The only exception that I have found is the MZ-E900 player-only unit. I haven't been able to get the beep disabled on this unit whilst using the remote. Very annoying.

I'm not sure if a walkthrough has been written or not... If you have CD-RW discs, you can just use them. Use your Mp3's to burn an audio CD with whatever program you use for CD burning (CDBurnerXP Pro is a good freeware one) and then use Simple Burner (available in the "downloads" section here in the forums) to transfer the CD to MD. Be sure to select NetMD format in options. If the CD burning program you use has the ability to write a "CD Image" (.nrg, .iso, or .bin/.cue), write the audio CD as an image and use a program such as "DAEMON Tools" (http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/download.php), or "Nero ImageDrive" to mount the image, then fire up Simple Burner as before and transfer. What CD burning program do you use?
-
As I mentioned, if it is transferred via Simple Burner (in NetMD mode) you can edit all you want. I have done this numerous times and am positive it works.
-
1) Burn the track(s) to a Virtual or Actual CD 2) Mount or insert the CD 3) Use Simple Burner to transfer the tracks in NetMD mode (LP2 or LP4) 4) Edit all you want on the unit! - SonicStage transfers = No editing on unit (regardless of transferred format). Simple Burner = Editing possible with NetMD modes, but not Hi-MD modes.

FLAC Attack! Hehe. seriously though- FLAC is awesome, and OPEN. Glad to see SONY is heading in the right direction.
-
LP4 can be uploaded fine with the RH1/M200 and converted to WAV, which can be edited using Audacity or any other audio editing program.
-
Actually, to clarify a bit... Those are the only units that will upload material to Macintosh. The RH10, RH910 & RH710 are able to download mp3 files from Mac, they just can't upload anything.
-
Thinking of getting an RH1, couple of questions...
raintheory replied to watcher666's topic in Minidisc
You can upload your legacy recordings via USB with the RH1 provided that the discs weren't created using SonicStage on another computer.. If you have a lot of material in legacy formats, the RH1 may be the only way to get that material uploaded digitally (and faster than realtime) and into some other "open" format. Nobody is very sure about the future of Hi-MD, but as I said if you have a lot of older discs the RH1 may be worth it for you/ -
Only the M10, M100, & RH1/M200 are Mac-compatible.
-
oddly enough the unit also doesn't seem to power down... it stops and all, but never powers down (until the battery dies of course)..
-
Its definitely out of warranty... and they can't add mac support onto the repairs anyway.
-
Yeah... I'll probably take it apart and look around for anything that stands out. I have a eyeglass repair kit that I use for "MiniDisc Manipulation" purposes

Yep, fell out of the car (wasn't driving at the time) and I almost had a heart attack because I thought the whole unit was completely dead... Then, I only had a mild semi-recovery when I realized it was just the OLED. I have the MC40ELK remote, which works great for playback... However, I cannot change the unit to manual record levels using the remote menus, which really sucks. I guess I could ask someone here with the RH10 to write out the exact menu operations to get to manual settings (hint hint) since the record levels are seen (and are adjustable) on the remote once the unit is in manual rec-levels.... sigh,, ... I feel bad too because I had given the unit to my wife to use, she loves the OLED. Though I might take this opportunity to find an M100 to replace it (since she uses the Mac so much). ...

If you need to be able to transfer recordings from PC and edit them on your recorder, the only method that I have found is to create/mount a CD image and use SimpleBurner in NetMD mode. Oddly enough, you can edit recordings transferred via this method. Anything transferred by SonicStage (any format) or SimpleBurner (Hi-MD formats) cannot be edited on the recorder.

The skips/dropouts/etc could be caused by the audio data being held in physical RAM and then offloaded onto hard disk when the RAM is full (could cause a CPU spike, or the disk access times might not be able to catch up... either way it could cause this problem, I have seen it happen) You could try the program GoldWave, (which I use most often) similar to Audacity... There is a setting in preferences where you can have the program record direct-to-hard-disk, which would eliminate the glitches if what I stated is in fact the problem. http://www.goldwave.com/release.php Alternately, in Audacity you could try increasing the Audio Buffer in preferences and give it a go...

do the tics occur on a regular basis? in other words, do they happen every 3 seconds on the recording, every 30 seconds, etc... could you post a sample of the recording with the 'tics?
-
What format are they recorded in?
-
I'm betting on the ribbon cable as well.. Happens fairly often with these older units, usually resulting in a number of corrupt TOCs and BLANK DISC errors. And yes, it can be fixed. Theres a post with instructions around here somewhere..

rh1 Mac OS 10.4.x, HighMD-Music Transfer 2.x: Can't import MP3s!
raintheory replied to T.W.G's topic in Software
it might be worth checking/rewriting the id3 tags... personally i haven't had any problems on our G5, but in Windows SonicStage has problems with tags sometimes. -
Wonderful machine there... Very intimidating though, we've had ours for over 2 years and have barely scratched the surface of it's possibilities.
-
Another possibility is to get a Deck or other unit that is capable of TOC-Cloning... Create a source disc in whatever format your nontransferable disc is, then clone the source TOC to your nontransferable disc... Upload away! More info here: http://www.minidisc.org/cloning_procedure.html You can also PM me with any questions, I've done a fair amount of cloning myself... Including the method I stated to enable uploading of NetMD material.

Faster than realtime, yep... The realtime method via analogue is what most of us here have been used to using for years, before the advent of the RH1. Any Hi-MD recordings you make with any Hi-MD recorder can be easily uploaded/archived, but for the legacy recordings from older units you are limited to realtime, or the RH1. -

The RH1/M200 can transfer your legacy recordings to PC via SonicStage. However, it is the only model that will do this...
