  1. wrong assumption again (second time ive had to correct people nothing personal) the data on an MD is scattered all accross the area of the disc. In this way even if you played the disc in normal mode it would have to seek back and forth to read bits and pieces of data into the buffer. The player then playsback from the buffer. So even it it was on shuffle, thats only changing where its looking for the bits, nothing more.
  2. when you place a standard blank 60/74/80min MD into a HiMD it will be formated in the disc mode that the HiMD is set to (default HiMD). HiMD and MD are incompatible formats but both can be played on a HiMD unit
  3. check your 'Format/BitRate' options at the bottom of the transfer screen. LP2 (Atrac 3 - 132/105kbps) or LP4 (Atrac3 66kbps) gives you a lot more time then the standard (and fake your SS) MDSP (which will give you the 74min only)
  4. the wait is nothing really and only happens if a new disc is placed into the MD unit. Ive even gone through battery recharges and not had to wait for the disc to be re-initialized.
  5. well if that screenshot is the version your running, your clearly not running the newest version. try uninstalling all of your SonicStage/OpenMG/Simple Burner software following the instructions on this site (do a search). then go to connect.com and download SonicStage 2.2 then do a search to find the updater for 2.3 alternatively you could do a search on this site for the full installer for 2.3
  6. which can be answered by the manual or the FAQ on this forum however if you do come accross a very difficult question that you cant solve in 15min feel free to post
  7. which bitrate are you playing back at? > lower the bit rate, the more stored in the buffer, the longer the anti-skip hows your battery holding up? > having a low batter was the only time ive ever heard an MD skip in my life (and that was on my old N505)
  8. probably but not recomended and not covered by warrenty (read the manual)
  9. although unless your super professional its probably not worth your money... unless of course you won the lottery.... in which case u owe me money
  10. must have missed that one cuz i actually laughed reading it just now (im a very evil person you see ) Agreed, i think they just need more communication with each other AND the consumer
  11. are you referring to the AA battery pack or the internal battery? I believe (please correct me if im wrong) that the internal rechargable batter is a LiIon and in which case does not like to be completely discharged. Try charging it a couple of times when its about 20-40% battery full and see if it makes a difference. On a NiMH battery however this will lead to eventual battery memory and reduced lifespan. Check out www.batteryuniversity.com
  12. or if there is its very minimal also why Sony doesn't let you nativly use MDSP or at the very least MDLP on a HiMD formatted disc is beyond me. Especially with SonicStage the way it is
  13. any recharchable battery that comes with a unit will need to be discharged/recharged a couple of times in order to loose its memory before it can achive its maximum potential
  14. id also be interested in this if someone could give more info about transfering files from an SD memory card (i.e. for a digital camera). It is also a concern of mine if it overwrites files because they are named the same that defeates the purpose
  15. you'll probably have to do a complete uninstall and reinstall following the directions posted on this forum (do a search)
  16. please do not double post in the future
  17. right but i think one thing your missing, if i remember what i read about MP3 correctly, is that your saying MP3 was released in '92 when i think ive read that was more or less MP2 (which started some internet trading but nothing major) until it was used (and abused) until it became MP3, later on in life of course. Oddly enough MP3 was only designed to reach close to MP2 at 196~256kbps at 128kbps. In reality (just like Atrac SP) MP1 is the best quality (although it runs at something like ~340kbps)
  18. you just contradicted yourself with your first dates there. Sony MDs came out in what '91/92? and they have always employed Atrac obviously. Therefore how can "mp2 [PASC] and mp3 were in development as early as 1997, making their history pretty much concurrent if not slightly ahead of ATRAC's." That would almost imply it was in use before Atrac, which was not true. Just to clarify. Also taken from Wikipedia "ATRAC (Adaptive TRansform Acoustic Coding) is an audio compression algorithm used to store information on Minidiscs and other Sony-branded audio players. First developed by Sony in 1991; the higher compression flavors of ATRAC3 and ATRAC3plus followed in 2000 and 2003, respectively." not to start a flame or anything just wanted things to be clear, as im sure you know loads more MD info then I
  19. id just like to point out that as long as you dont manually change the songs and let the recorder do its own thing and buffer as it goes there should be no higher or lower battery strain no matter what mode you are in. What was aluded to was that shuffle play takes more power. Incorrect as no matter which song is playing, bits and pieces are scatter all over the disc for the laser to seek to anyways.
  20. the model number is what is important. if it says MZ-NH900 HiMD then it is the same unit no matter where you buy it (aside from the volume limiter in some devices)
  21. id recommend completely wiping your system free of any Sony software (i.e. OpenMG, SonicStage, Simple Burner - using the info in the FAQ) and then install SS fresh
  22. you could also get the most recent version of SonicStage from connect.com (actually that only offers 2.2) however once you have 2.2 do a search on the Sony website for the SonicStage update and then you can get 2.3 or do a search in this forum and get the full installer
  23. we get more and more users asking for this file every day. Sony should just offer it in one package in a straightforward manner and be done with it
  24. first of netMD 'simple transfer' doesnt exist to my knowledge secondly you may have to unistall all of Sony's MD software and start fresh, i.e. SonicStage/OpenMG and Simple Burner
