  1. ive only had one problem ever with a disc and that was my own stupidity and i was so frustrated.....NEVER SHAKE THE RECORDER TOO MUCH WHEN RECORDING or it could mess the disc up and erase everything......aside from that expeiriance md has held out for many years for me without any other disturbances
  2. yes unless you used the backup tool you cant do much with the files but...... eh hem....ive done this on my computer once with an old file that sonic stage refused to play because it did not originate on the computer i put the music file through marcs himdrenderer program, and made the file into a free format i dont know if i was lucky or if it works on ever file but itts worth a shot unless your computer cant recognize the file at all ....good luck....i know it realllllyyyyyy sux ive been there before
  3. haha i havnt used the 5 way control in forever anyways, i prefer the remote much better....------------------the play and pause button ARE the same on the remote ...lol
  4. well i dont have much expeiriance with the md data drives but it is to my understanding that they did not work like regular drives....i.e. you would need to encode the FILE itself to write the file to md and it would not even show up as a nether drive...it would use a pregram to use the drive. CORRECT?? idk much but....if so then it would be like trying to open a netmd formated disc inn a himd player in exploror it would not do anything with the files but since this is a different disc almost....im sure that chris is right in saying the player would not understand what was going on. or maybe even reformat the exoensive disc to the new format and thus causing a waste of money on that data disc but again the data drives came and went so fast that i never got any infor on it so.....
  5. yes ive had to do that a couple times with music ive downloaded....SS would not record it to my player, it would just play it back on my computer...so i decided to burn the track to a cd and use simple burner to put it on my player GOD I WISH SONY WOULD LET GO OF THE DRM.... but HAHA like that will ever happen...!!!
  6. well not exactly .....there are files on the disc that you can see and open the folder that the atrac files are on but if you drag them off the drive i dont believe it would do much more then screw up your disc and make the file that you draged off ussless....and its not like there is one file per song wither....it is a confusing setup but yes you could drag off the data but nothing couldbe doone with it even if you were to drag an oma file onto the drive without any music on it the player wouldnt play it its only tranferable through sonicstage
  7. Well if you mean uploading computer data files then thats completely possible but music in atrac format on the machine can not be uploaded
  8. well it wasnt in the list of updates its been possible since 2.0...i didnt reelize this either untill a month or so ago... but yes it is possible although i am curious why you cant rip this directly through Simple Burner since its a near direct rip it would seem resonable to have a choice to rip in cd quality right from a CD but i guess that the top of the line sony software developers are too good to think of a way to do that...
  9. i dont know about the 800 too muc but isnt that button also the enter button... that would make that little button do three functions enter play and pause.....this could be possible but a little bit difficult to pause while navigating through this and whatnot i dont know but it could be something along those lines
  10. Yeah thats a better one ...lol
  11. i would think mp3 to be such a freedomed format that sony cant put too much in the way of drm on it but as for atrac and mp3 on one device i think that mrgreen was on track with having the player play mp3s downloaded from pc to md but anything recorded analog be in drmed atrac3(+) format maybe sony will be able to compromise that way....
  12. whoah that a completely different situation DVD And cd play different formats most cd player dont even have a screen...but there may be one out there.... dvd plays back video and i believe that they are starting to use the technology to make bigger capacity cds but i may be wrong
  13. i also use the 33el which is a wonderful remote for most the lower end models but does not support recording function or menue function beyond sound and pmode
  14. GRR....so close yet so far if they are in canada to stay i hope they at least reach the border states cause i really would like to be able to go to my local electronics store and purchase a himd disc without ordering online and waiting for them
  15. i heard that it works with all i-md units but you might as wellget the 33el remote unless three lines are vital cause what they mean by the listed models probly means that recording function and things like that are only supported on the remote when its plugged into the player im not even sure if all three lines are used when you use it with an earlier model......
  16. Wait a minute are you saying sony purposley made it so HIMDrenderer cant work with sonic stage anymore so if you upgraded to 2.2 himdrenderer is usless !!!!!!! please tell me that is not true
  17. i had that problem too but i learned to check it more often but now my problem is that when im riding my bike sometimes the pmode button get hit and my music stops after one song and i cant put the old switch on because sometimes i skip a song so its really quite annoying when my player just Stops....and i have to restart thae player and all that
  18. if you do a recording through the analog source then upload it you can use the software created by marcnet to make it a wav file and no longer concern yourself with any restrictions....marc is making his software better and better everyday...
  19. mds write slower than cds umm....my songs go to my recorder faster than any cd burner ive had the conversion not being counted but all my songs are already in the bit rate i use so i dont really have to worry about conversion....but still i am also taliking hi-lp and cd is uncompressed so i dont know the comparison of pcm and cd writing if thats the comparison your makin........
  20. umm....well, let me try and sort this out first off i really feel like im the only one in the world of people using SS2.1 that has yet to see it crash or come close to crashing once.... now...the hi-md players all use AA bateries except for the nh1 i believe... i think sony left out the inbetween bit rates because of the ability to use the old bitrates of 132 105 and 66 but there are some that could still be added, there are no ways that i know of to get any other bitrates... and as for the drm stuff...you can copy any track any number of times to any player but this didnt happen untill the release of ss2.0 this was not possible, if you were to put the disc you recorded in himd format into another himd player it would play just as good BUT not if you put the himd format disc in a non himd player I.E. netMD it would not play at all you can keep yer mp3s in ss and covert them when you put them on the player if you wish but the lower bitrate you transfer in the longer it takes to convert
  21. yes the backup tool takes up extra space actualy because it saves the backup tool saves an mp3 version of you music and an oma file to the space you specify so thats a full 1 meg per minute mp3 saved and about half that space in oma version cpmpressed so watch out when you are managing space for the tool
  22. well i dont have a problem with the speed it goes a lot faster if you transfer one file at a time inseat of all of them...if that makes anysense ....this meathod wont work for singular large files...
  23. yes and the software is free at www.connect.com so you can download it there pretty quick if you have highspeed internet alothough if you are running dial up i hear it coud be up to ten houres so....watch out if you wanna download it on dial up as for everything else you asked i think someone with more time should answere them cause i dont have enough to go into detail but i can do a few short answeres md is not supported on linux as far as i know as anything more then a storage device for computer data the 600d model is an okay model but it is still just a downloader, i would suggest it for a test device but dont think of it as the full extent of himd because there is so much more the various bit rates for the atrac format are somewhat comfusing...when you make a conversion you have another copy of the music file in a smaller file than the origonal mp3...i never tell a difference between a 128 bit mp3 and 64 bit atrac files (i guess my ears are weak) and rarely i can afford a 48 k file hear and there.... as for new models comming out by december or january i highly doubt it but you never know what sony will do i would guess new models around mid june of next year as to give sony enough time to comsult on how himd is doing in the market and for space on the hi md disc in 256 k atrac is about 7 houres 64 k is around 30-34 or so i believe and 48 is the 45 houre advertised limit then you can still burn in an sp bitrate lp2 bitrate and lp4 bitrate using atrac3 format on the himd disc those will give you about 15-17 or so houres in sp bitrate and lp2 will give you about 20+ houres or so (im not too sure because i dont use lp2 at all) and lp4 will give about 32 houres (although hi lp is better than lp4 by far) these are not totaly acurate so dont rely on me and just because you burn in sp lp2 or hilp bitrates on a himd formated disc does not mean it will play in older devices unless an 60-74-80 minute disc is burnt in these bitrates in the regular MD format....
  24. you may need to get it out of ss using marcnets softare or a realtime meathod (whatever your comfortable with) and amplify it using software like audacity or whatever you choose and then reburn it via SS2.1 but someone else might know a better way....
  25. okay if sony does do this a big reason could be that people feel more comfortable seeing a format that is as popular as mp3 what looks better to you when your lookin at porable player A Sony Atrac3 3+ player oh a Sony Mp3 player people would look at that and say wth is atrac and then go well i know what mp3 is so ill get that sony is slowley losing costomers to the formats that they understand....
