  1. I think that Nero can do the same thing, all by itself. The conversion, preparation, and the image mounting.
  2. ^^^ Erm. Aren't PCM and CD Audio the exact same thing?
  3. Go into the transfer options, and uncheck the "Transfer as-is" box. Then specify which bitrate you want your files to be converted to. But honestly, I don't see why you want to transcode from lossy mp3 to lossy 132 Kbps ATRAC. (YUCK). Your music will sound terrible.
  4. I think that one was only used for data. Meaning, you can't make music recordings with it, and it wouldn't take regular MDs. I think the girl in "The Art of War" with Snipes uses it. Oddly enough, she's using a red Memorex music disc.
  5. Or convert to Wav and import that one.
  6. You do not need SonicStage to use the PC link. The PC link is like an external sound card, with Toslink out, which you use to record your music real time. Just open your favorite music player, load a playlist, get your MD to record, and let it rip.
  7. The solution is even easier than you think. Just upload from Hi-MD, and use Hi-MD Renderer to convert the file to WAV, OGG, FLAC, or MP3. Burn and send away.
  8. Oh man. All of that sounds so strange. Let me see if I can help... The USB +SS + Hi-MD will work only on windows to download the already-existing file from the computer, to the Hi-MD, like A440 just mentioned. SonicStage will not record. It's not capture software. The Hi-MD will not record through the USB cord. In other words, there's not a single bit of data being sent to the recorder the way you set it up. It would be nice if it worked that way, but unfortunately it wasn't set like that. If you can get any audio out of the Mac through the optical cable, the Hi-MD should be able to record it. My guess is that somehow the optical out has not been enabled in Mac OSX, or there's some sort of incompatibility. Try connecting it to a Dolby Digital receiver, and see if theres any audio at all. (Edit: Sorry, A440, hadn't noticed you addressed that already) M3U or DMG or whatever it was that file, are not actual music recordings. It's just a simple beacon that points a player (Real in this case) to a server where they can stream that music or sound program. Try enabling your optical out, or use the capture software that A440 mentioned. Good luck.
  9. We do say that at my place of employment, HOWEVER, we then proceed to rectify the situation. So far, there's only been two calls I can't handle and correct. It's only the snobby, silver-spoon-fed, never-known-what-it-is-to-bust-your- back-so-you-can- put-bread-on-the-table, whiny, bitchy customers the ones who don't let us fix their problems.
  10. Taking into consideration that pulling teeth and getting Sony to make its software partially compatible with the Mac require the same effort, I'd say it's very, very unlikely this will happen.
  11. Hope not too sound too ranty. I got myself a couple of ER-4P for my birthday. Hard to get used to them, since these things go inside of your ear. I try them the first day, and I loved them. Very nice bass response (If a bit less than the Sony MDR EX 71, but I believe this is because the sound from the Ety's is the true representation of the waveform, without any coloration like the one caused by other phones). It's wonderful to discover matissations/matices/shades/ tones in your music that you had never heard before... while riding the bus! Yes sir. These babies do block external noise. It's a bit tricky to get a perfect seal, however, when you do, only really loud people (Like the crazy chatty girl who's miffed at her boyfriend for cheating on her, while on the cell phone, or the Taz-voiced retiree telling of his adventures in the war of Tang-aman-dapio) will get through. This time, it's your music the one that drowns out the external sounds, and not the other way around. Loud diesel engine, meet acoustic isolation foam. However... The horror. The problem that plagued my EX-71's is back, just in reverse order. You see, there was something about those Sony's that made the right earbud sound a bit muffled. The bass was there, but it just didn't feel that punchy. After several tests using mono versions of music I know very well, , and switching the phones (right piece on the left ear and so with the other) I came to the conclusion that either the left one was too powerful, or the right one was crippled. I'm experiencing this with the Etymotics too. However, it's the left one this time the one that lacks the deep, "moist" and punchy bass. And yes, I switched pieces. I was thinking it could be that the my left ear canal is a bit narrower than the right one, but no. The bass comes better on the right piece, period. The difference is not as bad as with the EX-71's, but it IS there. I hope I can make good use of the warranty, and that Etymotic can provide me with a replacement. Unless you get a pair with the same problem as mine, the ER-4P are highly recommended. And yes, they leave Noise cancellation systems in the dust. Now if someone could combine them both. (Yes, the earwax filters are clean. I just replaced them. ) Long Live True-SP ATRAC Type R, Syrius.
  12. ^^ Agreed. Google for JetAudio. It's a superb, non-bloatware jukebox that can encode to and from pretty much any format in the market, with the exception of MP3, but that's only a limitation of the free version. As long as you have WMP9 installed, you should be able to convert from FLAC to WMA-L without having to turn into Wav.
  13. BUT, you can overcome it by tweaking the equalizer.
  14. The thing is that SS 3.2 would let you restore those songs to your system (correct me if I'm wrong, guys) if you had transferred them over to your MD's with SS 3.2. Of course, this was not possible because it wasn't out back then. Sorry, it seems that either real time recording or re-importing are your only options. I know. It sucks. If it serves any consolation, you won't have that problem in the future if you use SS 3.2 from now on. Please correct me, mods. Will you be able to upload a track to another computer, if it was originally transferred to that MD using SS 3.2, and without DRM?
  15. I wonder if you can upload PCM recordings made on another Hi-MD unit, but using the Mac-compatible recorders.
  16. Homeless people who don't say "Thank you" after you give them a dollar for a burger also get on my only nerve left.
  17. It depends on what you want to do. If you want to backup your WMA's, MP3's and other non-DRM music you can do it normally on DVD or CD as you already know. If we're talking about ATRAC/OMA files, Sony now allows you to rip and convert to OMA without DRM, so simple drag, drop, or burn will let you transfer that file to any computer without getting the "This comes from another computer." message. Just get SonicStage 3.2 But as of your files already on your discs, trying to upload them will delete them from the disc. So unfortunately, real time recording is the only option. Sony integrated the backup tool, however, they forgot to think that crashes are unpredictable, and I'm not sure if you could back up your files and save them to CD/DVD without erasing your library already. If you still have the original Mp3/Wav/whatever, it's just a matter of reimporting them. Good luck. PS: If at the end you decide MD is not for you, and want to get rid of them, try also posting them on the trading forum. Some people here are looking for units, and you can save yourself the Ebay fees. (I don't mean this as a taunt. Just a simple suggestion.) Hope it doesn't have to come to this, because believe me that Sony has really gotten their act together with SS 3.2
  18. I normally try not to rant, but I need to get this off my chest: I can't stand normal, full grown adults who have to depend on others for the most simple stuff. Example? I work at Customer service call center for a major retailer, on their credit division. Call comes in... "Hi, this is Syrius, how can I help you?" "Hi, I'm Mr. X, and I have this and this problem with my account." "Ok. Mr. X. Can I have your account number please?" "One second. Let me ask my wife. Honey? Where's the card?" *2 minutes later* "Ok here's the number." "Can I have the last four of your social to access your account?" "Hold on, let me ask my wife. Honey, where is my wallet?" *2 minutes* "Ok, the last four numbers are 9999" "Good. Now what can I do for your account?" "Hold on. Let me put my wife on the phone, she's the one who handles all our finances." And it's not like the guy is impaired, or senile. Gosh effing darnit, people! The human being's total dependency period on his mother is only 1 year. Do these kind of people get married because they need someone to take care of them like little babies? My brother's like that, sometimes. "Honey, where's my wallet? Honey, where are my keys? Honey, where is my laptop? Honey, where is my independence?" Sure. Needing help with something is one thing, but when someone else has to basically run your life, when you are a perfectly healthy and normal person, you know you have problems. Sheesh.
  19. If your music is already in OMG format in SS, do the re-conversion trick using SS 3.2, and make sure the DRM is removed in the options. Then you can back up your OMA files on regular DVD and restore them anywhere.
  20. Look at the bright side: While the masses will be paying for and downloading lossy DRM'd compressed files, we'll be recording and uploading PCM files as many times as we want, without DRM. To be honest, I never liked the idea of following trends. (Any guess why my avatar is a cartoon german shepherd? lol)So everyone and their grandma has got an Ipod. Big deal. Gimme my Minidisc or gimme death.
  21. Just make sure you keep a backup of the original files in case SS hiccups and corrupts those files, though it's really hard that it happens now that it's much more stable.
  22. ^^^ No. He never said legal or not. Just where.
