800 or NH900. I think you would've been much more satisfied.. ..and if you wanted a *.mp3 player, then sadly, I think you should've looked into a MP3 player! Hi-MD/MD is a niche format that has certain limitations but definite appeal [i.e. live recording] to a certain esoteric genre of people. Unfortunately, people come and delve right into the format(s) without really knowing what it can and cannot do..hence frustration.
  18. Cool color variations there, and nice find.
  19. I have no affiliation with either sides of the bickering - I just believe that such activity shouldn't spawn from a forum such as this. I don't believe any further discussion is necessary about this matter. Grow up, guys.
  20. Which is a real shame. I wish Sony would include "Music Move", which is a piece of software that allows on-the-fly encoding for the new Vaio harddrive portable music player in ATRAC. If they included that with Hi-MD, it would be a very nice perk.
  21. There is a possibility. Who makes the discs? http://minidisc.org/hi-md_faq.html
  22. Yes, you can encode either Hi-MD or NetMD bitrates on a Hi-MD disc. p.s. Our Hi-MD faq is located here: http://minidisc.org/hi-md_faq.html
  23. Christopher

    Gahhh~!

If you don't need NetMD, then get the R900. There's more information about units in our Equipment Browser, of course. http://minidisc.org/equipment_browser.html
  24. Please take this to PM's..I don't want this crap in threads for people to read. Its pointless! p.s. Skyth, you should put what you really have in your sig, you liar.
  25. I think it's definitely possible with the Hi-MD format. It's not a question of "if", it's "when". If not a stand-alone drive that is purchaseable at a retail outlet, at least definitely with the Vaio series of computers. Who knows, maybe Sony will step up and release a 5.25" drive or equivalent..it depends if Hi-MD is a success or not, I suppose.
