Give this a read: http://minidisct.com/forum/showthread.php?...&threadid=17767

Well, in my opinion the best starting unit is the NH900, unless you're interested in the asthetics of the NH1. The cons? Battery life isn't that great [it isn't on the other units, either], no 3-line remote like the NH1, and the lack of time stamping. Look at this btw: http://www.minidisc.org/part_Hi-MD_Sony.html
-
Actually, you can use Sonicstage with this unit, but you'd have to use 1.5 instead of 2.0..
-
No portable non-professional unit has had a digital out since 1992. There have been quite a few units with a dedicated line out, however..
-
Did you have a previous version of Sonicstage, OpenMG or anything else related installed before you installed Sonicstage 2? Welcome to the forums, btw.
-
Well, it's obvious from the last message that batteries are the issue. What unit are you using?
-
Welcome to the forums. I would definitely recommend trying a different battery, and/or submitting the unit to a service center for diagnosis. If you're not interested in that, why not just purchase an external charger for the battery?
-
I think it is definitely possible. I read alot about optical storage and the compression techniques that Hi-MD exploits and the possibility is definitely there. Compatibility is another thing, however..but I wouldn't be surprised to see a 5 gb Hi-MD disc later down the road.

Have a Hi-MD question that doesn't need a thread?
Christopher replied to Christopher's topic in Minidisc
It is Europe-only. I believe all Hi-MD units will have USB-power functionality. It "screws-in" the bottom of the unit, so essentially it does connect directly to the unit. The system knows the cell is rechargeable, and we don't need to get into the specifics of that. The reason why Sony included such low mAh batteries was to save costs, but yes, you can effectively use a higher-mAh battery and achieve much better life. Not many people are aware of this.. Yes, it is contained solely on the remote, and will not work without being connected to the unit. http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?p=19090 http://minidisc.org/hi-md_faq.html#r_q93 for the bitrates. There are two modes on a Hi-MD unit; Hi-MD and NetMD mode. Obviously each one has it's own limitations - NetMD mode for compatibility and functionality and Hi-MD mode for superior functionality. There are no limitations on check-in and check-out. Download Sonicstage 2 and give it a shot for yourself; it's available in the NetMD forums. I also request that next time you search the forums and look over the main site, minidisc.org. Alot of these questions could've been answered that way. -
I will note that the radio remote's reception has been regarded as decent, but nothing spectacular. More of a gimmick, if you ask me..
-
He said he was, but I don't know for sure.
-
This is the only Hi-MD portable unit with a radio. Please search next time for information about digital amps, as I wrote a pretty large summary here: http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?p=19090

Some people are content with only that. Download-only units are quite popular in certain circles..

Welcome to the forums! ^^ 1. Uninstall all OpenMG related software via the Add/Remove Programs control panel and reboot as necessary. This means, OpenMG 2.2, related 'Limited Patches' and the 'Secure Module', SonicStage, Simple Burner, and RealOne. Make sure that you unplug your unit. 2. If you run Windows XP, proceed to delete directories within 'Program FilesAll UsersApplication DataSony Corporation' 'Program FilesCommon FilesSony Shared' 'Program FilesSony' relating to OpenMG. 3. Start -> Run -> regedit. The 'Registry Editor' utility should appear on your screen. Delete the references to OpenMG located under 'HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareSony Corporation' and 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareSony Corporation' by right-clicking on the entries. 4. Download the newest versions of the NetMD software. After installation, start the software and plug in your unit. Download the latest version of Sonicstage here: http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=4210

Welcome to the forums. Per chance, did you purchase this unit in Europe?

Will Sony Hi-MD support direct recording of radio?
Christopher replied to kickingVegas's topic in Minidisc
Hiya, and welcome to the forums. Unfortunately, the answer is no. -
Well, the one I primarily use the most is the DS8 for playback-only purposes, as it's a player-only unit. It features incredible sound and I love it dearly. The second-most used unit is my Sharp SD-NX10 bookshelf, which resides in my room and handles a few of my recordings and when I want to listen to MD's in my room. The MZ-E7W I merely purchased as a collector's item. When I saw it on eBay, the price was way low and I had the money to splurge. It's one of my favorite units of all time. I [rarely] use the MZ-S1 for NetMD. I suppose I'm just eccentric and love my Minidisc equipment.

I tried to make him a moderator but he wouldn't have it. He is a true asset for this board and I hope that he continues to give great advice to those he can.

I've read at another forum of this type of issue and unfortunately you're only option is repair. Is it still under warranty? Welcome to the forums, btw.

MZ-R700 - Can't access menu. Please help a newbie!
Christopher replied to Dementra's topic in Minidisc
Hm. Did you try hacking it, and that's why it's not functioning properly? If so, yes, you should try and reset it. http://www.minidisc.org/sony_mzr_reset.html -
Please look at the documents at the top of the forum first. Try uninstalling as per the directions here: http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=4171 ..and then install Sonicstage 2 as per the directions here: http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=4210

Just got my 1st MD- JVC XM-R70SL -is it a good one?
Christopher replied to rustedshut's topic in Live Recording
It's not a bad unit, pre-MDLP and has a decent battery life. I'm sure it'll be a fine SP-only recorder. I'm going to go ahead and move this to Live Recording so you can get some tips from someone who may be able to help you.. -
The only thing I can recommend is completely uninstalling SS 2 via the directions here: http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=4171 and then reinstalling it again.
