  1. Alternately, you could just setup a virtual machine on an external drive through windows... Microsoft's Virtual PC 2007 is free now I think.
  2. I'd be utterly broke if I lived near a store like that.
  3. Try plugging into a different USB port. You'd be surprised how often that seems to work for people on here.
  4. Provided they are Lagacy/NetMD... This mehod doesn't work with Hi-MD. Though I think theres a post around here with contact info for guys at Sony that can help with Hi-MD.
  5. They'll come around... MiniDisc recorders were bricks at one time too: from my post here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=16150 -- I do agree though, if a Hi-MD can run off of 1 AA, you'd think... The built-in mics probably account for most of the bulk actually. As I said before, as well as others: I'd like to see one w/o built-in mics.
  6. is that $88 for all or just for the R50?

You should definitely go for the E900 (if it has it's remote). I've got one and love it! Got it for $34 USD, came with all accessories and 15 blank discs... Maybe if you get it you can help me figure out how to turn off the system beep when using the remote too!
  8. Yeah I think this has made it to my list. Next investment. Not that I plan on giving up on MD anytime soon, I love the format too much. Man... Sony might actually be going in the right direction, it's been a long time since I could say that. I'd like to see a cheaper one w/o built-in mics as well.. "RH2" as ozpeter says. While we're at it why not make it FLAC instead of WAV... I'd also prefer SD instead of Memory Stick Pro.. Not that lack of those would be a dealbreaker.. but I'd definitely sell some gear to get one, rather than waiting till I could afford it.
  9. I don't like the built-in mics, as they don't leave much room for experimentation with mic placement. Other than that it looks pretty nice. 24bit/96kHz... Drag & Drop WAV... AA Batteries... 4GB Internal w/Memory slot... I think these will actually be quite nice when they reach a decent price range.
  10. You have to set the "Disc Mode" under "Options" to "MD" in order to record MDLP modes on 80min discs.
  11. yeah those are nice! they need one for the RH1!
  12. Actually the N707 lacks a high/low mic sens setting as far as I know. The service mode hack adds it into the menu, but it doesn't do anything if I remember correctly.
  13. What I've done for this using a cassette multitrack (that didnt have dedicated outputs) was recorded a short "clap" at the end of the recording. That way when I recorded all of the tracks separately into Cubase, I just lined the spikes in the waveform at the end up ... You should be able to do 2 at a time if you can pan each hard left/hard right ahd have 2 mono strips, one for left/right respectively.
  14. Actually I think the NH1 does have Date/Time stamp feature: http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-NH1.html Do you have the Date/Time set on the recorder itself? With the RH1, if Date/Time is set it automatically uploads them labelled as the Date/Time if the tracks are untitled. Welcome to the forum, btw
  15. I'm sure there are plenty of guitar picks/plectrums there as well.
  16. What I do for mono using Hi-MD is record it in PCM (even though the sound only comes through the left), and once I've uploaded the file and converted to WAV, use editing software to convert the stereo WAV file to a mono WAV file. File size is half of the original, same quality, and comes through both speakers.
  17. Hey no problem... 4.2 adds support for importing AAC files, so if you need that functionality you may do well to upgrade. I prefer 4.2 over 3.4, but if it works and does what you need it to you may as well stick with it. I don't think you'll run into problems if you do upgrade.
  18. http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=7070 I don;t think it was possible with internal MiniDisc drives. I think they were mostly designed for MD-DATA discs, except the VAIO drives that were probably NetMD, which is 1-way anyway PC>MD
  19. The difference is the M200 comes with a bundled microphone and says "MZ-M200" instead of "MZ-RH1" The units themselves are identical.
  20. Have you tried the MDAC repair utility from the download section here in the forums? Failing that you could try reinstalling MDAC completely. MDAC repair/reinstall almost always fixes database problems.
  21. True, it isn't something I would recommend doing if you only own one unit and use it extensively. However, for anyone such as myself who has upgraded to Hi-MD, and/or happens to have an extra unit sitting around collecting dust it might be worth a shot. Personally I did not initially modify the R700 out of a need for TOC Cloning myself, but rather as an experiment to see if it could be done. I had seen instructions for sony decks and older sharp portables, but nothing for any sony portables. I think it's definitely more reasonable to get a deck that needs no physical modifications performed in order to be capable of TOC Cloning, it's not silly at all. Plus decks are awesome, I've owned a couple myself. However at this time the deck that I own (MXD-D40) cannot perform TOC cloning AFAIK... As I cannot find a way to get into service mode. Oddly enough, I did own the same deck as you around the same time that I did the R700 mod, though I never tested or tried TOC cloning with it. I am very glad that you tested and confirmed that it is indeed possible. The R700 mod is moreso a project for one to consider if they do not have access/need for a deck, or happen to have an unused R700 lying around, as I stated before. The first portion of my post, that details the basics of the TOC cloning "theory" (or practice, one might say), is really the main point of the post. The R700 mod is just a little extra on my part. I did include a disclaimer stating that there is a risk of breaking your unit.
  22. SonicStage 4.2 is here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=17769 Many people (including myself) have had problems with 4.3, so I would recommend 4.2 unless you are running Vista. For what it's worth, I have had SimpleBurned installed and running just fine on at least 3 dual-boot systems, and a few Virtual Machines.
