  1. maybe the recorder shuts off the trackmark ever 2seconds of silence feature if there is a user predefined timeline for trackmarks
  2. heres an odd thing to throw into the mix: don't all Atrac encoders work by first converting the audio stream into PCM and then working from there?
  3. you cannot transfer recordings made on non-HiMD discs to the computer digitally. That is unless the old MD is formatted in HiMD mode. For netMD discs the only way to transfer the audio to your PC would be via an analogue connection between your MDs headphone jack and your PC line in jack
  4. ive never heard of this problem before. has anything changed in ur PC setup since you installed 3.0? how about the USB cable, not faulty? does the audio work?

    3rd Gen

is it not already? at least in Mass storage mode? and therefore you complaint is against the software not the HARDWARE - which this topic is referring to
  6. thats a tough one, SS3.0 is usually regarded as surpassing the hardwares encoding abilities and thus without having to worry about recording volumes, etc. I would probably go with SS on this one.

    3rd Gen

agreed steal something simple from Apple for once Sony!
  8. it might have language barriers purposly in place
  9. ok so he's got some credentials lol hopefully he does a good job
  10. hey that know it might get them a sale here and there so why not say things like that? Welcome to the world of Capitalism, god bless America and the like

    3rd Gen

Now that we've seen what Sony has to offer for HiMD in the 1st and 2nd gen units what would you like to see in terms of HARDWARE (i.e. not discs) for 3rd gen MD units? One thing i'd like to see (just to kick it off with something rather unspectacular ) is standard backlighting on all units
  12. any way for the label maker to be hosted on this forum?
  13. actually Atrac is a 24bit audio system whereas PCM is a 16bit. Although Atrac is lossy it can actually (at times) sound better when recording from a live source. Although this is always personal opinion
  14. you have to reformat it via the unit itself or SonicStage
  15. if im recording line in then i'll only use PCM or HiSP (probably more HiSP than PCM just for space) For playback I'd either use LP2 most often, some HiSP but not much seeing as you loose a huge amount of space moving up to it from LP2, and even sometimes HiLP just because depending on where I am and what I'm doing (i.e. on the bus) I cannot tell the difference
  16. Atrac3+ is a more advanced codec then Atrac3, it uses a different compression system and bit for bit sounds better than Atrac3. However because there are no close bit rate modes (besides 64kbps and LP4) you cannot get a good comparison. For the record Atrac3+ @ 64kbps sounds much much much better than Atrac3 LP4 @ 66kbps
  17. speaking of which wheres Atrac3+ VBR?
  18. he might have meant that it doesnt compress as well as others. They all do the same job but some do it more efficiently then others
  19. or use Simple Burner 2 (depending on the sub version count, you can transfer from PCM/WAV to HiMD without saving the tracks first on your PC
  20. haha ya but itsnt that the general consensus?
  21. ya ive tried this and it works perfectly. However i dont keep my files in WML (i use HiSP like you, because id prefer not to have to rencode again). but i thought about this after i ripped them (although WML does take quote a bit more HDD space then HiSP does)
  22. lol ya, didnt we know something like this was going to happen a while ago? confirmation is good though, nice find
  23. First off there is no way to use lossless compression on a HiMD device at current time. PCM is your only option for true uncompressed sound. However I had an idea the other day. Especially with the advent of SonicStage 3.0 and the ability to transcode a file several times this occured to me. Instead of ripping your CDs in Atrac3+ HiSP 256kbps highest bit rate mode and then transcoding into a lower one (if that is how you wish to do this) later (without requiring the CD again) why not go from lossless to whatever you wish to convert? Open up Windows Media Player 9 or 10 and rip your CDs in Windows Media Lossless. Then import them into SonicStage. It can handle it. From there when you go to transfer your songs choose your bit rate and let it convert it on the fly (only has to be done once if you keep the delete converted files afterwards box unchecked). That way you can get the very best sound quality possible without having to go back to the source CD. My 2 cents
  24. what a pointless versus lol but ya people are very misinformed about HiMD at the current time
  25. easy... if its physically possible
