    sounds like your optical recording head is fried...if it's still under warranty, send it back to Sony.

    as for your suggestion on MD holding data via USB, HiMD can do this already. Unfortantely, MD never caught on in the North American market. Everyone want's an Ipod.

    yes u can use the regular 80min or whatever mins MD blanks on a HiMD machine. u just need to reformat it as a HiMD blank.
