Rugged, with a mic input. Hm.. I could consider the Sharp MD-MT290, Sharp IM-DR420 or maybe the Sharp DR7. Sony's recorders are nice, but a unit out of this trio should give you the best results. Will you be doing SP-only recordings? How do you plan to upload? [in this scenario, without Hi-MD, you'd have to have a deck/'shelf with optical out and a soundcard with optical in. p.s. I merged your double-posted topic. Please do not double-post in the future. Thanks

Welcome to the forums. I think this is what you need... http://64.224.241.89/downloads/netmd_driver.zip

Welcome to the forums. First off, before we start, do you have your own Minidisc player, or are you going to use his? Additionally, can you locate the model number on the unit for me? It'll probably be something similiar to MZ-N# or MZ-R#. When you tell us the model number then we can help. Good luck, apprentice!

I like this idea, and I've seen a similar story on how this would be available soon for many US concerts with CD-R's instead of little usb keydrives. Either way, it's a fantastic idea if they encode it with a decent bitrate. I'm moving this to music + etc.

Have a Hi-MD question that doesn't need a thread?
Christopher replied to Christopher's topic in Minidisc
Welcome to the forums. So, you're looking for a MD unit [or Hi-MD in this case] and/or disc that will play in the car and at home? If so, there are no Hi-MD car units yet, but if the format gains popularity when it arrives then I have no doubts that we will see a car unit. Belt/armband cases, pouches, poor headphones, remotes [maybe], perhaps wireless accessories [doubt it], and much more. The options for accessories are somewhat limited in the first place, so use your imagination and you'll probably come to similiar conclusions. -
Thank you for making this list, it will be quite helpful to those who are interested. I'll go ahead and make it a sticky for a while, too.

Have a Hi-MD question that doesn't need a thread?
Christopher replied to Christopher's topic in Minidisc
I think what jade meant was - a digital amp doesn't enhance the recording process in any possible way. -
SonicStage does not support the file format of the track.
Christopher replied to .me's topic in Minidisc
What kind of file are you trying to transfer? Welcome to the forums, btw. -
Would both of these units come with all accessories? I just looked at the specs for both units and I would probably swing with the R909. Even though Sharp is known for their recording ability with portable MD recorders, the Sony would probably be the clear winner in this case.

Ok. I talked to David Karon of Minidisco tonight - nice guy! Anyway, he informed me that they are forecasting that Hi-MD will indeed not arrive until mid or late June. Whilst this isn't the offical word, I honestly believe it just the same as calling Sony. He informed me that there's a manufacturing issue with the actual discs and they're working on it. We'll see what unfolds..

Byte for byte [and functionality wise], iceeedtea's version still seems to be the best.

caledesign + MDGB2, welcome to the forums. Anyway, cale, you will not be able to transfer the music back to your computer [at least in this sense]. The only way you could do this would be to get a deck/bookshelf with optical out and a soundcard with optical in and do a 1:1 dub. Unfortunately all prior recordings made with pre-existing MD units cannot be uploaded with Hi-MD equipment, whether it be through Sonicstage or the USB mass storage option. Let me make this clear - the USB mass storage option will not see any music recorded on a Hi-MD disc that is playable on the unit. It will only see data you've transfered. There are two parts to a Hi-MD disc; the part that contains your music that is playable on the unit, and the data. Each are seperate from each other. -
Probably a thousand or two. I'm "guesstimating" on that figure, but supposedly we are allowed 2,048 bookmarks, so it seems like a fair assumption. If you heard one of these digital amps you'd probably retract that statement.

Do you know that N1 was made in Malaysia?
Christopher replied to gauss's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
I think I'm going to retract my statement. I've begun to notice a good bit of my electronics, including higher-end MD units, are from Malaysia. I think in the past the country was notorious for producing cheap items/quality of construction, but I don't think that's the case anymore [at least with some brands]. -
Doesn't that hurt your ears?
-
Welcome to the forums. Anyway, it's a pretty decent player. I assume you've read the spec site we have on the unit, available here. It's a fine downloader, no microphone input though. It's a very popular unit, as it's available just about anywhere. You paid a good price, regardless. What color did you get?

I will call them tomorrow and see what's up. Thanks for the update..

The board experienced slight errors whilst I uninstalled the "Keep unread" mod. Sorry about that, but hopefully it'll speed up the board a bit. EDIT: Crap. The forum is having issues pulling new posts. I am working on it and it should be resolved ASAP. Final note: Done. I really hate *.php. Board is FLYING now.

Haha, I didn't mean to come off like a gestapo. I'll be disappointed if it's only 20 groups..with supposedly 2047 bookmarks I don't understand why the group functions were so limited? ----------- JD24, http://minidisc.org/keep/walkman_specs_fy04.pdf

Have a Hi-MD question that doesn't need a thread?
Christopher replied to Christopher's topic in Minidisc
I think he was just referring to a radio itself. If the radio has a digital out [which I'd be surprised at], then you'd need a digital cable with the appropriate ends [toslink to toslink, most likely]. If the radio has an analog out, then I'd go with a male-to-male stereo cable. Here's a simple reminder: double the kbps of an Atrac3plus bitrate and that's the *.mp3 equivalent. Whilst that statement does have some holes in it, I will note that hypothetically, 48kbps Atrac3plus should sound better than 66kbps Atrac3 - it's all subjective, and the only way you'll know if it sounds better or not is if you hear it. -
If you want to transfer from the computer to a NetMD unit, then yes that's possible - and yes, it's high-speed [given the unit]. What's your budget and what unit were you considering, mega?

Kevin, if you remember, that one mysterious *.pdf spec sheet said Hi-MD only has 20 groups. Whilst we can't base this information to be 100% accurate, it's what we've got for now.
