I was looking at the HiMD FAQ recently (the one linked to from the main page http://www.minidisc.org/hi-md_faq.html ) and noticed an error. It has a table listing the various amounts of recording times (based on codec) and then how they can be recorded (i.e. via PC -- MD or MD itself). Under PC--MD it states that PCM/WAV cannot be transferred from PC to MD which is wrong

A HiMD 1GB comes formatted HiMD Mode because it cannot be used on older MD equiptment However you can use older MDs on HiMD machines so you are given a choice between formatting it in MD Mode (can be played on old MD machines) or HiMD mode (doubles space but can only be played on HiMD machines) Do do this to an older MD you can either use SonicStage while the MD is inserted in the recorder and the recorder is connected to the computer or on the recorder itself. On the recorder go to Edit > Format (if format is not present then go to Options > DiscMode > select HiMD, then go to Edit > Erase > Erase All The disc will now be formatted in HiMD mode

does anyone with an MP3 compatible device know approx. how long it takes to wrap the MP3s in DRM on transfer?

MD80 refers to a standard 80min MD disc formatted in HiMD mode HiMD refers to a HiMD 1GB disc #* = my personal opinion of sound quality PCM/WAV 1411kbps (CD Quality) ***** (5 BEST obviously) >MD80: 28min (about half a CD) >HiMD: 1 hrs. 34 min (one and a half CDs) Atrac3+ 256kbps (HiSP) **** 1/2 (4.5 So close its hard to tell it apart from the actual CD) >MD80: 2 hrs. 20 min (2 1/2 CDs) >HiMD: 7 hrs. 55 min (about 8 CDs) Atrac3 132kbps (LP2) **** (4 The best middle ground, sounds like a decent MP3) >MD80: 4 hrs. 50 min (about 5CDs) >HiMD: 16 hrs. 30 min (about 16 1/2 CDs) Atrac3 105kbps (LP3?) *** 1/2 (3.5 Not much different than 132kbps) >MD80: 6 hrs. 10 min (about 6 CDs) >HiMD: 20 hrs. 50 min (about 21 CDs) Atrac3 66kbps (LP4) ** (1.5 The second worst compression available) >MD80: 9 hrs. 50 min (about 10 CDs) >HiMD: 32 hrs. 50 min (about 33 CDs) Atrac3+ 64kbps (HiLP) ** 1/2 (2.5 Surprisingly good at a very low bit rate) >MD80: 10 hrs. 10 min (about 10 CDs) >HiMD: 34 hrs. 00 min (about 34 CDs) Atrac3+ 48kbps * (1 WORST, not recomended for music) >MD80: 13 hrs. 30 min (about 13 1/2 CDs) >HiMD: 48 hrs. (about 48 CDs) Seeing as you stated you are not a person who can distinguish the small differences in sound quality I would recomend either Atrac3 132/105kbps or Atrac3+ 64kbps for you to maximize disc space vs quality. But the best way is to experiment yourself

Cannot Burn Natasha Beddingfield Cd With Md Simple Burner
ROMBUSTERS replied to ffs's topic in Software
do a google search, depending on the CD (happened to me for Velvet Revolver) you may have to disable a driver or sevice that gets started on disc insert that prevents you from accessing the disc. -
yes. through Simple Burner you click Config and then disc type or something, sleect HiMD and click Format
-
ahahaha youve got to be kidding me sony oh god... why is it sooooo long
-
that sucks, hopefully you get a few more places selling them and some competition going on
-
ive actually never had it crash on me or kill anything of mine and i find it a very easy to use enjoyable experience HOWEVER I am annoyed by the lack of certain obvious features. The most annoying one i have is the fact that you cant store multiple Atrac versions of the same song and then choose which one you would like to use at transfer time
-
i bought my V300 last February and have absolutely NO problems whatsoever. couldn't be happier. Great reception, good features and it can still compete a year later with about 6 new generations of phones out on the market http://www.motorola.ca/experience/V300/CA/en-ca/

depends, if you can only playback the songs on a PSP then no u wont do anything against Apple. However used correctly Sony could muscle they're way in to a good market
-
heh awesome, now tell them we want mp3, and drag and drop, and....

heh glad you enjoy the MD LOVIN, welcome to the forums
-
well the 3 1/2 inch floppy-esque MO discs have exceeded 2GB and more. Keep in mind Minidisc's have less surface area though
-
i cant tell by any internet pictures that im finding however if your Stop button has the words Cancel/CHG or anything that resembles Charge then i assume it does
-
is it going to be placed back in this forum or just in a main spot. you should add a file forum or something
-
if theres complex music and perfect sound quality then 64kbps is the way to go however if it is just radio quality then using 64 or 48 is a waste of space (and battery power) as 48 will probably be good enough
-
yes but its quite large and you shouldnt have a problem. i think (although im just making up numbers here) thats it somewhere around 10,000 characters

Latest Sonicstage Without Web Shop - Offline Version
ROMBUSTERS replied to thomasraden's topic in Software
still a resource whore but i guess u can only expect soooo much -
i believe, but i may be wrong, that MD2 (MD Data) discs are not compatable with HiMD. as long as your linux system supports native USB mass storage drives then it should work
-
"and not what we have now" now it does

glad you came to the forum along with your love for MD! Before you do anything remove any previously installed MD software (if u have any- including OpenMG, SonicStage, Simpleburner) using the methods found in the FAQ. Then go to www.connect.com and download SS2.2 (i havnt even touched the SS2.1 that came with my HiMD), once installed do a search on the sony site (or sony.net one of them) and look for SonicStage Upgrade 2.3 (or search this forum for the full downloaded installer for 2.3) Next jump over to http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=7812&st=15 and download SimpleBurner 2.0 so u have all the features (EDIT: woops it looks like it was taken down for some reason, ask around the forum to see if anyone still has a copy of it for you) nothing announced yet once again welcome aboard

There seems to be a *lot* of alternate names for SonicStage floating around on this forum, mainly due to user disgust or appearance but every once in a while you come across a really good and downright hilarious one! Contest Rules: -post only one alternative name (pick your best) -post your reasons for using this name (i.e. personal experience, etc) -if you did not create the name, please give credit to whomeever u think created it (or UNKNOWN if u dont) -you may comment on others names PRIZE!!!!11111!!!111 -A pat on the back and a hardy job well done! (wut u think im made of money? pfft)
