From the (limited) information I've read, it seems that the iLink (firewire) only connects the stereo components to each other, and not to a PC.

From 4.0 on, Sonicstage has been AAC-compatible, I have used m4a and mp4 files on numerous occasions (though the tags never come across). If you purchased the files via iTunes store, they probably wont work with SonicStage due to the DRM (Digital Rights Management... basically restrictions that prevent you from doing certain things with the files). This is where the SimpleBurner method comes in.... SimpleBurner can be found in the downloads section here in the forums, it is used to transfer audio CDs to MiniDisc, so you'll have to create a CD with iTunes or whatever first. You can even create an Image of an audio CD (using Nero or a similar program), mount it with a program such as Daemon tools (or Nero imagedrive), and transfer it that way with SimpleBurner (saving a CD). CD-RW's are also good for this, since you can reuse them. EDIT: Sorry to hear you're having these issues trying to get music on yr MiniDisc...
-
This may sound like a silly response, but are you using the "Import Folder" command and is the checkbox for "AAC files (*.3gp, *.mp4, *.m4a)" ticked? What version of SonicStage did you install BTW?
-
Actually recent versions of SonicStage are compatible with AAC. Whether or not the file scanner will pick them up is another question, you may have to manually import the files. I do know that it isn't great with AAC tags.

You'll need to get Sony's SonicStage software in order to transfer music to your MiniDisc: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=9586

In tools/options: Under "Get CD info", Uncheck "Get track info automatically when importing tracks recorded to device/media to My Library"
-
Be sure to delete the old version of the file if you change the upload setting, otherwise SonicStage may still use the file that was uploaded as Hi-SP. This is rather curious though. Unfortunately I no longer have a deck with optical output to try to recreate your scenario. EDIT: Here are a couple comparisons I did a few weeks ago of various recording modes that you may find an interesting read: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=19276

http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=7070 It's all explained in that thread.

Blue screen of death everytime I try to transfer?

What Video Card/Drivers are you using? -
Yes it does. You can even take a picture with the unit and assign it to an album as the artwork.
-
I've had no problems either. And I've done quite a number of SP uploads. They do take longer than Hi-MD uploads though.
-
The MZ-M10 and MZ-M100 are fully Mac-compatible as well.. Though may be hard to find.
-
This explains it pretty well: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=7070

Depending on how long the interviews are, you may need to use Hi-SP, which should be superb quality for voice recordings. Standard MiniDiscs will only hold about 28min of PCM, versus 2h 20min of Hi-SP.
-
With older units (MD and NetMD), you could recover audio from this type of failure using TOC cloning techniques. Unfortunately due to encryption, this method does not work with Hi-MD. Sony may have a method, but there is no way (that we know of) that consumers can recover any audio data.
-
As long as you have your mics away from the unit, you shouldn't have problems with any modern recorders.
-
You can use SonicStage to input the titles/group names. Much easier than doing it on the unit,
-
Yes you can adjust the levels on the fly. Also, you don't need to record in PCM in order to upload, you can upload any MiniDisc format (SP/MONO/LP2/LP4/PCM/Hi-SP/Hi-LP) to PC using the RH1. If you are uploading to Mac however, you are limited to the Hi-MD modes (PCM/Hi-SP/Hi-LP). -- On the DCC subject, I have an Optimus DCT-2000 that works great. I actually use the darn thing occasionally too. For those interested here are a few pics of DCC tapes (also taken with the DH10P, as the original poster did ):
-
The track breaks will remain consistent, and the resulting loss of quality will be negligible most likely, and probably not noticeable. The quality loss will be due to the SP > WAV > SP conversion.
-
You should be fine with uploading these. I uploaded 30+ old discs (from up to 12 years ago) with no problems. Many had been extensively edited, so that shoulndt be an issue with these older discs.
-
Try a different USB port (you'd be surprised how often this works).
-
It should work just fine. Be sure to set the recorder to MONO, otherwise you risk only hearing the signal through the left speaker on playback.
-
You can record them to PC via analog in realtime using a 1/8" lead. You need a Hi-MD unit in order to upload anything. Some NetMD models have USB but NetMD units will not upload, so keep that in mind. Also you won't be able to upload any recordings you've made with your current recorder unless you get the MZ-RH1. Any Hi-MD recorder will upload its own recordings though, as long as you record in Hi-MD mode. Have a look here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=7070 And here to browse the models that are available: http://www.minidisc.org/equipment_browser.html

thats what i was thinking... I've heard of this as a problem with the RH1, but not the NH1.
-
The R91 is SP/MONO only... As bobt stated, you will need to use a newer version of SonicStage and transfer the tracks using "SP Compatibility Mode", otherwise they will not play in the older unit.
