sounds like the USB adaptor in the MD unit is loose or buggered. try shinning a flashlight in a seeing if you can see anything. also try some compressed air and clear out all the dust i dont see this as a software error personally

see truely ignorance is bliss

Do You Like The New Default Skin?
ROMBUSTERS replied to Christopher's topic in Comments + Suggestions
BOO to this new number letter font thingy. i literally spent time actually finding a link, time i have been building up while being able to surf the forums with my eyes closed not a few hours ago it looks fancy but i dont think its good for functionality -
i was reading the FAQ on the main site for MD and it said that as the laser passed through a changed magnetic field it is altered and upon reflection reads back different information. Also food for thought: would a blu laser due to its smaller wavelength even be affected by a magnetic flux as a larger red laser? enough to read? who knows

it doesnt happen under 'normal' circumstances however people have done tests with very large magnets over the disc surface itself (i.e. opening the plastic hatch and it can corrupt the data. you shouldnt worry though, right now i have about 7 MDs sitting on top of my computer case, directly above my HDD lol -
no problem at least its clarified now
-
it is but the way its written (and the distance its written from in relation to the laser) would make it a engineering maricle if they could pull it off. In order to take advantage of Blu-rays higher density the data would need to be stored closer to the disc surface blah blah blah, do some research on blu-ray http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray and it'll explain more. basicaly they would need to include an extra optical head *just* for the parts of the disc that were in blu-ray mode. not practicle at all

just for simple listening to music and not being to desperate for features the 600 is for you. Actually, correct me if im wrong, but does the 600D have the opt in or does the 600? im so confused. anyways this is the entry level HiMD player and thus doesnt have all of the features and compared to the other units isnt the best looking/feeling HOWEVER with that said, the playback abilities of this unit are on par with the others and is probably perfect for your reasonds. its runs on AAs and all HiMD units have a memory buffer that should enabled unlimited antishock (i have owned two MD units over the past 3 years and i have never heard a MD skip) so all in all for a smaller budget and a person who wants to enjoy HiMD but only listen to music this is probably your best bet

yes supposidly its upwards of 2GB so 2 might not even be the maximum. but who knows 1GB could be the maximum and we could be holding on to threads of idiocy

not necessarily -MDs in generall have no physical limitations (i.e. they are encased within a shell and cannot be scratched) -CD/DVD/HDVD/Blu-Ray can easily be scratched -CD/DVD/HDVD/Blu-Ray (as long as they do not suffer from disc rot) will keep information for an undetermined time -MDs will gradually degrade after a while, also they are very suceptible to magnetic fields from close by magnets, etc. -Both get errored sectors that are automatically skipped. i'd say the error reat on both is about the same -
its 100x transfer from PC -- MD meaning it can transfer a 48kbps song at 100x real time (in ideal settings). This equates to approx 48*100 = 4,800kbps or about 600KB/s or about 0.6MB per second correct However this doesnt take into account seek time or TOC writing time which adds to it. People have had horror stories of writing full HiMD discs and that taking about 40+min
-
its impossible to have both MO and Blu-ray compatibilities at once in a MD unit. Well not *impossible* but more than likely never will happen. -MDs use Red Laser, Blu-ray uses blue (the only way the big blu-ray players are backwards compatible is because they contain a second laser). -MO reads information by changes in magnetic fields, blu-ray reads pits and lands -Blu-ray is really friggin expensive -Blu-ray isnt even released in home theaters in NA yet. -basically cost and size is a huge limiter
-
personally i cannot justify spending money on 1GB discs just to use PCM. I mean sure the quality is astounding but come on! Here in Canada they cost about $9-12 each disc where a CD costs hmmm maybe 67cents. Plus you store litterally 6-8x more music stepping down just to Atrac3+ HiSP
-
useless on netMD ok gotcha thanx all
-
yes in HiMD is makes a huge difference but i am talking about netMD/LP here
-
no of course not... its just something i randomly made up
-
referring to the manual, the HiMD disc requires at least 2MB of free space for error correction and TOC data. Also a 1GB formatted partition is never actually 1GB it is slightly less. Adding these two factors together, along with the fact that we theorize the data is mounted as a 'virtual' drive. is probably why there is some descrepency. also the manual mentions different sizes appearing because of the different nature of binary verses decimal

I have placed XviD movies on a HiMD disc for playback while at school and it works like a charm (after it finally copies to it that is)
-
hmm ive been reading conflicting accounts all over the net. some say SS ups it up to 132 for transfer because a netMD cannot recognize it. other say it just wraps the 105 file in a 132 modifer in order to preserve native playback on netMDs anyone else know? im not home so i cant test anything at the moment
-
i normally like games but im starting to hate the waiting one but lets play a bit more what could be more user friendly than having to transcode everything to Atrac and being slapped in the fase with DRM?

but once again with each new generation and density increase the write speeds have gotten faster and faster. Obviously they will never reach those of CD/DVD bruners but just try comparing them to floppys and think about how share a generally underlying technology of magnetic data storage. MD has advanced... a lot and it can only get better! -
they didnt come with netMD drives, they came with MDData drives, a different technology. Anyways I completely agree with the inclusion of HiMD in future computer drives. it'd be a great way to fix MD into the market place. Here's an idea Sony. bite the bullet and install HiMD drives into your future PC and Laptops. Pay some cash now for a boat load later. When North American finally realises what an MD is a lot of people will be hooked

'next higher density' eh? i like wut i hear

Is there any difference in time between 132kbps and 105kbps using a standard netMD and a minidisc? File size wise i realise there is a difference between the two, however i was wondering because 105 is a non-standard netMD rate, will the recorder treat it as 132 or will I actually be able to store more when recroding in 105?
