  1. and and it cant take *that* much power to power the displays anyways. examples: a) your watch examples, they last forever the NH1 remote has backlight powered by the unit
  2. i currently have the 700 and its great the sound engine and FM tuner you pay extra for arent worth it in my opinion. Especially the FM tuner, its in the remote cord so you have to hold it in awkward positions to get better signal, etc
  3. possible. weren't people finding lists of the available codecs through service mode and all but one or 2 were turned on?
  4. yes i have been on the line with many very good tech support people some however (on the phone for 2 hours straight, on hold about 2/3 of that time) aren't as good has anyone else tried calling to see if they can get any leads?
  5. please post your system specs
  6. make sure you grab Simple Burner 2 (do a search in this forum for it) also under the SonicStage options there is an Optimization button (under advanced i think). This cleans up any empty or unused items left from previous SonicStage imports, operations, etc. see if that makes any difference
  7. when the program hangs see if it tells you which mp3 is causing the problem then try and encode that same mp3 via sonicstage (not the mass converter) if this doesnt work there is a very simple way to get around it. find a freeware program that converts MP3s to WAV files, convert some (not all unless u have a ginormous HDD) to wav files and then convert them in SS. this should work flawlessly
  8. heh the worst thing you could probably do is look for bad compression in a song, then everytime its played you'll think about nothing but that it keeps me awake at night :S

    Hi-md And Mac

here's a question for those MD users with a mac ive heard its not 100% reliable to use the HiMD as a storage drive on a mac however does it become more reliable if you format the drive to FAT or FAT32 via Windows Explorer? In this way the disc is formatted strictly FAT and not Sony HiMD/FAT hybrid. Any difference?
  10. nice hopes this comes true and its just some tech support jerk who doesnt know anything (not implying all TS people are jerks who know nothing)
  11. yes and no was the CD by chance copy-protected or did it have enhanced CD qualities (i.e. was there extra band art, videos, media, programs on the disc?) ive had this happen in the second case where the disc was constantly being accessed trying to load a program to play the bands enhanced cd media try making sure nothing is loading and your cd isn't spinning before starting SB see if that makes any difference
  12. im curious if it actually worked. please reply with an update
  13. im here a couple minutes at a time, at school, before bed whenever the urge arises
  14. i've personally never had it crash on me, and it works so its all good i guess
  15. this used to happen to me way back with the N505 but it dissapeared shortly before i got my HiMD (go figure)
  16. update to Windows XP SP2 and update to SonicStage 2.3 from connect.com
  17. i have also been wondering about this apparent lack of thought on Sonys part (big surprise there). However i do not think it is possible hopefully someone will tell me otherwise though
  18. LP4 sounds very bad, although i say that after i bought a HiMD unit and actually had enough disc space to care...
  19. exact same thing for me, the things a tank i think Sony makes good products (even while cutting corners) so only time will tell about the HiMD units
  20. try using a rubber band (temp) to hold it closed and see if that makes a difference
  21. actually 1x speed for a CD-ROM is 150kbps so at 56x150 = 8400kbps ~~ 8.4MB/s
  22. hmm your second problem sounds like the detector that senses if the lid is closed may be acting up, or your batteries are very low the first one, again the batteries could be the culprit, or it could be the laser head. try getting a cleaning disc or try playback from a different disc and see if it makes a difference
  23. Raw source > Atrac sounds better MP3 > Atrac = oh god my ears are bleeding!
  24. i just bought 4 1800mAh batteries from Radio Shack the other day for something like $28CND, i wonder which is the better deal (im not good with curency exchanges).
